PSG hire Brazilian legend

A legend at the hold... Brazil and former PSG player Ronaldinho has today been unveiled as the new manager of Les Rouges-et-Bleus.

After the shock resignation of Laurent Blanc, Paris Saint-Germain have hired former legend Ronaldinho as their new manager on a one year deal, shocking fans even more.

This news comes after former manager Laurent Blanc resigned, saying that the French side were "never his dream". Very few people had thought the Brazilian superstar would be his successor, and he'll definitely have a lot to live up to in the new season after Blanc won three trophies in his single season at Parc des Princes.

Ronaldinho, who has the full name Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, becomes PSG's eighth manager since 2003, and his decision to become manager of the European giants means he has officially retired from football, ending his career at Atlético Mineiro.

Speaking of his new role, Ronaldinho said, "Being a former PSG player, it's a great honour to be their manager, like many great players have gone on to do. PSG are a club with a great history, and it's tremendous to be part of it as a player and as a manager."

In Ronaldinho Gaucho's playing career, he played for Gremio for three years, making fifty-two appearances and scoring twenty-one goals. This was when he captured the attention of clubs across the world.

He signed for Paris Saint-Germain in 2001 for €5m and made fifty-five appearances in the two years he was there. as well as scoring seventeen goals.

Gaucho then made the move to Spain to play for Barcelona for a large fee of €30m and, from 2003 to 2008, made 145 appearances and scored a very impressive 70 goals, proving he was worth his large price tag.

In 2008, he joined Italian side A.C. Milan, who signed the midfield star for an overall total of around €24m, but his two year stint had a couple of injuries and he played seventy-six games, scoring twenty goals.

Deciding to go back to his home country, he went off to Flamengo, where he lasted around two years and scored fifteen goals in thirty-three games before terminating his contract over financial issues.

This was when he made his final move to Atlético Mineiro, just four days after leaving Flamengo. He played fourty-six games and scored sixteen goals, and there were rumours he would renew his contract back in January, but instead he has chosen to retire and join PSG as a manager.

Former teammates have taken to Twitter to congratulate the Brazilian star on his new job, with Clarence Seedorf, Rivaldo and current Brazil squad member and newly signed PSG player David Luiz being a few.

Clarence Seedorf: Congratulations @10Ronaldinho on his manager job at PSG! He'll find out how great yet stressful it is being a manager very soon, but I wish him all the best! Maybe a Champions League match between us both will take place? Haha."

Ronaldinho may have been persuaded to join PSG as a manager because of the fantastic finances they have, with a huge budget of at least £40m to spend on players, and that's with the signing of David Luiz. If he decides to sell all of the "deadwood players" in the team, Les Rouges-et-Bleus could be a dark horse this Champions League.

PSG have Alves bid rejected

Not a chance... PSG's £20m bid for Barcelona's Dani Alves (above) has been rejected, with Brazilian manager Ronaldinho giving up on the right back easily.

Ronaldinho's attempt to capture fellow Brazilian Dani Alves and make him join French side PSG has failed after Barcelona rejected the 20m bid he made for the right back.

Since Ronaldinho joined, many expected that he would want to bring a series of South Americans to help him settle into his new job. Dani Alves was the immediate target for the Brazilian, as PSG need a right back that's better than current right backs Gregory van der Wiel and Christopher Jallet, one of which will likely be sold within the next 12 months.

So Gaucho made a bid of £20m to Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, expecting an offer of that money to be accepted, and not wanting to go any higher. However, Enrique rejected the offer, saying it wasn't good enough for a valuable player like Alves.

Not wanting to waste any more money on the Brazilian just because he's Brazilian, the PSG manager gave up on his hunt easily, and now Ronaldinho and his scouts will need to find a new right back target if they're going to succeed in the Champions League this season.

Speaking about the interest in him, Alves said, "While it would be great to work with Ronaldinho and the PSG side, I know that I have it good here at Barcelona, and I know that Luis [Enrique] won't let me go for the amount of money offered. Which is fine for me."

Football journalist Daniel Toppop decided to think about who Ronaldinho could sign as a right back, a position they need to strengthen above all others.

"With PSG, because they have so much money, there are a lot of possibilities. Ronaldinho could go for some English talent by signing Kyle Walker from Spurs, who have gone slightly downhill in the last year. Whether he'll decide to stay and watch Tottenham rise again, we don't know."

"Then he could also go for Ligue 1 experience in Toulouse's Serge Aurier, who had a fantastic World Cup in Brazil despite exiting in the Group Stage. He could be a cheap and good option for PSG to sign."

"One more possibility is perhaps spending a lot of money on Real Madrid's Dani Carvajal, who is full of potential at his age. He'd definitely be a great buy for PSG if Ronaldinho sees that."

With a large budget to spend on as many players as he pleases, Ronaldinho will almost definitely bring in some South American players and bring some great football to France.

Ronaldinho's first move as PSG manager is a 20m offer for Barcelona's Dani Alves, which was rejected by manager Luis Enrique. The Brazilian superstar gave up on the right back, and a journalist tried to figure out who he could sign next, with Kyle Walker, Serge Aurier and Dani Carvajal being mentioned. It's also mentioned that Ronaldinho will be looking to bring in some South American players to the squad.

Up for grabs... PSG have had a £36m bid for French midfielder Paul Pogba accepted by Juventus, but the French side face competition from Chelsea and Manchester City.

PSG's £36m bid for highly-rated Paul Pogba has been accepted, but so have bids from Chelsea and Man City, so the race to grab the Juventus midfielder will be tense between the three giants.

The French midfielder had a cracking World Cup campaign in Brazil, picking up the Young Player award. This roused a lot of interest in the former Manchester United player, and now the three European giants have made bids for Pogba, and Juventus, who have been left with no manager, have accepted these.

It's almost certain that Pogba will leave the Italian side this summer, but where and when exactly he'll move is what is uncertain, because PSG, Man City and Chelsea aren't the only clubs interested.

Former club Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and AS Monaco are all reportedly interested in taking the youngster to their clubs, and there'll definitely be tense competition to sign the highly-rated Frenchman.

Pogba was part of the Juventus squad that reached the semi finals of the Europa League and won Serie A last year, as well as part of the French squad that reached the quarter finals of the World Cup.



PSG are one of three teams to have a £36m bid for Juventus' midfielder Paul Pogba accepted, as English giants Man City and Chelsea have also had bids accepted. It's almost certain Pogba will leave, but with interest from many other clubs, his next destination is unknown.
