Aston Villa today announced that manger Paul Lambert has left the club by mutual consent. The Scotsman guided Villa out of the bottom three and kept them in the premier league but has decided to leave Vila Park. It is believed that Villa should reveal there new manager tomorrow evening at a press conference inside Villa Park. It is widely speculated that it will be former captain Stiliyan Petrov who will take the job.

The Bulgarian was forced to retire from football after being diagnosed with leukaemia in March 2012. The former Celtic and Villa player is a popular figure throughout football and has been made favourite for the job by many bookmakers. Petrov is currently assistant manager of the under 21 team and Villa. Villa fans are disappointed about the departure of Paul Lambert but are fully behind whoever gets the job.
Good luck!

Petrov takes Charge

Its what we all expected, Siliyan Petrov has officially been named the new manager of Aston Villa. Petrov has signed a one year deal with Villa this morning and held a press conference at Villa Park.

"I am very pleased that the club have the faith to appoint me as manager and I hope to repay them by having a successful season. "Petrov was asked what he would deem a successful season, the Bulgarian answered, "I believe tht if we manage to stay in the league that would be a huge success, but I do think that we might be able to push for a mid table finish" Petrov also confirmed that players will have to leave if any new signings are to arrive.

Petrov Ready For Albion

Aston Villa are preparing for their first game under new boss Stan Petrov. It is a hard start to life in management for Petrov as he takes on Albion in the West Midlands derby at Villa Park on Sunday. However, Petrov believes it is a good game to start as he will not need to motivated the players for such a big game. Villa have still not made any new signings due to their current financial state. Petrov says that he needs to sell players before can add fresh faces to the squad but he insists nobody is for sale.

Derby Day Draw
Aston Villa started life under Stiliyan Petrov with a draw against close rivals West Brom. Villa were the better of the two sides and edged it on possession with 55% of the ball. However, despite this Villa only created two chances during the game. Belgian Benteke had two chances in the second half of the game but failed to convert.

West Brom failed to leave their stamp on the game after a poor performance from Pepe Mel's side. West Brom failed to have one shot on target in the 90 minutes. Mel said "Defensively we were good but apart from that we were very poor tonight."

Aston Villa wrongly had a goal ruled out for offside, Ciaran Clark scored what he thought was a late winner in the 89th minute of the game but the linesman flagged for offside. Replays of the incident clearly show that Clark was onside when the ball was played to him. This decision angered Petrov, who thought his side deserved the 3 points overall.
