Review: August 2013 - A Steady Start

10/08/2013 | Lille 2-0 Lorient | Stade Pierre Mauroy

Lille:
Martin (42) Bourillion (og)(71)

Lorient
N/A

Martin (8.3)

Fresh of the back of a very good preseason Lille went into their first match of the season against FC Lorient, a team expected to finish mid table, the bookies had Lille down to win and they didn't disappoint. Scoring two well worked goals although one did go down as an own goal thanks to the dubious goal panel. Lille played very well, kept possession and shut out the opponents to take a very professional 2-0 win.

21/08/2013 | Stade de Reims 0-2 Lille | Stade Auguste Delaune

Stade de Reims:
N/A

Lille: Origi (24) Martin (63)

Martin (8.2)

Lille went into this game looking to secure back to back wins, again against one of the leagues weaker opposition. They worked hard and kept the lion share of the possession, limited their opponents to one shot on target. Back to back wins and clean sheets will no doubt please the manager heading into next weeks clash against European spot contenders, AS Saint-Etienne.

25/08/2013 | Lille 1-1 AS Saint-Etienne | Stade Pierre Mauroy

Lille:
Stocker (32)
Origi, Beria

AS Saint-Etienne:
Erdnic (30)
N'Guemo, Bayasse

Stocker (7.7)

One of the first real tests so far, against one of the leagues bigger teams ASSE. Both teams contended very well for the full 90 minutes, AS Saint-Etienne did take the lead but credit to Lille to respond almost immediately to get back in the game, neither side really pushed on to try win the game as neither side wanted to be exposed at the back, all in all a good point and we move onto the next one.

31/08/2013 | Stade Rennais 2-3 Lille | Stade de la Route de Lorient

Stade Rennais:
Oliveira (4) Alessandrini (79)
Konradsen, Paiot, M'Bengue, Danze
Jean ll Makoun

Lille: Origi (5, 32, 90)
Rozehnal

Origi (9.5)

The final game of the month saw Lille come up against a very stubborn Stade Rennais side, they came flying out of the blocks scoring on the fourth minute of the game but Lille did what they have already done this season and pegged the team back immediately, Lille then went onto getting a foothold in the game and managed to take the lead, then Stade Rennais equalized with not long left. Then out of nowhere, with what was quite literally the last kick of the game Origi managed to round off his first professional hat-rick and send Lille home with the three points. A steady start to the season and still unbeaten heading into September!

Player of the Month

It was tricky to pick this months winner, but it was between two players, Origi and Martin. Do I go with the goals of Origi, or just the brilliance and creativity of Martin? In the end I had to choose Martin, he has been inspirational so far this season, getting important goals and giving the striker the ammunition to score goals too, so without a doubt this months player of the month goes to Marvin Martin.

Very good start to the month man, really enjoy your stories! Maybe make your match reports a little more visual if you get what I mean, but overall a very good detailed update!

Comments

Josh - Thanks Josh! Even I'm surprised at whats happened so far and what is to come! Kalou is a player I've always liked so hopefully he can do well for me and not make a new enemy :P

James - Thanks James, really appreciate you comment was happy with how the preseason went :)

Pauker - Cheers Pauker, always appreciate a comment from you with your inquisitive ways! Stocker will most likely be the left sided man and Kalou on the right :)

Kernel - Hahaha, If only I had the money PSG and Monaco had then maybe! I won't rule out a return when hes about 35 though :P

AS4 - Thanks man, glad you're enjoying :P

Jonte - Thanks Jonte :)

Josh x2 - Thanks for the feedback Josh, glad you are enjoying it, I'll look to make it more visually attractive for next time :)

Review: September 2013 - Blips

14/09/2013 | Lille 2-0 OGC Nice | Stade Pierre Mauroy

Lille:
Rozehnal (6) Mendes da Graca (55)
Beria
Kalou

OGC Nice:
N/A
Pejcinovic, Digard, Kolodziejczak

Rozehnal (8.0)

A nice victory and another clean sheet here against fairly week opposition, was expected really. We blew them out of the water with possession and shots, was nice to see some of the rotational players getting on the score sheet too, gives me something else to think about in future squad picking.

21/09/2013 | FC Sochaux 1-1 Lille | Stade Auguste Bonal

Sochaux:
Roudet (69)

Lille: Roux (80)
Rozehnal

Sunzu (7.5)

A terrible draw, 2 points dropped instead of 1 point gained, we should of beaten Sochaux. Would of helped if we'd of had 10 men on the pitch for the full game but that wasn't the case, repaying Rozenhal for scoring in the previous match turned out to bite me on the backside with him getting sent off for elbowing Ayew. Very disappointing with the result of this game.

25/09/2013 | Lille 1-1 Evian TG | Stade Pierre Mauroy

Lille:
Stocker (8)
Balmont, Roux, Mendes da Graca

Evian TG
Barbosa (26)
Abdallah

Barbosa (7.9)

Another dissapointing performance against another bog standard team, nothing too special, was even worse the fact that the Evian manager was running his mouth before the match so that made it even harder to swallow. But we started the game well and we're doing the right things, their keeper played a blinder but we should of done better, we struggled without Kalou and Origi there is no doubt about that. Hopefully we can save the month and get a win against Lyon.

28/09/2013 | Olympique Lyonnais 2-0 Lille | Stade de Gerland

Lyon:
Malbranque (27) Briand (29)
Bisevac, Bedimo, Gonalons

Lille:
N/A
Beria, Balmont

Malbranque (7.8)

I'm normally quite humble in defeat, but this just takes the cake! We was awful, we may as well not of turned up, they played us off the park and left us red faced in all area's. Malbranque scored an absolute belter of a freekick clearly over 40 yards, he still has it even for his age. We need to step up big time in the next few games otherwise we can rule ourselves out of the continental places. Kalou has also been a big miss due to his injury, but we go on!

Player of the Month

This month we was that poor I have decided that nobody deserves player of the month, we was absolutely awful with some very poor performances, the lads know I aren't happy and I fully expect them to change it round come next month.
Hard month there :|
You will bounce back surely :D
Pretty tough month, but you'll bounce back.. you must :P!

Kalou Ruled Out

Lille's Ivorian winger Salomon Kalou will be out for around 5-7 weeks after pulling up short in the game against OGC Nice, it is believed the winger pulled his hamstring.

Kalou has been one of the key cogs in Lille's current success this season averaging match ratings of 7.54 so far this term for Heynckes' new side.

As it stands Mendes de Graca looks to be the only real replacement in his absence, hopefully it will not be too much of a loss for Heynckes' men and he can come back stronger and help the team.
Jupp had the following to say:

"I wish Salomon a speedy recovery. He has been key for us so far this season getting up and down the line and attacking the oppositions back four, he will be key for us this season so we need him back as soon as possible, Mendes de Graca will come in, hes been raring to go and has looked sharp in training so he will get his chance."

High Flyer: Kalou has been key this season, being Lille's second highest average rated player.
Damn, Kalou is a great player and you'll be at a big disadvantage with his injury.
Injuries are tough, believe me. Hopefully someone can do better than Kalou and challenge for his spot when he's back.. That's the best case scenario :)

October 2013: Back On Top

05/10/2013 | Lille 3-0 AC Ajaccio | Stade Pierre Mauroy

Lille:
Sidibe (25) Mavuba (33) Origi (38)
Mavuba, Beria, Basa, Mendes da Graca
Mavuba (54)

AC Ajaccio:
N/A
Mostefa

Sidibe (8.7)

Our first game of the month saw us come up against AC Ajaccio finding life in Ligue 1 relatively tough as they started the day bottom of the league, Lille came out and dominated the game from start to finish and managed to score three goals and also keep a clean sheet, the only disappointment was to see captain Rio Mavuba see red for his second yellow just shy of the hour mark. A positive start to the month, bring on the next!

19/10/2013 | Montpellier HSC 0-3 Lille | Stade de La Mosson

Montpellier:
N/A
Bocaly
Mounier (53)

Lille:
Origi (42) Martin (pen 57) Mendes da Graca (86)
Sidibe

Mendes da Graca (8.8)

Another convincing win by a Lille side hunting top spot come the end of the month, and no better way to do it then beating European football hopefuls Montpellier. Lille played them off the park in a similar manner to what they did against Ajaccio. Scoring three goals and keeping yet another clean sheet.

26/10/2013 | FC Nantes 1-2 Lille | Stade Louis Fonteneau

FC Nantes:
Bangoura (9)
Gomis, Riou, Alhadhur

Lille:
Mendes da Graca (16) Martin (72)
Balmont, Beria

Stocker (8.0)

We went into this game against Nantes shocked with how well they had actually done in the league, they sat in 3rd place going into this game and they came out the blocks flying and went 1 up before the tenth minute. Lille found their rhythm though and eventually went on to win the game 2-1, a close scare in a very close match but regardless we won the match, lets hope the form continues into the next month.

Player of the Month

This month there was simply no competition, Mendes da Graca was outstanding this month in Kalous absence and he has giving me something to think about with future selections. Even I was surprised at how well he had done, a couple of goals and assists helped us reach top spot and hopefully it can continue heading forwards.

Above: Mendes da Graca celebrating a goal with the Lille faithful.
You've done fantastic, and a great month!
Great Write up mate, Your doing a fantastic job keep it up. I will be following! btw what team instructions did you do ? cheers

Help?

I am really enjoying this story thus far and I'm enjoying bringing you the updates. But I have also been working on a new story so far, I believe it to be a good one and it brings a whole new element to my story writing so I was wondering if you would either:

  • Prefer me to carry on with Lille?
  • Stop Lille, and do this new story?
  • Continue with Lille and also have the new story running parallel?

Feedback would be much appreciated throughout either messages or via this post, was easier than just doing a poll and cluttering up the forum so please let me know what you think.

I will continue to post updates on this story until I have a clear indication of what to do.

Cheers,
Adam

Pauker - Thanks buddy, appreciate the kind words! even I am surprised at how well we are going so far in the league :)

Jem2701 - Cheers Jem, glad you're enjoying. And the instructions I use are:

Mentality: Control
Fluidity: Fluid

Retain Possession, Shorter Passing, Run at Defence, Exploit the Right Flank (due to kalou) Higher Tempo and Hassle Opponents.

And the tactics that I use are on the first page of the post :)
