Thumbs Up: Seedorf seems to have gotten the thumbs up from both the Milan faithful and the board
A.C. Milan's recent run of form has been nothing short of a dream, with them occupying the first spot in Serie A, with a decent four point lead over surprise second placed contenders Udinese and qualifying from their UEFA Champions League group. There can be legitimate discussions and disagreements about whether they can maintain this form, but there is one thing that both fans and pundits can agree upon - there is only one man responsible for this meteoric rise in Milan's fortunes both domestically and continentally, take a guess? No, it is NOT Silvio Berlusconi - infact, it is their new head coach and former player Clarence Seedorf. Yesterday, despite Real Madrid drubbing A.C. Milan at the San Siro 4-1, the Milan board completed contract renewal negotiations with Seedorf, which saw the Dutch international sign a three year extension on his contract which would keep him at San Siro till 2017. The new contract is rumored to be worth £61,000 a week. One thing that all Milan fans will agree, is that Seedorf's recent management has proven that he will definitely be worth it!
Club Chairman and owner, Silvio Berlusconi reported that he was delighted that Seedorf had decided to extend his stay at the San Siro with the extension, also stating that he hoped that "both Milan and Seedorf would thrive together". It is said that the board is hoping that this renewal will provide newfound vigour to the team and Seedorf as they prepare to face their eternal rivals, Inter in the Derby della Madonnina.
When contacted with questions about the contract extension, Seedorf said that he was pleased that he could stay with Milan for a longer period and fulfill the ambitions he had for the club. He was also quick to laud Silvio Berlusconi for the recently announced improvements that are being made to the youth and training facilities at San Siro, stating that he felt that this was the right move, since they could now produce home grown talent and compete without splurging in the transfer market every now and then, also stating his intention to initiate something like the philosophy of the Ajax youth academy of which Seedorf was himself a product. It is great to see him plan for the time ahead, but the more pressing test right now for the manager is the upcoming Milan derby. Who will triumph? Inter or A.C. Milan?
