On a beautiful summer's evening in the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Borussia Monchengladbach overcame Bayern Munich from behind to win the DFB Pokal on penalties. Stefan Strandberg hit the winning penalty in the shootout, but the real hero was goalkeeper Timo Horn.

Gladbach headed into the the game with the news that star wing-back Fabian Johnson would be unavailable, due to international duty. And Bayern made their start worse, when Lewandowski scored after just three minutes on the clock. Gladbach had to hang on, as Horn saved from Lewandwoski and Robben one after the other.

After the hour mark had passed, Gladbach changed from their 5-3-2 formation, to a striker less formation. Immediately, they started to have more of the ball, and substitute Di Natale gave Gladbach the spark that they needed, when he played Kevin Volland. Volland finished by powering the ball into the far corner.

In the last moment of added time, Di Natale hit the bar, before Robben countered and squared it to Lewandowski, who had his shot saved by Horn from point-blank range. On to extra-time then.

Neither team could impose themselves in the first half, but in the second half, Bayern spurned four clear cut opportunities, with Horn making some excellent saves. The game then headed onto penalties, where Lewandowski had his penalty saved low to Horn's right. Strandberg then smashed home his penalty into the top corner to secure a domestic double for Gladbach.

Borussia Monchengladbach have today announced their signings and sales ahead of the new season. Gladbach, who completed a domestic double last season, have reportedly spent £100M on new players, while receiving £65M for players that have been sold. Many of the new players that have been signed are hot prospects for the future, while some are to fill in the positions of those that have been sold.

Bundesliga holders Borussia Monchengladbach suffered a disappointing pre-season despite many new signings to bolster the squad. In five matches, Gladbach could only score on three separate occasions, conceding eight goals in the process.

Die Fohlen kicked off their pre-season with a defeat away at the hands of French side Lorient. It was a poor performance at the Stade Yves Allainmat, as firstly Autret scored in the 20th minute. Gladbach struggled to impose themselves upon the game, and despite 18 shots on goal, only three were on target. Burkinabe striker Alain Traore wrapped up the game for Lorient, with a goal in the 74th minute.

Then, Gladbach travelled to north London for the second year running. However, this time they were well dominated by the English side, although the 3-0 scoreline may have been harsh. The German side only managed 39% possession, but held out until the 63rd minute, when Mesut Ozil scored. Arsenal, who finished 5th last season in the Premier League, then scored two more late goals, courtesy of Wilshere in the 89th minute, and an Aaron Ramsey penalty in the 93rd minute.

Fellow Bundesliga side Dusseldorf beat Gladbach as well, after Mendler scored an early goal in the 9th minute. Gladbach again struggled for possession, which meant that hey couldn't force an impact on the game. When youngster Benoit Lucas equalised though, on 40 minutes, the game changed fortunes. Gladbach went into half time level, but conceded only 4 minutes after the break.

Gladbach then faced Stade Reims at the Stade Auguste Delaune, where, despite a very poor performance, Gladbach came out on top. The only goal of the game came from Ante Kardum in the 39th minute. Finally, Gladbach played against highly-rated Serie A side Fiorentina. Giuseppe Rossi scored a fantastic goal earlier on, while Amin Younes replied after 68'.

Gladbach will now face Dortmund in the German Super Cup.

Borussia Monchengladbach lost 1-0 to a strong Dortmund side in the DFL Supercup at the Signal Iduna Park. After rejuvenating his title-winning squad, Lucien Favre win himself another trophy, in ultimately quite a boring match.

Favre started with six new signings in a striker less 3-2-3-2, with wing backs and a holding midfielder, while Dortmund, who were pipped to 1st place by Gladbach last season, started with none of their new signings in a standard 4-4-2 formation.

Gladbach started the game well, but Die Fohlen struggled with Marco Reus and Xherdan Shaqiri, who continued to find space behind the Gladbach back '5'. Dortmund went close through Immobile, but Gladbach continued to have more of the ball.

However, when Hoffmann picked up the ball on the edge of the area shortly before half time, he crossed to wards the back post, and Ciro Immobile was there to volley in for Dortmund. This kickstarted Immobile's season, after he scored nine in 22 league games last season.

Gladbach, depute having more of the ball, did not seem to get enough shots away, and they struggled to even have an effort at goal during the second half. Raheem Sterling was brought on after 65 minutes, but struggled to have an impact.

The game fizzled out, with the final score ending 1-0 to Dortmund.

What a shame! I guess it takes time for squad to cohere.

A lot of players in but some great buys! Januzaj can become amazing if given the opportunity, hopefully you give him just that! Tough loss to Dortmund though
