Gladbach: Colombian Invasion

Borussia Monchengladbach have today announced the signing of three new players, all from Colombia. The players will join up with the other Colombian star in the Gladbach squad, Eder Alvarez Balanta. The deal further fuels rumours that Favre is looking to build an empire of global talent at Gladbach, as he also includes players from Martinique and Moldova among his setup.

The first player to sign for Gladbach is Jeison Murillo. The 24 year old centre-back, who has been capped 26 times for Colombia, cost Gladbach a total of £5.5M from Real Madrid. Murillo, who worked his way up through Spanish football, made his debut against Belgium just before the 2014 World Cup, and used to play for Granada.

Next to sign was Juan Fernando Quintero. The former Envigado player was chased by Gladbach two seasons ago, but his price was deemed too much on that occasion. However, this time Gladbach found that they could go in for Quintero with a £2.6M bid. The attacking midfielder is known for his fantastic technical attributes, and is a very exciting player. He joins from Porto.

Finally, Gladbach have signed James Rodriguez. The Colombian, formerly of Monaco, joined Real Madrid for a huge £68M, and had three seasons with Los Galacticos. However, he struggled there, and has joined Gladbach for a deal worth £16.5M. Rodriguez, who also played for Porto when he was younger, has 54 caps for his national team, scoring 10 goals.

Gladbach have also announced that their merchandising sales have shot up, especially in Colombia and South America.
Outstanding signings, that's one of the best invasions I've ever seen. All 3 are top class players and add a bit of Colombian flair and most importantly Rodriguez and Quintero help to fill in for the goals you lost this season. Great profit and fantastic business. Keep it up!
iHowardy: Thanks a lot mate! Really happy with all three deals.

Gladbach: August Update

Gladbach: September

Slight mistake on the latest graphic, you've put yourself twice and not Bayern on the table but good month nonetheless!
iHowardy: Good spot mate, cheers for that!
Great story mate defo following this
Cappy13: Thanks mate, means a lot!

Gladbach: October Results

Borussia Monchengladbach began the month of October with a disappointing draw at home to the hands of SC Freiburg. In an uneventful match, Freiburg's goalkeeper, Sebastian Mielitz, won man of the match. Although Gladbach dominated possession and had 11 shots on target, poor finishing meant that Gladbach couldn't score. Final Score: 0-0

A far better performance from Borussia Monchengladbach, again at home against Wolfsburg. Gladbach dominated the match, with Adnan Januzaj scoring in the 10th minute, and Gladbach had 61%, although they could not press the Wolfsburg defence enough to score, with only 5 shots on target. Final Score: 1-0

Borussia Monchengladbach had an excellent game up against fellow Champions League competitors Southampton. The English side struggled for possession, and could not threaten the Gladbach goal enough. Januzaj opened the scoring on 19 minutes, and left wing-back Nicola Murru scored an impressive volley. James Rodriguez then scored, before Man of the Match defender Diego Reyes scored on 49 minutes. Final Score: 4-0

Borussia Monchengladbach again had a brilliant performance, yet could not find the net on more occasions. Gladbach took the lead from Sunzu's sliced clearance, which found the net. Then, in bizarre fashion, Hegeler's cross, which Horn seemed to have covered, bounced over Horn and went in. It took Batshuayi to take his tally for the season to 10, with a goal in the 66th minute. Final Score: 2-1

Gladbach produced another solid home performance, as they comfortably beat Hoffenheim at the Borussia Park. Goals from Batshuayi and Balanta gave Gladbach a comfortable victory, before Grenier scored after good buildup play for the game to end in an easy victory. Final Score: 3-0
love the new style, great update and a good start in the season!
TaroMisaki: Thanks mate!

Gladbach: November results

Borussia Monchengladbach began their month with a tough trip to the south coast of England. Southampton were sitting in second place in the group, and it took juan Fernando Quintero's first goal for Gladbach on 29 minutes for Die Fohlen to win.

Gladbach then went into the match against Bochum. The rain was coming down hard, and unfortunately, two fantastic goals from Bochum in the first half could not be beaten, with only Batshuayi scoring on 86 minutes. Despite having 62% possession, Gladbach could not break down Bochum's defence.

Gladbach responded to their defeat with a commanding 3-0 victory over struggling Koln. Early goals from Balanta and Gil Romero gave Gladbach the lead after 10 minutes, before Mayke finished the scoring in the 47th minute. Again, Gladbach had more than 60% possession, meaning Koln could not force former player Timo Horn into a save.

Gladbach faced a tough trip to the Catalan giants Barcelona. Although they were unbeaten in La Liga, Barcelona sat bottom of the group with two points. A Neymar goal on 14 minutes saw Barcelona take the lead, before Denswil headed an equaliser in just before half-time. Gladbach defended valiantly, and shared most of the ball with Enrique's Barcelona.

Gladbach returned to action in Germnay with a trip to Schalke. In a very even match, Januzaj and Rodriguez scored to help Gladbach level the score twice, before Diego Reyes saw red for a second yellow. Danny Cabezas, signed in January 2015, got his first run out having spent last season on loan at Leverkusen.

Gladbach rounded off the month and the Champions League group stage with an easy 2-0 win at the Borussia Park. A penalty from Denswil and a fantastic free-kick from Januzaj saw Gladbach easily win, while Marseille had one shot on target out of 13.

Gladbach: December results

Borussia Monchengladbach began December with a hard-fought draw at home to Hamburg. Despite Hamburg sitting in mid-table, they were able to dominate the ball at Borussia Park, with 58% of the ball. Gladbach defended well though, but could not threaten the Hamburg goal enough.

In what looked to be a routine game at home to high flying Frankfurt, Gladbach found themselves knocked out after extra time. Desnwil's 80th minute header looked to have secured a victory, but Frankfurt struck back late in the match, before dominating extra-time to earn a 2-1 win.

Gladbach then travelled to Frankfurt, only 3 days after crashing out of the DFB Pokal. However, despite being stronger going forwards, Frankfurt won through a Timo Horn own goal, which was then secured when the ball ricocheted off Mayke, who scored another own goal.

Gladbach then headed into the winter break after a confident performance at home against Nurnberg. A superb Adnan Januzaj helped Gladbach, as he scored a hat-trick and assisted Nicola Murru's goal. Januzaj, last year's European Golden Boy, scored an excellent free-kick, before a penalty and a tap-in secured his first hat-trick for Gladbach.

Favre:"I concede the title."

Favre ahead of the Nurnberg match

Borussia Monchengladbach manager Lucien Favre had today admitted that his side can no longer win the league. The news comes on the 21st December, only halfway through the season. Bayern Munich, who have finished 3rd the last two seasons under Pep Guardiola, are currently top by seven points, having lost at the weekend. They also did not concede a goal until their 14th match, and have looked formidable, brushing aside all their opponents.

Gladbach meanwhile have seemed slightly off the pace in the Bundesliga. Despite finishing top of their Champions League group, featuring Barcelona, Southampton and Marseille, they have crashed out of the DFB Pokal and have already dropped more points than they did last season, where they set the Bundesliga points record. New signings James Rodriguez and Juan Fernando Quintero have been less than impressive, and striker Michy Batshuayi has now not scored since the 2-1 defeat to Bochum in early November.

"I don't think that we can win the league this year. We have played well, but lately we have been making too many mistakes, and we find ourselves here in 4th place. Yes, we are two points of Schalke in 2nd, but we have lost too many and drawn too many. My priority will not be the league now because we can not win it. I concede the title. Simple. I will look instead to winning in Europe. I believe we can beat Benfica in the next round, and press to hopefully earn ourselves a semi-final or maybe a spot in Ukraine in May."

Manager Lucien Favre also took questions at Borussia Park over the futures of some of his players. Raheem Sterling has been less than impressive over his 18 months at the club, while George Thorne, Amin Younes and Danny Cabezas have all struggled to make any appearances at the club. Diego Reyes, the Mexican centre-back and club captain has also been the subject of interest from Arsenal and Real Madrid.

"Yes, I do think that some players will be leaving. We have had enquiries from Arsenal and Bayern for George (Thorne), and Amin and Danny have both asked me if they can look for a new club. Diego will not be leaving. I want to reinforce this, because he is a great player and a fantastic leader for the club."

Gladbach have also announced that the deals for Turkish 18 year old Ishan Cicek and Georgian 18 year old Solomon Mikadze have been completed. Cicek will join for £15.5M, in a deal that was agreed two years ago. He has three caps for Turkey, and scored 20 times in 36 appearances for Turkish champions Galatasaray. Mikadze joins for £240k from Zestaponi. He made 68 appearances in two and a half years there, and the centre-back scored and five occasions.
