Steam or standard version?

Hello,

after trying the demo version, I've decided to buy this game.
I see there are mainly two options: buy it on Steam (that is cheaper) or buy/download an "standard" copy.
How many of you play on Steam? What is the difference? What do you recommend me to buy?
