Four in, four out
It's reported that Roberto Baggio had been handed a £50 million transfer kitty at the start of this summer transfer window and having already spent just £18 million, fans would be in hope of a big name signing on his way to Naples, thankfully, they wouldn't need to hope any longer.
Hojbjerg and Pereyra joined last week for a combined fee of £18 million. With £32 million left, it was surprising to see what Baggio did with it. First, he signed Belgian shot stopper Koen Casteels from Hoffenheim for a fee £9.75 million, to replace the empty gap left by Pepe Reina who left for his parent club Liverpool just a few days before. Casteels is by no means a proven, experienced goal keeper but he did have an impressive last season with Hoffenheim and it's thought with just a little more experience, he could become a fantastic keeper in the future!
Long term target from Roma, Dodo was the next to join the club for £15 million. Napoli already have two strong left backs in Murru and Goulham and it's thought that maybe a better signing would be someone for the position of right back, but maybe we'll see a left back leave the club as well as a right back joining?
The first to depart Napoli this summer, was Eduardo Vargas. The striker had been out on loan for the past year at Valencia where he netted 12 goals in 38 appearances. Baggio has done well to take advantage of his decent form and has managed to cash in on him earning a solid £15 million. Baggio may regret selling the Argentine, but wither way, he'll definitely enjoy spending that sum of cash to strengthen other areas of the squad.
Now with £15 million in the bank, was greed taking over? The next to leave was surprisingly Jose Callejon who has had a blinder of a season in Baggio's first year with him. Of course the lad is now 27 years old, but he'll definitely need top pull a deal out of the bag to replace Callejon surely? The winger has left for £9 million and even more surprisingly has gone back to his old club Real Madrid.
After raking in the cash from two big sales, two joined the club and both are massive signings that could make all the difference this season. The first of the two is Serge Aurier, an underrated right back from Ivory coast who started his career with Racing Club De Lens, before joining Toulouse four years into his career. He then played for his new club on a regular occurrence and even managed to get his first cap for his country proving himself to Roberto Baggio who beat his rivals to his man with a of £11 million.
The last to join his possibly the biggest signing Baggio has made, but in fact not the most expensive. He was bought from PSG for only £13 million. Of course he was very much unsettled at the club and it took some haggling from Baggio to pull this one off but in the end he managed to get Lucas Moura's signature on a five year deal. £13 million pounds for Moura is one of the bargains of the year and has surprised everyone! Can he become settled at his new club and be a star player for Napoli or is Brazil calling him back?
Behrami and Radosevic have also left the club for a combined fee of £10.5 million which will decrease the loss they have made. A lot of movements in the past few days, and it's looking like it'll be hard for Baggio to gel this quad together with just a few friendlies to play. He'll have almost the same team as last year as well as the new signings which is obviously a good thing, but will there be a struggle to keep players happy?
