Schmeichel Named FC Kobenhavn Manager

Peter Bolesław Schmeichel born 18 November 1963 now aged 49 is a Danish retired professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper, and was voted the "World's Best Goalkeeper" in 1992 and 1993.

He is best remembered for his most successful years at English club Manchester United, whom he captained to the 1999 UEFA Champions League to complete the Treble, and for winning UEFA Euro 1992 with Denmark.

Born in Gladsaxe, Copenhagen, Schmeichel was famous for his intimidating physique (he is 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in) tall and weighed about 105 kg (16 st 7 lb) during his playing days), and wore specially made size XXXL football shirts. Unusual for a goalkeeper, Schmeichel scored 11 goals during his career, including one for the national team. He is also the most capped player for the Denmark national team, with 129 games between 1987 and 2001. In addition to Euro 92, he played for his country at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and three additional European Championship tournaments. He captained the national team in 30 matches.

He holds the record for the greatest clean sheets-to-games ratio in the Premier League with 42% of the games he played in the league ending without his team conceding.

He also represented Gladsaxe Hero, Hvidovre, Brøndby, Sporting CP, Aston Villa and Manchester City in a career that lasted from 1981 until 2003. His son, Kasper, is also a professional football goalkeeper.

He now will start his career in management with reigning Danish Supaliga champions FC Kobenhaven. Will The be a match made in heaven or SchmeicHELL?

FC Kobenhavn have also made it through to the UEFA Champions League Group Stage where they have been drawn in group C along with German Champions Bayern Munich, French Ligue 1 team Olympique Marseille and rising Italian team Napoli.
Many consider Kobenhavn the weakest team left in the competition let alone the group and they will do well to get a point at all.
Woah you've made some very nice signings considering the level of club that Kobenhavn are, hopefully they lead you to glory!

In a game where Marseille dominated possesion it was FC KObenhavn that came out victoriuos on a warm clear night in France. Things started off tense for the opening 20 minutes until a mistake by Nkoulou saw him put the ball past his own keeper to give the Danes a 1-0 lead and 2 minutes later a Cornelius pass set free Jorgensen to double the lead to 2-0 which remained the score until half time.

Jorgensen Celebrating doubling the lead

The second half provided a lot more action as Marseille had to push fowards to get back into the game but Cornelius got on the ball early and in the 47th minute he put it on a plate for Gislason to make it 3-0 to the away team. Marseille clicked into a different gear and pushed for a goal to kick start their comeback, One finally came in the 74th minute when Romero set up Khalifa to make it 3-1.

Marseille had to wait until the 82nd minute to get their second as Kobenhavns Defence held tight, the goal coming from Romero. the last 8 minutes was very cagey and Marseille kept knocking but the Danes managed to hold on and secure a 3-2 victory away in France.

September Review

September has been a great month for all involved at FC Kobenhavn. The Lovernes (Lions) have risen to the top of the Danish Superliga after winning all 3 games in a convincing manner. Peter Schmeichel has been helped by the return to full fitness of record signing Andreas Cornelius and the recent form of loan signing Jesse Lingard.

Cornelius Brings Confidence

A spokesperson for Kobenhavn recently stated that the players have been buoyed by the energy and enthusiasm that Schmeichel has brought to the club.

The first game of September as reported last month was an amazing 4-1 away win against Viborg FF.

This was followed up with a confident 2-0 win over Esberg fB with Lingard bagging himself a brace.

Lingard In International Colours

Next up for Schmeichels boys was a visit from Odense Ballklub where Kobenhavn matched their previous result against Esberg with another 2-0 victory with a rare goal from Centre Back Kris Stadsgaard and an excellent solo effort from flambuoyent winger Rurik Gislason.

Stadsgaard Celbrates his Goal

The final match of September was against Archrivals Brondby a 2-1 win was the final score after Andreas Cornelius and new signing Thomas Drage scored for the visitors to give Schmeichel a perfect month as far as the league is concerned.

In between the vigours of the League Kobenhavn were in action in the Uefa Champions League away in France against Olympique De Marseille. It was remarkable match where Kobenhavn took a 3-0 lead after an own goal and goals from Jorgensen and Gislason. Marseille came back with 2 goals but Kobenhavn held on for the win.

Kobenhavn also had a Danish Cup 3rd Round games against Division 1 Minnows FC Frederica where Kobenhavn had to rely on a 8-7 penalty win although let it be noted that the Superliga Leaders did field a weakened team.
