Malky Mackay quits Football

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has today decided to quit the job and football altogether so that he can pursue a better family life. Mackay guided Cardiff to promotion from the the Sky Bet Championship last season as they were crowned champions of the second tier.

Mackay said that he 'deeply regrets being forced into making this decision, but with two kids and my wife at home, I have to set my priorities straight. I would like to thank everyone at the club for my brilliant 2 years here. Most of all, I think that the fans were brilliant while I was here and I really can say that they are the main reason I have enjoyed the club so much over the past.'
Cardiff will now have to be on the lookout for a new manager, and former manager Dave Jones, who guided Cardiff to two successive play-off appearances, looks to be odds-on favourite to return. Other names thrown into the hat at the moment are Phil Neville, who has just started a coaching role at Manchester United, and Neil Warnock, who left Leeds earlier this year.
