Arsene Wenger Resigns

Arsene Wenger has announced his decision to depart Arsenal after 17 years in charge. He had many successful years during his time at the club, however the last 8 years has seen the club fail to bring in silverware along with selling key players to rival clubs.

Arsene took the decision to resign as he feels he is failing the club and it's fans, due to not bringing any success in the last 8 years other than securing champions league qualification every year. Which in part has seen several key players leave to chase silverware at rival clubs.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that who ever replaces Wenger will be willing to splash the cash and bring in some quality signings, with the hope of not having to wait yet another year to claim some silverware.
Good luck !

Good morning sports fans,
We can now bring you more news on the story from last night, regarding Arsenal finding their successor for the departed Arsene Wenger.
Wenger who unexpectedly resigned at 9pm yesterday evening after 17 years at the club, left most Arsenal fans worrying as pre season is about to start and with no manager and a distinct lack of transfer speculation surrounding player movements to Arsenal. The Arsenal faithful feel like their in for another long and unsuccessful season.

But as we reported last night it seems the Arsenal board had more of an idea than the fans about the departure of Wenger, and we can now announce that at 10am today Arsenal F.C will be holding a press conference to announce their new man.
We are led to believe that it's a former Arsenal player who has legendary status at the club, and it's got everyone talking.Who could it possibly be?

We will be back at 10 to bring you live coverage of that press conference.

Morning Sports fans
As promised earlier we will take you straight over to the emirates stadium for the live press conference.

Arsenal F.C have confirmed Former Gunner Tony Adams as their new manager following the departure of Arsene Wenger yesterday evening, on an initial 1 year deal.

The Former Arsenal and England international, Adams spent his entire playing career of 22 years as a defender at Arsenal between 1980-2002. He won four top flight division titles, three FA Cups, two Football League Cups, a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, and three FA Community Shields.

Following his playing career, Adams went on to manage firstly at Wycombe wanderers in November 2003, he only lasted 1 year at the club before he resigned. In 2006 he was appointed assistant manager of Portsmouth working under Harry Redknapp. He later became the manager following Redknapp's departure in October 2008, but this wasn't for long as he was sacked the following February after a poor run of results.
In May 2010, Adams signed a three-year contract to manage Azerbaijani club Gabala FC of the Azerbaijan Premier League. He departed as coach of Gabala on 16 November 2011, before the end of the 2011–12 season.

In a statement Adams has expressed his delight at being appointed saying 'I promise the club and its loyal fans, that I will spend big to bring in the quality that this team has been lacking in recent years. And we will win silverware very soon.'

Good afternoon sports fans, we have some exciting transfer news to bring you, so we will head straight over to the emirates stadium to Nick Collins who will give us an update on the current situation.

'Afternoon Nick, what can you tell us about the potential signings heading to Arsenal that we are hearing about.'
'Well Ed I can tell you its not just a case of potential signings. New manager Tony Adams has acted fast and done as he promised in his press conference earlier in the week, signing no fewer than three new players.'

'Wow three new player, the most important thing Nick is are the Arsenal fan going to be pleased with the players Adams has brought in'

'I think they will be more than happy Ed, as hes looked at exactly what the team has been missing over the last few years and acted on it.'

'The first signing being 26 year old French international Blaise Matuidi.' Matuidi a central midfielder signed for £4.4m from French outfit PSG is described as a ''fierce and strong tackler'' and will no doubt be filling that defensive midfield void that most fans will say has never been filled since Patrick Vieira left the club.

'The second player entering the emirates is 24 year old Serb centre back Neven Subotic.' Subotic has signed from Borussia Dortmund for a reported £8.25m fee, the young Serb will have been signed as a rotational player with the aim of eventually replacing the aging Mertesacker.

'The final player coming in is 22 year old Italy international Lorenzo Insigne.' Insigne has signed from Napoli for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £14m. The exciting young attacking midfielder looks to have been sign to allow Theo Walcott to push for his favoured role of the lead striker.

'That's all from me, back to you at the studio Ed.'
Pre-Season

With his new signings arriving in time to start pre-season training, new Arsenal manager Tony Adams must have been looking for a relatively easy set of fixtures so that his team could building on fitness maybe with a few challenges thrown in to test the team in preparation for the up and coming campaign.

And he wasn't to be let down as he was provided with a steady stream of fixtures against relatively weak teams, but with the surprise of fixtures against new signing Subotic's old club Dortmund and Barcelona which would give Adams something to think about.

Adams is expected to try out a few different options for the upcoming fixture, most notably his decision to try Theo Walcott out as a lone striker, with young Insigne likely to fill the void left by Walcott on the wing.

There was to be no surprises from the fixtures against the weaker teams that Arsenal came up against, but the defeats against Dortmund and Barcelona will leave Arsenal fans wondering if this will be another season were they fail to beat the teams they are challenging for the title with.
Adams however was only really concerned with seeing how his new signings fitted into his plans, and how Walcott adapted to his new role and he wasn't to be disappointed with either.

Although new signing Insigne pre-season was cut short when he was substituted due to an injury against Cliftonville. Which will be a massive disappointment to Arsenal fans as they wont get to see their new man in action until November at the earliest.
August

Season opener against Southampton provided arsenal fans with some opening day cheer with a comfortable 2-0 win with Podolski and Cazorla grabbing two quick 2nd half goals.

Arsenal then travelled to Austria to face RB Salzburg in the Champions League Qualifier with Adams deciding to give Walcott a try in the lone striker role that he craves. Arsenal were slow out the blokes falling behind after 9 minutes, but Arsenal responded immediately with Walcott levelling things a minute later, before Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a goal either side of half time to give Arsenal a comfortable 3-1 lead for the home leg.

Arsenal then travelled west to Wales were they faced the attack minded outfit that is Swansea. And Arsenal fell behind after just 3 minutes to a Wilfred Bony strike, with Adams obviously needing to get a grip with his players who have conceded 2 quick goals in consecutive matches after failing to switch on in the opening minutes. Adams's men failed to get back in the game with a very poor performance across the board.

Arsenal fans were then expecting a much better performance in their 2nd leg qualifier against the travelling Austrians, and they weren't disappointed although it did take a surprise goal from young Rb Carl Jenkinson in the 54 minute to get things rolling, before Podolski and Walcott playing in the striker role again settled things to secure a 6-1 agg win. One negative came out of this game with New signing Subotic Coming off injured in the 80th minute with a pulled hamstring putting him out of action for 3 weeks.

Champions League Group Stage Draw

After qualifying for the Champions League proper, with a 6-1 agg win over RB Salzburg, Arsenal were given a some would say easy draw in group D against Portuguese side P.Ferreira, Russian's Zenith St Petersburg and their biggest challenge is against Dortmund who can boast a pre-season win over Arsenal.

English clubs also representing the Premiership in this seasons draw are Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City with all 3 teams likely to progress from their respective groups.
Really enjoying this so far. Will be interested to see how the season progresses

September

September saw Arsenal open there account in the champions league group stage,a 3rd round tie against Swansea in the carling cup and 4 league games that could push them towards the top of the league early on in the campaign.

Arsenal hosted West Ham at the Emirates on the 1st September, and the first half saw a steady game from Arsenal who broke the deadlock through a Lukas Podolski strike in the 38 min. The 2nd half saw much more of the same from Arsenal with Santi Cazorla slotting a 2nd home after 2 mins, from then on West Ham were blown back and Podolski provided Arsenal fans with a master class scoring 2 quick goals in the 61 and 68 min earning him the match ball and his team a 4-0 win.

Liverpool were next, with a trip up to Anfield being the first real challenge for Adams since his appointment at the club and it was a fairly boring match seeing both teams happy to sit back on a 1-1 draw to take a point, Podolski scoring for Arsenal.

It was then off to Portugal to face P.Ferreira in the opening game of the group, Arsenal completely dominated heading into the half time break 4-0 up thanks to Podolski, Cazorla and a Giroud brace. Arsenal relaxed in the 2nd half conceding a late consolation goal finishing the game 4-1.

Arsenal then hosted Villa in a close encounter which saw villa have 2 goals disallowed in the last 5 mins. Securing a tight 2-1 victory for the Arsenal Ozil and Podolski the scorers.

Then it was for the 3rd rnd of the Carling cup with Arsenal looking for revenge over Swansea for the defeat last month and they didn't fail to provide with a comfortable 2-0 win with new signing Subotic and Oxlade-Chamberlain grabbing the goals.

Arsenal then travelled to Newcastle hoping to round of a good month with another 3 points, but it wasn't to be they were completely outplayed from the off going down 3-1, Giroud scoring the only goal. Adams Was heard shouting at his players in the changing room after the game with Mesut Ozil apparently being pointed out for his poor performance.
