David Moyes has complted his first month as our new manager and here is a summary of August and the results.
Arsenal(a)
First up this month was a trip across North London to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. After an unbeaten pre-season Spurs arrived in a confident mood to take all three points from their rivals, and that is exactly what the visitors did. 60,000 supporters filled the Emirates to watch the first game of the 2013/14 season. Arsenal suffered a huge blow after 6 minutes as Santi Cazorla had to be substituted after a heavy tackle from Jan Vertonghen. On the 30th minute Roberto Soldado broke through the Arsenal defence and chipped the advancing Szczesny to put Spurs 1-0 ahead. The second half was poor as neither team were able to create chances in front of goal. Tottenham headed home with all three points.
Crystal Palace(h)
Tottenham fans had their first chance to see new manager David Moyes as Spurs welcomed Premier League new comers to White Hart Lane. Tottenham started brightly and missed two great chances that fell to striker Roberto Soldado. Tottenham rued these missed chances as Vertonghen put the ball past Hugo Lloris giving the visitors the lead against the run of play. Palace came out after the interval with a clear game plan, to keep behind the ball and frustrate Spurs. Tottenham created numerous chances before Soldado double his goal tally for Spurs with a thunderous header. Despite their complete domination Spurs only managed to leave with one point.
After these two game we find ourselves 6th in the table with a trip to Cardiff next up in the League.
St. Gallen(h)
Tottenham were drawn against FC St. Gallen in the play off of the Europa League. The first leg was at White Hart Lane and was a game Spurs controlled from the outset. Soldado got the break through 13 minutes into the game and opened the flood gates for Spurs. Vertonghen doubled the lead from an excellent free kick before Lamela made it 3 before half time. Five minutes into the second half Andros Townsend got the fourth of the night. Danny Rose made it five before an own goal from Besle secured a 6-0 victory for Spurs.
St. Gllen(a)
The second leg was just as easy for Spurs and once again took the lead early as Paulinho got his first goal for Spurs. Townsend got his second of the tie. Lamela also got his second of the tie to complete a 9-0 aggregate win for David Moyes' men.
Tottenham were drawn in group J with Red Bul Salzburg, Bursaspor and Maribor and will be looking to advance to the last 32 comfortably.
