Transfer News: Spurs reject Manchester United bid for Sandro

Manchester United have had a £42m bid for Sandro Raniere rejected by Tottenham, according to Sky sources.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been a crucial part of Tottenham Hotspur's squad since joining from Brazilian side Internacional in 2010. He has since featured in the Brazilian national side, but made his first appearance one year prior to his move to England.

United, who are looking to strengthen their squad with the arrival of new manager Louis van Gaal and the club's poor performances last season, will be hoping that the change in leadership can take them back to where they feel they deserve to be - at the top of the table. The Dutchman has already bought the likes of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, but is clearly intent on adding more, hoping that Sandro Raniere would be the next player to arrive at Old Trafford this summer.

Van Gaal identified Sandro as a target after missing out on Juventus' Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal, who turned down the chance to join the English club.

However, these plans were also scuppered when Tim Sherwood announced that Sandro was not going anywhere, no matter what fee was offered, and the Brazilian seems happy enough to stay.

But there are expected to be more departures from White Hart Lane before the transfer window slams shut, with Sandro's international colleague Paulinho rumoured to be leaving the club following the arrivals of Daley Blind and Morgan Schneiderlin.
Keep him! He is brilliant!

Spurs lure Lavezzi to White Hart Lane.

We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for the transfer of Ezequiel Lavezzi for an up front fee of £15m.

The 28 year old striker, who can also play as a winger, began his professional career with Argentinian side Estudiantes, before transferring to Genoa in 2004. He was not in the manager's plans, however, and was loaned back to Argentina, this time to San Lorenzo. He impressed the management during his loan and was bought permanently by the club. Again he impressed and another move to Italy was secured, as Napoli paid €6 million to bring the capped Argentinian to the club. After five years in Italy, he would move to oil rich Paris Saint-Germain where more outstanding performances had him hitting the headlines, and rumours of another move beckoned.

With monthly instalments, Spurs could match their record transfer fee of £30 million, with Erik Lamela who is an international team-mate of Lavezzi holding that record at present.

Following the sale of Emanuel Adebayor, it was hinted that Sherwood would look to bring a top quality forward into the club, and so he has.

He is likely to start as a lone striker, with Roberto Soldado, who disappointed many fans following his transfer from Valencia last season, expected to rotate with him or stand in while the Argentine is injured.

Meanwhile in the UEFA Europa League, Spurs have been drawn away to Scottish Premier League side Motherwell. The first leg will be away at Fir Park, and tickets are now available from both club websites for each leg. We hope to see you there.
Lavezzi is a great signing! Good results in pre-season as well, except the second.

Lavezzi suffers broken leg after just two games with Spurs

New Tottenham Hotspur acquisition Ezequiel Lavezzi will be out of action for the next six months after breaking his leg in Spurs' defeat to Southampton.

The Argentinian forward, making only his second appearance for the club, was injured after just one minute as Spurs crashed to their first loss of the season in the Barclays Premier League.

The former PSG and Napoli man joined just a few weeks ago, but the £30 million signing could already miss half of the season.

At the age of 28, Lavezzi is edging closer to the later stages of his career, and an injury such as this could hamper his chances of staying fit in the future.

As things stand, Tim Sherwood is able to use Erik Lamela and Aaron Lennon to cover Lavezzi on the wing, while Harry Kane and Roberto Soldado are expected to stand in for him up front.
Very very unlucky, poor waste of money. I hope you can find someone as good with budget left to replace him.

Juventus defender signs for Tottenham Hotspur

Serie A club Juventus have announced that Uruguayan defender Martín Cáceres has signed for Barclays Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur for a fee rumoured to be around £11 million.

Cáceres previously played for Spanish clubs Sevilla and Barcelona, but really made his name at Juventus, and at international level for Uruguay.

Primarily a centre back, Cáceres is versatile enough to play as a fullback on either side of the pitch, and will add depth to the Tottenham squad. Manager Tim Sherwood announced that Cáceres will be the final signing of the window for the club.

It is understood that Tottenham will look to utilize Cáceres as a right back, rotating with English defender Kyle Walker.

Spurs have made several additions to their first team squad during the summer, including the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Daley Blind, and are looking to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season, something which they have been unable to do for some time now.
unlucky about the Lavezzi injury, though i dont really rate him anyway, not the worst start to the season either though i bet youre disappointed with the loss to southampton

Transfer Deadline Day: 5 Biggest Buys (Summer 2014)

It has been a busy transfer window across the globe, with some top deals being made. As we have arrived at Transfer Deadline Day, we'll give you a run-down on the five most expensive buys of the last few months.

#1 - Luis Suárez - Liverpool to Barcelona - £75 million

The most expensive signing of the summer was made by Spanish giants Barcelona. Before the FIFA World Cup, many said it was inevitable that Luis Suárez would leave Liverpool, but more controversy from the Uruguayan striker put his future in doubt. Barcelona decided that the 26-year-old's quality outweighed the risk of more controversy.

Despite a four month ban from all competitions, Luis Enrique splashed out £75 million on the player, who topped the Barclays Premier League goalscoring charts for Liverpool last season with 31 goals.

Barcelona will be without the player until late October time, but the quality they possess up front, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and recent acquisitions Timo Werner and Andriy Yarmolenko should be enough to tide Barcelona over until Suarez's return.

Liverpool have spent some of the money that the sale brought in, but have not yet secured a top class striker, something which many claim is needed to fill the gap left by Suarez.

#2 - James Rodríguez - AS Monaco to Real Madrid - £71 million

After stunning everyone with his performances at the World Cup, it was Real Madrid who captured Colombian midfielder James Rodríguez, for a big fee of £71 million. Many feel that, although the player is quality, Madrid overpaid for the Monaco player, who is just 22-years-old.

They also claim that Rodríguez is not necessarily needed at the Bernabeu, with the likes of Isco and Toni Kroos already battling for places in the first team squad.

And early signs suggest that they could be right - Madrid have played three league games, but James Rodríguez has not featured in a single one, Ancelotti preferring Croatian midfielder Luka Modric to the Colombian.

However, it is very early on in the season, and Rodríguez still has the chance to make a big impact at his new club, whose fans will be hoping that he will not be wasted on the bench.

James Rodríguez signed a six year deal with the UEFA Champions League holders.

#3 - David Luiz - Chelsea to Paris Saint-Germain - £50 million

One piece of business that has been criticized is that of PSG's £50 million acquisition of Brazilian defender David Luiz from Chelsea.

Laurent Blanc's side wrapped up a deal for the 27-year-old, breaking the world transfer record for a defender.

The deal was completed before Brazil's disappointing World Cup campaign in their own backyard, where they were humiliated by eventual winners Germany.

The centre back, who can also play as a defensive midfielder has played in just one of PSG's four opening games, though this has been due to injury.

Fans do feel like the defender can be a success in France, but were left confused at the huge transfer fee involved.

#4 - Alexis Sánchez - Barcelona to Arsenal - £35 million

Initially expected to be a part of the deal to bring Luis Suarez to the Nou Camp, Chilean forward Alexis Sánchez eventually joined an English club - but it wasn't Liverpool.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was delighted to bring the 24-year-old to the club, and the player committed to a five year deal.

He has already made a fantastic impact with The Gunners, helping the club to a win over Premier League champions Manchester City in the Community Shield, and scoring his first goal in a 5-2 home win over Swansea City.

Arsenal fans are understandably thrilled at this capture. Sanchez has been deployed on the right wing, with former Real Madrid star Mesut Özil attacking the left flank, both players feeding in French striker Olivier Giroud.

#5 - Diego Costa - Atletico Madrid to Chelsea - £32.5 million

Another former La Liga star rounds off this list, with Spanish striker Diego Costa joining Chelsea for £32.5 million.

The 24-year-old has picked up a minor injury, but made a good impression in pre-season, scoring five goals for the club in just three starts, making four appearances from the bench.

However, he has not been able to carry that form, and the form he was in last season, through to the new league campaign with Chelsea, failing to score in two consecutive competitive matches.

Chelsea fans treated this signing as a blessing, having lacked a quality striker for the past couple of seasons.

Coupled with the return of club legend Didier Drogba, they were delighted at the business that Jose Mourinho was getting through, but will hope that Costa pulls his finger out soon to avoid being labelled as a flop.
