The Game

4 minutes into the game and Grimsby Town are already ahead. After some good play through midfield the ball was passed to Poole who took on 3 men before driving a low hard finish into the bottom corner.

Lincoln have had a chance to equalise Charlee Adams picks up the ball and slots it through to Fairhurst who skies it miles over. Grimsby nearly make it 2 after 30 minutes as Poole dribbles down the right wing pulls it back for Tounkara who shoots just wide. Tounkara misses another chance Poole again gets down the wing plays to Kerr who slots Tounkara through only for the striker to miss. Half Time Lincoln 0-1 Grimsby

Five minutes into the second half Grimsby double their lead McLaughlin plays an incisive ball through to Neilson who fires the ball into the net in front of the travelling supporters.

And it’s a quickfire double for Grimsby Hatton and Southwell who replaced Tounkara at half-time worked the ball done the line a cross from Hatton was met by Poole who headed it past the Lincoln keeper.

Lincoln were now getting more of the ball but had no major chances and Grimsby were content on the 3-0 scoreline. Full Time Lincoln 0-3 Grimsby

Overview

It was an easy success that we expected but the fact we beat our local rivals so easily and with such clinical finishing boosts my hope of a title challenge.

The Big Game: Lincolnshire Derby No2

Grimsby have come into this game after a comfortable victory over Macclesfield on Saturday. The two teams met just on boxing day in a game which Lincoln were comfortably defated 3-0 by Grimsby.

The game got off to a slow start with Grimsby on top. Possession has been dominated by Grimsby in the first half but Lincoln have just been holding on for a draw so far. Half Time 0-0.

Grimsby are now pushing further forward and that is why Lincoln have taken the lead. A fast counter attack was finished off in front of the away support sparking a minor pitch incursion. The equaliser has come. 68 minutes gone and Poole has scored. He works his way into the box and finishes in the bottom corner. It’s taken a long time but Grimsby lead on 88 minutes. A prolific counter attack was finished off by the brilliant James Poole for his second. It is three, Poole gets a hat-trick and all the Lincoln fans flow out of the ground. 4-1 and it’s Southwell.
