Due to the lack of time between the departure of the manager and the start of the season, the President James Pallotta decided to give thirty-six year old Totti the job.
Totti, who has two years left on his player contract has been at the club since 1993 and is the clubs most capped player and largest goal scorer in the club's history. And it is this admirable devotion to the club that has perhaps earned him his first managerial role. He holds the record for having won 11 Oscar del calcio AIC, including five Italian Footballer of the Year awards, two Serie A Footballer of the Year awards, two Serie A goal of the year awards, one Serie A Goalscorer of the Year award and one Serie A Young Footballer of the Year award.
The forward also enjoyed an international career for Italy, earning fifty-eight caps and scoring nine goals.
"Sono molto orgoglioso di essere stato offerta la possibilità di gestire il club tengo tanto amore per. Farò del mio meglio per non alla tartara l'eredità che ho creato per me e per il mio club già. Grazie per il vostro continuo supporto." (I am very proud to have been offered the opportunity to manage the club I hold so much love for. I will try my hardest not to tarter the legacy I have created for both myself and my club already. Thank you for your continued support.)
Pundits around the world are backing Totti as perhaps being able to push Roma towards their first Serie A title lift since 2000-2001, as he will be able to captain the team both on and off the pitch.
