Johnson ready for the 2014/15 Season

Oldham Manager confident new season can bring new talent and success
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oldham Athletic Manager Lee Johnson recently told the press that his Oldham side are ready to take on the new season and want to achieve promotion.

Johnson, 33, took over the League One side on the 18th March 2014, and quickly lifted Oldham out of the relegation zone and left them in a good position. Johnson then signed many players that influenced Oldham's side in the latter season, with the likes of James Dayton, Korey Smith and Sidney Schmeltz joining the League One side. Johnson managed to get the League One side to 15th in the table last season, the best finish since the 08/09 season under John Sheridan.

Johnson: 'I believe that my team can achieve promotion this season. Oldham Athletic is a great club with a massive history, and my team has been working hard since the end of the last season to hone their skills. I understand that the fans want Oldham to do well, and I assure them that we will be working dusk till dawn, 24/7 to try and achieve a great future for Oldham Athletic.'

Oldham Captain Korey Smith also sat down with Johnson to answer questions.

Smith: 'I can add to the fact that we have been working hard to achieve our goals. Although we get frustrated with each other throughout the season and start hating each others guts, we soon anxiously want to get back and see everyone again, and that makes a brilliant team, in my opinion.'

Oldham Athletic's pre-season begins with a friendly match against Paul Dickov's Doncaster Rovers' side, which includes memorable Oldham faces like Dean Furman, and the manager himself being a former Oldham Manager and player.

Both kits are to be used for Pre-season friendlies, and will be replaced by sleeker, fancier kits for the actual season.

Oldham Athletic vs. Oldham Under 21s

Oldham Athletic showed their superiority in a 1-0 victory over the Oldham Under 21s earlier this evening at Boundary Park, but could've and should've scored more than they had.

Oldham Athletic finally took the lead in the 64th minute when James Dayton scored a poorly-struck effort inside the box, skidding the ball past Oldham Under 21s' Keeper Dean Codman with little hassle.

Oldham had a number of attempts on goal, but their profligacy meant they didn't score as many times as they would've liked to.

Latics defeated

Despite battling hard, Oldham Athletic were unable to prevent a superior Doncaster Rovers team coming away from Boundary Park with a 3-4 victory.

Experienced Striker Charlie MacDonald got Oldham Athletic off to a flyer with a deftly-executed finish after just one minute. Doncaster striker Billy Sharp then equalized in the 2nd minute with a good header from the six-yard box.

An error from Oldham's Genséric Kusunga allowed striker Chris Brown to score an accurate shot that bounced in off the post. Oldham's equalizer came through Danny Philliskirk as he seized on Gabriel Tama?' mistake to score a freak goal. Striker Theo Robinson then put Doncaster Rovers back in front after 56 minutes with a long range shot.

Striker David Cotterill then added to the lead with a lucky strike on 60 minutes. Young midfielder Kirk Millar gave Oldham a glimmer of hope after 79 minutes with a tap-in goal.

Oldham complete Hancox Loan Deal

Birmingham's Mitch Hancox has joined Oldham Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

Hancox has already made 19 appearances for his club and is thought to be held in high regard by the coaching staff at St. Andrews.

Oldham Athletic's supporter spokesperson Matt Harrington has revealed that the fans are pleased to have acquired a player of Hancox's calibre and hope that his experience with bigger clubs serves well.

Oldham hammer Macclesfield

Oldham Athletic enjoyed near total domination over a distinctly average Macclesfield Town side at the Moss Rose this afternoon. A brace from striker Jonson Clarke-Harris helped Oldham achieve victory.

Young striker Jonson Clarke-Harris gifted Oldham the lead with a well-timed finish from close range in the 23rd minute. Striker Kirk Millar doubled Oldham Athletic's lead with a poorly struck effort on 48 minutes.

Clarke-Harris completed the rout on 51 minutes with a fine header from point-blank range. Macclesfield Town were nearly gifted a goal in the 77th minute by John Pritchard's lapse of concentration but they failed to capitalize on the opportunity given to them.

Oldham Manager discusses Pre-season results

Oldham Athletic Manager Lee Johnson attended the Stevenage pre-match press conference, where he answered questions from different reporters and pundits.

Johnson: 'During our pre-season, I believe I know what team I want to play and what members of my team have performed well. All the players that I play have earned their chances and will play accordingly to what I believe they are good at.'

When asked about Adam Lockwood's new vice-captain role, Johnson chuckled.

Johnson: 'Adam Lockwood is definitely a locker room leader. He deserves to have the captain's armband because of his loyalty and vast playing experience.'

Boro win battle of Broadhall Way
