In a battle of first vs last were able to turn our 6 point lead over Napoli into 9 points as Rafa Benitez's team suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Sampdoria. Palermo set up to defend but good work from Candreva allowed Cavanda to score a well placed finish just before half time.

German legend Miroslav Klose doubled our lead in the 69th minute with a simple tap in after good work from Tom Ince. Meanwhile Champions Juventus hammered AC Milan 4-1 as Antonio Conte looks to get the Turin powerhouse back on track.

1st place went up against 4th place in a real end to end in encounter that was a marvellous advert for Italian football. It only took Klose 4 minutes to open the scoring but fellow German Mario Gomez equalized 3 minutes later with a carbon copy header. Thiago Motta then hit a belting drive from 18 yards to beat Neto in the Viola goal to send the Biancocelesti in with a 2-1 lead at half time.

Fiorentina came right out the blocks in the second half as American born Giuseppe Rossi tied the game up with 4 minutes of the half played. Like an inverted version of the first period, Lazio equalized with Englishman Tom Ince slipping passed 2 defenders and drilling a finish through Neto's legs.

Fiorentina searched for an equalizer but with dying seconds left, Lazio won a corner which was attacked by Klose who could only head the ball into the knee of captain Ambrosini. The former Milan hardman could only divert the ball passed his own goalkeeper to make sure that the Roman club secured all 3 points.

Roma manager Rudi Garcia was sacked following the humiliating defeat against fierce rivals Lazio. Roma had no answer to the current league leaders and looked completely lost on the pitch as they allowed six goals in Roma's worst ever result in a Rome derby.

Ashley Cole immediately opened the scoring with a simple tap in after good work from Ince. Tom Ince set-up another when his drilled ball into the box found Candreva unmarked to make it two with 18 minutes on the clock.

The real humiliation began after half time as Candreva found Bonera charging forward from a corner. The Milan loanee leapt highest to put the Biancocelesti into a demanding lead. It was then Klose's turn to get in on the act as the German made it 4 with a simple turn and finish into De Santis' net.

As Roma fans filtered out of the stadium, Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan got one back for the home team but that cushion only lasted 5 minutes as Ince found Candreva again who swept home the cross to make it 5-1. Klose really rubbed salt into the wounds as the former Bayern star powered home a header above the lacklustre Roma centre backs to make the final score 6-1.

Roma were well beaten and the club announced instantly that Rudi Garcia would not be attending the post match interviews and would be sacked with immediate effect.

Verona have had a solid first season back in Serie A and sit 11th in the table as Lazio looked to keep the chasing pack at bay. Napoli could only tie 0-0 at relegation threatened Latina, while Juventus, who have now taken 2nd place lost 2-1 at Cagliari.

Verona had recorded some good results against teams in the top 10 this year but were powerless to stop Lazio as they bulldoze towards their first Scudetto in 14 years. Antonio Candreva played a clever diagonal cross-field ball to Tom Ince that the Englishman took from under his feet and buried from 12 yards out to give the Biancocelesti the lead. Verona were only dangerous through Juan Iturbe and had no answer to the rock solid centre back team of Bonera, Darmian and Bellsuci.

With 12 minutes left on the clock Lazio found the net again as Candreva notched his customary goal. Lazio now sit 11 points clear of Juventus as we enter the final stretch of games in Serie A.

18th place Genoa were apparently confident heading into the game with the league leaders as manager Gian Piero Gasperini told the media that his side had "nothing to fear" and that "Lazio were not where they were on merit." How the Grifoni boss feel about those comments following a 4-0 hammering at home are obvious.

Genoa looked lost of ideas as they continuously attempted to lump the ball up to top scorer Alberto Gilardino, but to no avail. Antonio Candreva hammered home a curving beauty in the 27th minute to give the Biancocelesti the lead with Klose scoring a penalty just before half time following a clumsy challenge by former Lazio man Matuzalem.

With 5 minutes on the clock, Lazio killed the game with two quickfire goals. Ince hammering home on the volley from a corner and Ignazio Abate scoring his first goal for the club with a composed finish when one on one with youngster Mattia Perin.

Juve and Napoli maintained the gap between the leaders with 4-2 and 1-0 wins respectively.


A great month with no slip ups and solid defending is exactly what we needed in the run up to the end of the season. I can't quite believe that we have done so well this season, as I actually earmarked my third year with Lazio to be the year that I moulded a team capable of winning Serie A. We now find ourselves 11 points clear of Juventus and 12 points clear of Napoli with 7 games to play.

It is not the end of the month just yet as we do have one more game in March. It is a massive tie as we welcome 2nd place and current Champions Juventus to the Olimpico. A win might well mean that we have one hand on the Serie A trophy as we can potentially enter April 14 points clear.


It was very close between Ince and Abate but Tom has been a contender for player of the month every single month this season. I can not say that for any other player, including Candreva and Klose. He fully deserves the recognition and was our best player this period, with 3 goals and 7 assists in 5 games.

With the form he has been in so far in his first year at Lazio I fully expect him to make his England debut soon and be part of the World Cup squad. There has been talk in the media that Ince is the frontrunner for Serie A Foreign Player of The Year, with a nominees list that includes Klose, Tevez, Llorente, Iturbe and Ashley Cole.

Lazio have one hand on the Serie A trophy as they beat current Champions Juventus 3-0 to go 14 points clear in the title race with 6 games remaining.

What a difference a month makes... At the end of February, Lazio had just beaten 2nd placed Napoli to go 6 points ahead of Rafa Benitez's side. Now a month later and five games on they sit 14 points clear and are set to take their first Serie A title since 2000.

Matt Cox's team knew that a win would put them in the driving seat as Napoli could only draw earlier on in the afternoon and the Englishman's team started at a frightening pace as they attacked and looked to dominate straight from kick-off. Antonio Conte had set his team up to pack the midfield and shackle the creativeness of Lazio's wingers, but that wasn't to be as Antonio Candreva shook off the presence of Mauricio Isla and powered into the Juve half, brushing off Ogbonna and whipping in a deadly ball that was to tempting for Miroslav Klose to resist as the German knocked the ball past Buffon to give the league leaders the advantage.

Juventus struggled to get the ball forward to Tevez and Llorente as they were constricted by their defensive set-up. Lazio continued to look comfortable as the 34 year old captain Stefano Mauri picked out his teammates with ease and made the Old Lady's defence work. Ince and Candreva stretched the fullbacks with mazy dribbles and bursts of speed as Mauri created opportunities and Motta aggressively worked to break down any Juve attacks. The Lazio machine was smoothly working as they forced Buffon into a flurry of good saves.

After half time the game remained balanced and Juventus had their only chance of the game. Kwadwo Asamoah lining up a long range effort and ballooning his shot well over the target. With 15 minutes to go, Conte changed his tactics in order to find the equalizer, this suited Cox's team perfectly as they carved open the Turin club with ease with two quick-fire sucker punches.

The first was on a break as Vidal probed forward and was dispossessed by Motta. The former PSG man launched a through ball to the charging Abate who outmuscled Ogbonna to give himself a glimpse of goal. The Azzurri wing back then rifled a shot past the Gigi Buffon to kill the Juve fightback.

The third came 3 minutes later as Lazio probed the Juve back-line following good hold up play by Klose. The German played the ball back to Thiago Motta who smashed a first time pile-driver into the corner of an unsighted Buffon's net.

The win shows how much Lazio have come on in such a short space of time from the Italian Super Cup loss to Juventus at the start of the season. Cox has transformed the Roman club this season and has the reputation as one of the worlds top young managers. Rumours have already begun that he will be offered a post with a bigger club this summer with Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus apparently interested in his signature.

Juventus were unable to recover from their beating by Matt Cox's men and fell to a home defeat at the hands of struggling Chievo meaning should Lazio beat AC Milan then they would be Serie A Champions. However following the Roman club's impressive display against Juventus, the Biancocelesti were unable to secure the title against Edy Reja's Milan as they fell to their second loss of the season.

It was one of the first games in memory that Lazio did not dominate this season as Milan looked comfortable on the ball against a complacent opponent. Matri squandered a clear chance to score but hit his effort straight at Federico Marchetti. Candreva then had an opportunity to open the scoring but blazed his free kick well over from close range.

Finally on 68 minutes, Mario Balotelli was given to much time in the area and neatly placed a composed finish into the far corner of Marchetti's net. Lazio rallied but were unable to find an equalizer meaning now a win over Sassuolo next week in Rome would secure the Serie A title for the Biancocelesti.

We went into this game knowing that whatever Juventus or Napoli's result, it did not matter as long as we won. It would mean we are champions. We started on the front foot with no signs of nerves and tested Pegolo in the Sassuolo goal with a handful of long range shots. Eventually the pressure tolled and my fellow countryman Ashley Cole gave us the lead. My first goal as Lazio manager came from Englishman Tom Ince, and the goal that won me my first title came from Englishman Ashley Cole. Cole had time 25 yards out on the left, the former Arsenal man took one touch and then hit a swerving shot that dipped at the last second and made the net stretch. The Lazio fans went in to raptures as we took the lead and I tried to calm the lads down. 'Concentrate, nothing silly. Let's get this done today and in front of our fans.'

Straight from kick off we attacked again, Candreva dispossessing Peluso and charging at goal. The Azzurri winger held off Cannavaro and drilled his shot into the stanch to make it 2-0. We didn't take our foot off the gas and 8 minutes later had another. Candreva again tapping in from a clever through ball from Klose.

My players ran to me and a mass pile on ensued. I did it, I won the league.

Despite now being Serie A Champions we had to maintain focus as the Italian Cup Final was on the horizon. I wanted to keep the winning mentality going and not throw our concentration.

We did our job professionally against a Parma side who sit 17th with relegation lurking over their shoulder. With it being 0-0 at half time, we came out of the blocks firing as Klose won a penalty in the 48th minute. The German legend brushed himself down and fired the ball passed Antonio Mirante to give us the lead.

Tom Ince doubled our advantage with a cut in from the left wing and curling a shot into the far corner. Another fine solo goal from the former Crystal Palace winger. Klose finished the scoring and wrapped the game up in the 89th minute. Parma looked like they had lost all faith and we literally walked the ball through the Crociati defence. Ince put the ball on a plate for Klose and the former Bayern man made it three.

I rested some of the first teamers this week for the home game against Cagliari with the Cup Final in mind coming up later in the month. We took the lead 20 minutes in when Uruguayan winger Alvaro Gonzalez got on the scoresheet after some hard work in the opposition half. The wideman won the ball back before powering through the defence to score and give us the advantage.

Ignazio Abate scored his 3rd goal of the season with a smart finish three minutes later. The former Milan man cut in from the right and was given space and time to curl a shot into the far corner with the outside of his boot.

Colombian Victor Ibarbo pulled one back but it was merely a consolation for Cagliari. The excruciatingly fast winger who is attracting interest from Inter, Roma and Barcelona won't have harmed his case with a brilliant goal against the Champions. Ibarbo picked the ball up in his own half, powered through the Lazio team at a frightening pace and thundered a strike into the roof of the net.

We kept up are professionalism against Atalanta with a hard fought victory. We took the lead when Tom Ince was brought down by 17 year old Mario Pugliese in the box. Klose stepped up to fire in the penalty and make it 1-0. Atalanta equalized soon after through Cristian Raimondi who scored a fine header after good work from Giacomo Bonaventura.

After the restart we took the advantage again as Colombian stalwart Mario Yepes turned Antonio Cnadreva's cross into his own net. Only for Argentinian striker Germain Denis to equalize 10 minutes later with a cooly taken finish under pressure from Lorik Cana.

We finally grafted a winner through English livewire Tom Ince. Ince managed to react quickly to some complacency in the Atalanta penalty area and get on the end of a loose ball and slot home a winner before any of the opponents defenders could make a clearance.

In our final game of the Serie A season I made 9 changes to the starting XI in order to give some fringe players and youngsters a chance in the first team. This included 15 year old 'wonderkid' Diego Pertusio (Regen) on the left wing. The only remaining starters were Antonio Candreva and Miroslav Klose, this is because both players stand on 24 goals each in Serie A so I gave them the chance to claim the Serie A Golden Boot for themselves.

The news came through that Mario Balotelli had scored a hat trick in his teams final game against Chievo putting the extrovert Italian on 24 goals - the same as Klose and Candreva.

In a scrappy game it seemed like most of the players were already away on the post season holidays but in the 79th minute Miroslav Klose played a fantastic through ball to Candreva who buried the chance to make it 1-0. The two top marksmen embraced and celebrated the goal together which guarenteed the Azzurri winger the Golden Boot.


Well we did it... We won the Serie A. I am over the moon and will be keeping this review short as I will give an End of Season Summary after the Italian Cup Final has been played and my players prepare for holiday or World Cup duty.

We played fantastically over April and the week in May and our sheer will and passion got us through the big games and the tight situations and it was crucial that we kept our winning mentality in the run up to the big final with Juventus. I am so proud of my players and they all played magnificently.


The whole team deserves it this month. In the final run up to the Serie A title they stuck together and did not get complacent. Every player pitched in and was counted for and they are now the Champions of Italy to prove it.

Cox masterminds League and Cup double

Matt Cox has completed a famous league and cup double in his first year with Lazio.

Lazio fans lined the streets of Rome tonight and will celebrate long into the night as the Rome based club won the Italian Cup in extra time vs Juventus. Not only did the Biancocelesti triumph in one competition, but two, as they also finished top of Serie A by 17 points.

In a tight and even final, it was Lazio who looked the most likely to snatch a winner but Italian Gianluigi Buffon kept his side in it with a compilation of world-beating saves. The Juve captain denied Candreva, Klose and Ince on several occasions in an attempt to spoil Lazio's party in their own stadium.

With the game heading to extra time it looked like no team would find a way through and penalties were inevitable as both teams looked exhausted in the Italian season curtain closer. However Serie A Player of the Year favourite Antonio Candreva had other ideas and the 29 goal winger got number 30 of the season with a calm finish into the net when one-on-one with Buffon. The Lazio coaching staff, playing staff and fans erupted as their team took the lead and looked set to win another trophy in the space of 2 weeks.

However Federico Marchetti in the Lazio goal had to be alert as Carlos Tevez was sent through on goal in the 119th minute. The Azzurri stopper produced a match-winning save to preserve Lazio's lead and their victory on a night that no Biancocesti fan will ever forget.

Highly rated manager Matt Cox was covered in champagne, but told Sky Sports that he was ecstatic with win: "I'm so proud of these players. I came in this season and wanted to build a team who could learn my system and my ethics and eventually challenge for honours. They've been so professional and done it at the first time of asking. They're a great bunch of lads and deserve their success."

Juventus manager Antonio Conte said he was proud of his players this season and announced he will be leaving the club by mutual consent: "I spoke with the chairman and told him I have gone as far as I can with this group of players. We have achieved many things but you can only go so far. Mr Agnelli understands but wanted me to stay but I feel it is time for somebody else to try and take this great club to the next level."

Speculation is mounting that Juventus may attempt to bring in Matt Cox, but the current bookies favourites are former Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri and ex Man City boss Roberto Mancini.

I stood in the dugout and checked my watch, 120 minutes and 35 seconds... finally the sound of the referee's whistle pierced the air to the relief of 80,000+ people in the Stadio Olimpico. The crowd erupted as my players ran past me onto the pitch. My assistant Angelo Peruzzi was in front of me screaming Italian in my face, smiling and tearful, he hugged me hard and ran onto the field to join the players.

I turned to face my opposite number, a dejected looking Antonio Conte. Conte managed to shoot a smile my way as I approached him. "Great game my friend, Buffon was terrific tonight." I said with a hint of sympathy as I shook the Juventus manager's hand. "You deserved it Matt, your team wanted it more and I applaud you for a fantastic season." There were bright beams of light erupting from all corners of the stadium as the Lazio fans set off flares to celebrate our victories, the league and cup, I had pulled it off.

My two English players Ashley Cole and Tom Ince were sprinting towards me with their hands above their heads shouting. The two men hugged me as William Tillson draped 3 England flags over our shoulders. I proceeded to join my players on the pitch, consoling the disheartened Juventus players as I went. My team were huddled in front of the Lazio fans and turned towards me as I approached them. They ran and hoisted me into the air, spraying me with champagne as I was tossed around like a rag-doll, the noise was deafening but it was perfect.

The families of the players joined us on the pitch to celebrate our accomplishments before we were instructed to gather in the centre of the pitch by an Italian FA official. The squad, the coaching staff and myself were garnished with winners medals and the Coppa Italia and Serie A trophies were brought towards us. I clutched the league trophy as my captain Stefano Mauri hoisted the TIM Coppa Italia prize above his head, as every Lazio fan in Rome erupted in delight.

Reporter: Congratulations on your success this season and being voted Serie A Manager of the Year and Serie A Manager's Manager of the Year.

Cox: Thank you, I am so proud of my team and extremely honoured to be voted manager of the year by my colleagues and piers.

Reporter: It has been a dream season for you and Lazio, how would you rate this year?

Cox: I could not have asked for more from my team. My plan was always to push for a Champions League spot and be competitive in all competitions we were part of. I certainly did not see us winning Serie A with a comfortable 17 point cushion. My players have played out of their skins and should be proud of their achievements. My coaching staff are a huge part of our success also, it could not have been done without them.

Reporter: Do you feel you can repeat this feat next season?

Cox: I have no doubts that we can go on and be a real force for a long time to come. We will have to add more depth to our squad for the upcoming Champions League campaign but our priority will be to retain the Serie A and Coppa Italia.

Reporter: There are reports that Juventus are in talks over a contract with you, can you confirm or deny these rumours?

Cox: There has been no contact from Juventus of any kind. I understand Conte has left the club and rumours sell newspapers but no. I can confirm that Juventus have not approached me.

Reporter: How about CSKA Moscow?

Cox: Sorry?

Reporter: The CSKA Moscow job is available and reports in Russia say that they are keen to bring you in.

Cox: I have no even heard that one. Look if there is any movement or speculation it will come from the club. I have no plans to leave Lazio. The president has put his faith in me and I am keen to repay it.

Reporter: Can you comment on the situations regarding Stefano Mauri's contract and Daniele Bonera? Will you bring him in permanently from Milan?

Cox: I sat down with the players whose deals needed renewing in March and as you know we came to agreements over extensions for Klose, Candreva and Cole. We could not come to an agreement with Mauri but I continue to discuss options with our captain to find an outcome that suits both parties. As for Daniele it remains to be seen what we do. He has had a fantastic season with us and I am baffled that he did not make the Italian World Cup squad. I will sit down with the president and see what funds we have available.

Reporter: Do you feel you can keep hold of Candreva after his standout season?

Cox: Antonio has had the season of his life and it is only natural that other teams are interested in him. However he knows that this club is growing and the fans here love him. He is settled and a leader of our team so I do not see why he would want to leave. I'm sure teams will enquire about him and every player has his price, but his will be very high.

Perfect season. You could not have done it better .. hope to see some good results in the Champions League !

Looking back on my first season in charge of a professional team, things could not have gone better. I moulded a team I deemed capable of challenging the big names in Italy in an attempt to finish in the top 3. We went better and ended up Serie A Champions with a 17 point gap over 2nd placed Napoli, and a 24 point gap between us and former Champions Juventus.

Not only did we beat last season's Champions to our first Scudetto since 2000. We beat them 3 times out of the 4 times we faced them. Below are the 10 key games that defined our season.

Chievo 2-3 Lazio - My first game in charge of Lazio and the start of our journey to the title.

Lazio 2-0 Inter - The first victory over one of the major Italian powers.

Lazio 2-0 Roma - A derby win that fuelled our passion and won over the fans.

Juventus 0-1 Lazio - A professional display to beat the current Champions to make people take our title challenge seriously.

Lazio 2-1 AC Milan - Another win over a major Italian power, proving out credentials.

Inter 2-3 Lazio - A win where we needed to come from behind and show we could win ugly - a sign of champions.

Napoli 0-3 Lazio - The result that gave us a 6 point cushion in Serie A, we never looked back...

Roma 1-6 Lazio - A crushing victory over our rivals that got the manager sacked, giving Lazio fans everywhere incredible bragging rights over Rome.

Lazio 3-0 Juventus - A victory that showed Juventus had given up hope. They slumped to 3 straight defeats after the loss.

Lazio 3-0 Sassuolo - The win that meant the title was coming back to Lazio for the first time in 14 years.

After a successful year I was approached by AC Milan and Juventus. I talked to some of you on here and we debated what would be the right decision and after careful deliberation I have decided to stay on and guide Lazio in the Champions League next year. AC Milan have brought in extrovert coach, Zdenek Zeman in to replace Edy Reja and Juventus have appointed Arsene Wenger as manager. Which breaks my heart being an Arsenal fan.

Lazio agree new £120million sponsorship deal with Enel

Italian electricity company Enel have agreed a 3 year deal with Lazio to become the current Coppa Italia & Serie A Champion's official sponsor.

The deal will pocket the Rome based club £40million per season and will place the deal as one of the top 10 most lucrative sponsorship agreements in Football history.

Enel have never sponsored a sports team before and it is believed that with Lazio's increased popularity due to their recent success that now is the best time to invest with the club in which it shares the city.

The organization is Italy’s largest power company, and Europe’s second listed utility by installed capacity. It is an integrated player, active in the power and gas sectors. Enel operates in more than 40 countries worldwide, has around 95,000 MW of net installed capacity and sells power and gas to more than 61 million customers.

Lazio have a deal with Italian kit manufacturers Macron that runs until the 2016/17 season and the club's new kits are expected to be unveiled this week.
