League 2 side Plymouth Argyle have announced the sacking of their manager effective today. Current manager John Sheridan has stepped down from his job after one year. Last January he took over for Carl Fletcher.

The last few matches were subpar at best and the board was looking for change. On Monday the two parties had decided to break up by "mutual consent".

"It has been a good year with Plymouth but things were not going good and the two of us decided it would be best to end this relationship before things got worse, " said Chairman James Brent.

During his year John Sheridan guided Plymouth Argyle to 18 wins 12 draws and 19 losses in 49 matches. Last season he lead the team to a disappointing 21st place finish and the team is currently in 16th. As of right now the Pilgrims are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Fleetwood (62), Scunthorpe (56) and Accrington (51) are the top three sides.

The Pilgrims have been a side on the decline in the last few seasons. Back in the 2009/10 season they were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship and had a quick drop to League 2 in two seasons.

Plymouth will be facing Cheltenham on the 25th. They might have a manager for this match but most likely coach Seth McCarthy will be in charge. Chairman James Brent will be working day and night to find Sheridan's replacement.
Good Luck my the Pilgrims flock to your side

Robinson will take charge of the first team following yesterday's game against Cheltenham, with caretaker boss Seth McCarthy remaining with the club as a coach here at Home Park.

The 29 year old Robinson has agreed to terms at Home Park for his first time in management. Before taking over he was a Sunday league footballer/manager. "We understand that Wayne has no major managerial experience but the fans should not be alarmed as we feel he can help the club return to the Championship," said Chairman James Brent.

Following his introduction Robinson took some time to talk with PAFCTV. "I am very happy to have an opportunity to lead my club to the promise land. This will take some time but I promise you fans that we will get to the top someday. I want to try to make the playoffs at the end of this season."-Wayne Robinson. Newport County 3-2 Plymouth Argyle

The Pilgrims lose close encounter against Newport County in Wayne Robinson's first match as manager.

Plymouth continued their slump as they have lost their third straight match in a row. The club is now in 19th place in League 2 action.

It was not a day to remember for new Plymouth boss Wayne Robinson as he watched his club crumble in minutes after the whistle blew.Newport winger Robbie Willmott gave the Exiles the early in the 8th minute. Later on Newport would score their second thanks to Rene Howe.

The scoreline was looking to create a disastrous first match for Robinson as Newport scored again in the 56th minute. Winger Andres Gurrieri scored their final goal of the match.

The final ten minutes were very exciting to be honest as Plymouth would mount a small comeback. Jason Banton would score both goals (81',87')to get the visitors within a goal. It was looking like Plymouth could pull off a miracle and tie it up. It was too late as the whistle blew.

"Losing your first match in charge of a club is always hard but that happens. The guys looked good towards the end and hopefully we can pick things up in the next few matches.-Wayne Robinson.

Robinson and the Pilgrims are looking to end this losing streak on the fist of February as they host Mansfield. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm at Home Park.

Nice idea and start!

February Results

For Robinson's first full month February was pretty successful. It was also the best month since September and early October for the club as they went 3-1-0. Wayne Robinson might have be the person Plymouth supporters were looking for. Currently they are in 16th place and still have an outside chance of making the playoffs even though the window is closing fast.

The first match against Mansfield resulted in a draw. This was an important match since Plymouth finally ended their three game losing streak. The Pilgrims only goal came in the 46th minute as Yeovil loan Reuben Reid scored from 19 yards out.

The Pilgrims would get their first win since December in the next match. Andres Gurrieri would redeem himself after that own goal against Newport as he scored the two goals in the match. "I am glad coach has kept the faith in me, his guidance has helped me since my mistake last month," said Gurrieri after the match.

The final two matches of February were against York and Drag & Red. In total Argyle scored six goals while goalkeeper Luke McCormick only conceded two during these matches. Curtis Nelson was the key played in the Drag & Red match. He scored two of the three goals in the match.
March gets underway on the first with Morcambe visiting home park.

It will be a busy month with matches against Exeter, Wycombe, Chesterfield and three others. Plymouth need to have a few victories if they want that playoff spot. Most importantly is the match against Exeter in the West Country Derby. For some Argyle supporters a loss against Exeter is worse than relegation.
Well done on finally ending that losing streak, and by going unbeaten for the month. Some tough games coming up, especially Chesterfield. Hopefully you can get the results you need and sneak a chance at getting into the Play offs!
@Nick Same here I really don't want to be stuck in League 2
Nice update Bayern and like Nick said hopefully you can get some good results and sneak a play off place!

P.S In reply to your comment, Portsmouth and Plymouth are not footballing rivals however the two cities can relate to each other as both have dockyards.
