) has been named as the new Genk manager ahead of the upcoming 2013-14 season. After placing in fifth in the previous season, Genk looked elsewhere for managers, and with their primary target Rafael Benitez(
) happily managing Napoli they settled with Sven.Sven, who has enjoyed stints with international sides such as England, Mexico and the Ivory Coast as well as more recent journeys such as Manchester City and Leicester City was seen in the city of Genk a couple of days prior to the announcement, which sparked various rumours surrounding the club's future.
With Genk's success in the league only coming in three occasions, Sven-Göran Eriksson is tasked with turning Genk into a large European powerhouse with the ability to challenge the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.
