Simeone Signs Extension

The Atletico Madrid board have announced that they have agreed a one year contract extension with current manager Diego Simeone. This news delighted supporters of the club as rumours suggested that Simeone was going to depart the club after a successful season.
The Argentine had two spells with Atletico as a player and represented his country 106 times. After last season Simeone has set the goal of achieving a top two finish and closing the gap on rivals Real and current champions Barcelona. The Atletico manager also wants to see his side compete with Europe's elite teams in the Champions League this season.
In a press conference Simeone expressed his delight with his extension say, "Atletico is a club close to my heart and I feel we have been in the shadow of our rivals for too long now so hopefully this year my team can perform to a high level and begin what we hope to be a successful time for this club." There is a month left for all the clubs to prepare for the new season and Atletico look like the team that could upset the Barcelona and Real dominance.
