The Night Call

The next week Jason felt confident and really up to the challenge coming up. He was training hard and training well. The nerves of playing in Brazil had all gone and he was settling down in Ituano. All the press were focusing on 'the new hot talent', as they would call him. He never really listened to people linking him to bigger teams until one night he was woken by his phone ringing. "Who could be calling me at this hour?" Jason thought to himself as he reached over to answer his phone and was confused to hear Juni on the over side.

"Hi Jason, sorry about calling so late but it's urgent. I need to see you in my office now." Juni said quickly, as if he were in a rush.

"Why? It's 2 in the morning and we have training tomorrow." Jason said as he got out of bed and put his clothes on, trying not to wake his family.

"I can't tell you exactly why but I need you to come right away. There are people here to see you. I have sent a driver to pick you up and drive you here, no-one but us can know about this, you understand!" Juni said softly. "Everyone will become clear as soon as you get here."
And with this Juni hung up the phone. Jason was confused, ever since he joined Ituano he had never heard Juni like that. It was if he was as if he was being hurried. Jason ran out of the house and quickly spotted the car waiting for him outside his house and knew this was the driver, the rest of the street was empty. Jason ran over to the car and climbed in, it was a black BMW with tinted windows.

"What's going on here?" Jason asked the driver as the car drove off down the street. He was desperate to know why he had been dragged out of bed at 2 in the morning.

"I have been told I can't say." The driver answered in a slow, deep voice. Jason knew that he wasn't going to be able to get anything out of the driver so he sat back and looked out of the window, pondering on every possible scenario that would happen when he reached Juni.
Ooo, best of luck mate!

Jason Newell signs from Ituano

Youngster Jason Newell has signed a 3 year contract at Santos FC. He joins after impressing scouts who watched him during training and games. Jason scored 2 goals against Santos helping Ituano through to the Campeonato Paulista Final, where he scored a goal to clinch a draw against São Paulo in the first leg.

At his unveiling this morning, Jason stated: "I am delighted to have signed for such a prestigious club. I look forward to playing at the Vila Belmiro and pulling on the white. I hope to advance my career further by learning off experienced players and I hope to form new partnerships and I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead."

Head Coach Oswaldo de Oliveira stated: "I see talent in this boy. A lot of talent. He played against us in the cup and I couldn't help but just watch him and I told my scouts to watch him train with Ituano. The reports they brought back were intriguing and I knew that I had to look into bringing him to Santos and the game against São Paulo really cemented my interest. We then had to look into other teams that wanted him so I had to move fast and early this morning I set up a meeting with the Ituano president and Head Coach to complete the transfer."

It was thought that there were plenty of Brazilian clubs interested in signing Jason and there were also rumours of River Plate and Velez of Argentina looking into his signature, however Santos have managed to sneak through a deal through that will see the youngster start training with the team after his last match at Ituano against São Paulo in the Campeonato Paulista Final in 2 days time.
Nice, you'll play the final. kthxbai plugger

The Final

Jason woke up early on the day of the second leg of the final feeling both excited and sad. He was excited because it was the final, today he could become a champion. He was saddened, however, by the fact that this would be his final Ituano game. True he had only played 2 games for them beforehand but he felt that this was the team that gave him his opportunity and he owed them everything. But when Santos offered him a contract he knew he could not refuse. As he got ready he realised that he wanted to pull of the best performance yet and he really had the desire to do so, he wanted to give Ituano something before he left.

As he walked into the changing rooms he received a warm welcome with teammates patting him on the back and congratulating him on his move, this was strange to Jason. He expected everyone to be annoyed at him moving but everyone seemed to be happy for him. As he got changed he tried to wipe the idea of this being his last game for Ituano out of his mind and as he stepped out onto the pitch he was more focused than ever.

Ituano FC lift the Campeonato Paulista on home turf

The first goal took a matter of minutes after a good passing move by Ituano lead to the ball being took down on the wing by outgoing Jason Newell. He took the ball and glided past 3 São Paulo players before passing out wide. A cross was hit straight back in to the box and Newell made a run to the back post to head it past the keeper. Ituano kept hold of possession well and had a chance to make it two just before half-time when São Paulo goalkeeper Ceni brought Ituano striker Marcelinho down in the box. Jason Newell stepped up and smashed it into the bottom right corner, the keeper guessed the correct way but couldn't get close enough to the ball. São Paulo came out in the second half the better side and finally brought one back when Osvaldo managed to poke the ball in from 2 yards out after a shot by Luis Fabiano was parried straight to him. São Paulo put a lot of pressure onto Ituano in the closing minutes but the game was rounded off with a hat-trick from Newell after a counter-attack fell to him on the half-way line. He ran to the goal with no defenders around him and he powered it past Ceni.
