The Lynx Roars - A Gibraltar Lynx FC Story

Aalesund put El Lince to the sword!

Aalesund, Norwegian Champions for the year 2014. A Bridge too far for Lynx. Unaccustomed to playing so early in the season, Lynx's players came up against a team they could never beat. The Norwegian league was already 12 games old and these seasoned pros were run in. The gulf in class was obvious, painfully obvious as the 0-7 scoreline that adorned the Victoria Stadium scoreboard after 90 minutes indicated.

The match belonged to Czech striker Zdenek Ondraseck, who scored a hat trick. The worst news for Lynx was that star striker George Cabrera limped off after 11 minutes. Garcia is hoping his goal getter is not seriously injured for the coming season. Four more goals followed including one from a full Moroccan international and another from a player with 46 caps for Costa Rica. Lynx FC had nothing to be ashamed about!

As he sat there in the dugout knowing that Lynx's Champions League dream was over he was more determined than ever to make this club successful. He knew they'd be a monetary windfall coming due to qualifying for the second qualifying round. He'd approach the board again to extend the scouting network of the club in order to be able to sign better quality players. His request last year was turned down but this time he had money backing his request.

Appreciate the support! Been busy in RL. Little time for gaming
Tough result to take, good news on your scouting range upgrade though!

Mirroring whats been going on in the game. Lincoln FC were crowned champions last Monday night beating Lions 4-1 meaning they will be the first ever Gibraltarian team to play in the Champions League. Manchester United (62) are favourites for the second spot meaning qualification for the Europa Leagua qualifiers.

Yesterday our Under 19 side drew 2-2 vs Hungary Under 19s. We were 2-0 up and Hungary equalised in the 88th minute. Great effort for the boys and great for Gibraltarian football!
Well Aalesund finished off the job as expected in Norway but the windfall was substantial. £405,000 in prize money. Not an amount to sneer at for an amateur club! Proper update to come at the end of pre season. Immediate effect of raising the club's profile is the request by Spanish 2nd Division side Racing Santander to play a friendly at the Victoria Stadium! Another £9,000 in the bank :)
:ooo, I'm managing Racing and currently have a story, so happy to see them where I am now! Been treated with some fantastic updates. Hopefully you'll get CL next season.

Pre-Season

A mixed preseason that was largely dominated by the Champions League Qualifying games. A massive achievement by an amateur club to reach the second qualifying round. £405,000 in the bank and an immediate rise the club's prestige meaning more sides were willing to offer us friendlies or accept the offer of friendlies. The most prestigious friendly was Spanish Second Division side Racing de Santander that saw off Lynx in a 0-2 victory that nonetheless added more money into the club's coffers. The other games saw a comfortable victory over Costa del Sol regional side Fuengirola and a hard fought victory over 2nd Division side Sporting (Gib). Two draws against two further second division sides saw a propensity to ship in goals. 5 signings were made over the course of the summer punctuated by two pieces of bad news. Firstly George Cabrera would not see any action until late October following his injury against Aalesund. Secondly the board rejected the request to widen the scouting range. This has soured Harry Garcia's relationship with the board as after generating nearly half a million in profit, he feels as if the club do not share his ambitions.

Signings

5 new players were welcomed to the club. Foremost among them was Lincoln FC and GFA stalwart Daniel Duarte. Unhappy at being unplayed by Lincoln and very disappointed by Mick Macelwee's departure he was quick to jump at Lynx FC's offer. Though now in his mid 30s he would provide solid cover in centre mid as well as tutor a lot of the younger members of the squad. Somewhat of a local coup for Lynx.

Fellow Lincoln team mate Mark Casciaro also left the Red Imps to sign for El Lince. Another seasoned GFA player he could play anywhere on the left side of defence or midfield. Once again he would have a tutoring and mentoring role.

Back up keeper Philip Hermida was signed from 2nd Divsion side Boca Juniors (Gib) as cover. A long term injury to keeper Jamie Payas meant cover was needed. Easily the best keeper in the lower tier and with scope for improvement, Hermida was a solid addition to the squad.

Kristian Diani, a right sided midfielder was also signed from Gibraltar Phoenix. Harding and Gerrard were the players normally on the right side of midfield but with the latter nearing the wrong end of 30 and the former still in his formative years, Garcia plumped for this experienced solid player to cover any possible injuries or suspensions. Stefan Oliva, a center defender, was also signed from Gibraltar Lions Pilots. An 18 year old defender with a lot of potential for the future.
Good luck, the Aaselund result must've been tough to take, and watch as well.

It was but to be expected really. Aalesund managed to make the Champions League proper so I guess I'm not to be too disheartend!

Pepe Reyes Cup

The Pepe Reyes Cup serves as Gibraltar's traditional curtain rasier like the Community Shield does for the Premier League in England. It pits the league champions versus the cup champions of the previous season. In the event of a Double being won it pits the Champions versus the runners up of the previous season.

A mild breezy day saw Lync FC win their first silverware of the season against Lincoln. The latter are no strangers to this competition having played in it for the last 12 seasons, however for the first time in 10 years they are wearing the mantle of Rock Cup Champions and not League Champions. Lynx dominated the match, the seemed fitter than their opponents and the four games of Champions League Qualification had not only reaped dividends in the bank balance! Lincoln were reduced to shots from range which keeper Robba had no difficulty keeping at bay. George Cabrera was still injured and it was junior strikers Marquez and Robba that led the line. The latter scoring a header from a Wayne Harding cross that looped over Lincoln goalie Moxham. Daniel Duarte and Mark Casciaro made their débuts against a team that had played for all their lives and it was strange seeing them in the Yellow of El Lince. Yet they toiled hard against their former team mates to earn Harry Garica a second trophy. The league fixtures would come thick and fast in the coming weeks with College Pegasus, recently promoted from the Second Division, the first team Lynx would defend their title against.

As a side note. The league finished here last weekend. Lincoln were champions with Gib Phoenix relegated. St Joesph's FC now play a play-off versus the second placed team in the Second Division. Manchester United (62) finished second and provisionally have booked a place in next years Europa League Qualifiers. I say provisionally as it is the Rock Cup Final this coming Saturday at 4pm. Lincoln FC play College Europa and Michel Platini is coming at the invite of the GFA to do the honours and present the trophy to the winners. In the event of Lincoln doing the Double Man Utd (62) will play the Europa League. Should College win it will be they who then take the qualifying spot! Interesting times!
Love this story, keep it up man! Look into some players outside of Gib, no way youre gunna become European kings sticking to Gibraltan players haha XD
