Shock as PSV hire unknown Manager

The footballing world was today shocked by the announcement from Dutch giants PSV, informing their fans about the new manager that has taken the helm. The new manager, James Crickmore, is relatively inexperienced with his only previous experience taking his Year 9 school team to the national cup for that age.

The news comes after Phillip Cocu resigned earlier this week after disagreeing with the board over transfer funds, with Cocu describing the board as 'controlling maniacs' and later saying that 'he could not get on with his job due to the lack of transfer funds.'

PSV haven't won the Eredivisie in 5 seasons, however new boss Crickmore has promised Eindhoven fans silverware, coupled with great football and plenty of first team football for youngsters.

Crickmore said in his first press conference that he is looking forward to working with players such as Memhis Depay and Zakaria Bakkali, as he marks them as two key players for the future.

PSV business is over according to Crickmore

When James Crickmore was appointed last month he made clear his squad was not big enough in certain areas. During this transfer window PSV have bought 5 players for the sum of £8.29 million. Despite being clearly pleased with his dealings this summer, Crickmore was left slightly disappointed that his two main targets, Kolo Toure and Morgan Amalfitano decided not to join the club due to the league not being up to their standards.

Arne van Geffen joined for a small fee of £300,000 from Helmond Sport, however this looks to be for the future and he will rarely play this year if at all. Crickmore has confirmed that he may let van Geffen leave on loan before the window ends.

Davy Propper was brought in from Vitesse joined for £2 million but went straight back on loan to Vitesse as part of the deal.

Lucas Neill joined on a free as a back up to Karim Rekik and Jeffery Bruma, as young centre back Menno Koch departed on loan to get first team football that he wasn't guaranteed at PSV this year.

Julien De Sart, the young Belgian joined on loan, as a decent back up for Adam Maher or Georginio Wijnaldum as both picked up slight knocks in the friendly against Raith.

Crickmore delighted with Pre Season

James Crickmore may have only been in charge for 6 games however fans are delighted by what they have seen. He has racked up 6 wins out of 6, with PSV scoring 27 goals in the process, whilst only conceding 2.

During his latest interview he was asked what he thought about the form in pre season to which he replied 'Football is football, a win is a win and a goal is a goal, we will win the league and I can tell that from these results.' Jamie Carragher believes that Crickmore, 25, is getting ahead of himself yet he does admire the optimism shown by the young man.

Being a fan of PSV, I advise you to play Boljevic, Paal and Bakkali quite a lot. They turn into beasts ;)

Bakkali is a regular starter for me at the minute, I will try and get Paal and Boljevic playing as much as I can

August

After a shaky start losing 2-1 away to Haugesund, I was worried, however following that result we picked up maximum points in the league and progressed in the Europa League winning all 3 games.

A terrible performance throughout the team; my defence were sloppy and inconsistent, the midfield struggled to keep a hold of the ball and release the wingers and Luuk De Jong up front was abysmal.

Completely the opposite to the game against Haugesund, I made some slight changes as I felt some players didn’t perform to their expectations, Lucas Neill, Oscar Hiljemark, Luciano Narsingh and Jürgen Locadia came in for Santiago Arias, Stijn Schaars, Zakaria Bakkali and Luuk De Jong.

I was a little nervous going into this game due to the fact that we lost the first leg. However Locadia’s goal in the 19th minute calmed the nerves and after that we were able to settle in. Once the first went in the result was never in doubt.

AZ are a fairly good side in the Eredivisie, however they never really caused us much trouble, with their goal only coming when we tired later on. Memphis Depay picked up a slight knock but returned to training within the next few days.

I had a good feeling heading into this match however both Groningen goals came within the first 20 minutes. I stayed calm as we were creating plenty of chances and we recovered and were winning 3-2 at the interval. A great win in my opinion.

Being drawn against a Bosnian team that I had never heard of was exactly what I wanted to hear. Despite going 1-0 down we were always in control. Locadia was the class act once again.

I had a few fitness issues for this game, young Arne van Geffen impressed however Depay stole the show once again with an outstanding performance.

Our final game of August was the second leg of the Europa League qualifier, both of our young wingers, Depay and Bakkali impressed yet again and we are now into the group stage where we will face Everton, Dinamo Moscow of Russia and FH of Iceland.

Player of the Month

There were many candidates this year with Memphis Depay, Zakaria Bakkali and Jürgen Locadia all impressing with their fair share of goals and assists. However this month the award winner is Lucas Neill as he has impressed me with his solid performances at the back. Despite not having the highest average rating he really steadied the defence.
