League 2 side Plymouth Argyle have announced the sacking of their manager effective today. Current manager John Sheridan has stepped down from his job after one year. Last January he took over for Carl Fletcher.
The last few matches were subpar at best and the board was looking for change. On Monday the two parties had decided to break up by "mutual consent".
"It has been a good year with Plymouth but things were not going good and the two of us decided it would be best to end this relationship before things got worse, " said Chairman James Brent.
During his year John Sheridan guided Plymouth Argyle to 18 wins 12 draws and 19 losses in 49 matches. Last season he lead the team to a disappointing 21st place finish and the team is currently in 16th. As of right now the Pilgrims are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Fleetwood (62), Scunthorpe (56) and Accrington (51) are the top three sides.
The Pilgrims have been a side on the decline in the last few seasons. Back in the 2009/10 season they were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship and had a quick drop to League 2 in two seasons.
Plymouth will be facing Cheltenham on the 25th. They might have a manager for this match but most likely coach Seth McCarthy will be in charge. Chairman James Brent will be working day and night to find Sheridan's replacement.
