In my game my assisten often tells me that our crossing isn`t working at the moment. My question is what do I have to do... to make that crossing work? 10q
It's best to watch the games to see what the cause of the problem is. Take my advice with a grain of salt, as I definitely don't consider myself an expert. These are some of the things I do, however, and it's worked well for me.
*Do you have players availble to cross to? If not, maybe look at having more players on forward runs to provide more targets.
*Where are you trying to cross from? Maybe you need to set the crossing distance further/shorter to better match where you have crossing targets.
*Are the players that are attempting the passes rated well enough in crossing/creativity/etc? If not, maybe they're trying ill-advised passes.
The attacking style I play typically plays out like this:
*DMC set to hold the ball collects the ball and feeds it to my playmaker MC. This MC is set to run forward often so he usually spearheads my attack. The MC typically attacks from his side of the field and crosses it into the 6 yard box to plenty of targets. As he stages the attack, I have two STs (FCa and FCd) and an MC roaming around the box.
Another option is my FCd, also set to hold the ball, provides another option on the other side of the pitch. If he initiates the attack, I have my FCa and two MCs available as crossing options around the box.
In both of these scenarios, my central MC (the MCd) joins in on the attack pretty late most of the time, providing a last second option for a pass. He usually doesn't do much other than recycle/reset the attack, although he does have plenty of chances at long shots. All told, I typically have 3 or 4 passing options when I'm playing on my normal/conservative tactics.
When I'm playing more aggressively, my two FBs push up pretty far and they sometimes initiate the attack. In this scenario, I have 4 or 5 passing options in the final third.
