Dortmund edge out Bayern in close encounter

Borussia Dortmund 1-0 FC Bayern München

For new FC Bayern manager Pep Guardiola it was not a first competitive match with Bayern to remember. After a flawless preseason with wins over clubs such as Atsenal and Barcelona, Die Bayern seemed to bee off their game.

Coming in to the match it was expected to be a very close and hard fought encounter. The only score came in the 37th minute as Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal. His goal was the highlight of the match as both sides were incompetent with finishing.

This match also featured the debut of Mario Götze for FC Bayern. The fans seemed upset and did not give him a warm welcome. At the start of the match the BvB fans had a tifo with the words "Judas" inscribed.

"It was crazy to be back at Signal Iduna and it was a hard loss hopefully we get a chance of revenge later on this season."-Mario Götze

This match was such a thriller all the way to the end you could feel the pressure inside the stadium from the start to the end of the match. Even though Dortmund dominated by the final score you can give credit to Bayern. They never showed any signs of quitting and their fans should be proud. After the match President of the DFL, Dr. Reinhard Rauball announced that Robert Lewandowski won the Man of the Match award.

Bayern defeat Chelsea on penalties in Super Cup

Published: Friday 30 August 2013, 23.57CET
FC Bayern München 2-2 Chelsea FC (aet, Bayern win 8-7 on pens)
The UEFA Champions League winners required a Jerome Boateng goal in the 90th minute to equalize and then held their nerve in the shoot-out.

FC Bayern München won the first UEFA Super Cup to be held outside of Monaco in 15 years with a 8-7 penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea FC following a 2-2 draw in Prague. This would be the clubs first ever Super Cup and it is also new manager Pep Guardiola's first trophy with Bayern.

The 2012 UEFA Champions League final repeat proved similar to the original as Bayern lead in possession. Like last time, it was Bayern who opened the scoring through Franck Ribéry during the 21st minute.

Chelsea's Oscar would be the key player for the blues as he struck gold twice. The first was in extra time at the end of the first half. He would answer his first goal with a game leading second in the 67th.

Bayern were soon back on the offensive. Eager to level up the score Bayern were not able to convert. There were many times that Franck Ribéry could have scored but each time he was just off the mark. It wasn't until extra time in the 90th that Bayern got their chance. Defender Jerome Boateng scored the equalizer from a beautiful header. This sent the two clubs in to overtime. It was Munich 2012 all over again.

The next thirty minutes would be both exciting and nerve racking for both sides. Every time a player got a chance the goalkeeper would make insane saves. There were a few times that Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer had to go beyond his physical limits.

120 minutes past by and the two clubs were heading back to penalty kicks. Bayern were looking to erase the heart break of the 2012 Champions League Final with a better outcome. So both managers sent in their players and one by one each time someone stepped up they would score. Bayern striker Mario Mandzukic would miss his penalty and then John Obi Mikel would follow suit. After a few more opportunities Boateng would be the hero for Bayern as he scored what would be the game winner. Cesar Azpilicueta would miss his penalty giving FC Bayern München the trophy.

Nice update! I love the way your updating and I will be following

Report

It was a great opening month for FC Bayern. In Guardiola's first full month of competition he was able to pick things up after the DFL-Supercup loss last month. It all started with a 4-0 thrashing against BFC Dynamo. Next the team gets to face VfB Stuttgart who were the opponents in last year's DFB-Pokal . In league play FC Bayern were able to win every match in the month. During the four Bundesliga matches goal keeper Manuel Neuer has not conceded a goal. Finally the club won the 2013 UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea in Penalties.

On the Champions League front FC Bayern were drawn a pretty manageable group. On the 29th they were drawn alongside CSKA Moscow, Manchester City and Celtic. The pundits believe we have an easy group and should be taking first in no time. The first match is set for 18 September at Celtic Park in Glasgow against Scottish Champions Celtic FC.

Interview with Rafinha

http://media.bundesliga.com/media/images/12_bl_com/628x353/bvb_fcb_2_rafinha_kuba_628.jpg

FC Bayern have been on fire under new manager Pep Guardiola and we have seen a new side of the club. He has implemented a 4-1-4-1 formation and many players have flourished under it. The most notable player is Brazilian right back Rafinha. Before this season he was seen as a backup and a fringe player. Now with Lahm sometimes playing at the DM spot he has seen more playing time. A few days before Bayern's 1-0 victory over Celtic we had a chance to interview him.

So Rafinha what is your take on Guardiola so far?

I really enjoy it. Pep is a strong leader and it shows. The fact that he has given me a chance at playing more at my position has really helped my game. He is extremely strict and that helps us focus more and improve.

How has Philipp Lahm been a help to your development at this position? We have heard that he has helped you get more comfortable in it.

Well yes he has always been a big help and a good friend to me. With him moving to the DM spot more than ever he has given me some great tips to improve my game.

With Champions League resuming in a few days, how will you fair and give us a score prediction for the Celtic match.

We can win it all again or at least make the final. Real Madrid look like the team that could give us the most issues later on and I say we beat Celtic 2-0.

We know about your hatred towards Dortmund, with Mario Götze now on the club, how have you handled him?

Well it took some time, at first I was really upset that he was joining and I even played a bit dirty tackling him, Manu sat me down and told me that we are teammates now and I should respect him, and leave my hatred only towards Dortmund and not him. Now we are pretty good friends.

Finally, what are your goals for yourself in the next year?

Well other than winning as much with Bayern my main goal is to get a call up for the Brazilian National Team before the World Cup. If I even get a chance to play the World Cup or even be part on the roster I will be happy.
nice updates buddy, really enjoying the layout on this! keep it up!
Really enjoying these updates, very easy on the eye as well as you doing well! That Chelsea penalty shoot-out must of been tense! :)
TodayAtTomorrow Thanks!!

Jack: It was as crazy as in the past two matches the two went into penalties in real life. Why is it that the two clubs always end in penalties? haha

Report

FC Bayern continued their domination in the Bundesliga with three more wins. It was all good for Manuel Neuer until the match against Freiburg. During it he coincided his first two goals of the league season. Also the club began their defense of the Champions League trophy with a 1-0 victory over Celtic. Finally they advance to the DFB-Pokal Third round and will face Hoffenheim.

Bad news came to Bayern during the middle of the month. Both Toni Kross and Thiago were injured. Both will be out around a month or two and a huge void has been left in the middle. Pierre Højbjerg made his 2013/14 debut against Hannover.
