Macbook Network Game Issue

Every time I try to start a new online game, I receive the message:

"A network connection is required in order to play Football Manager online. Please ensure that you are connected to the internet and steam is online before continuing"

However, I AM online on steam. My friends have also noted that I am online. Despite this, when in-game, it never says "in-game" but rather just says I'm online. Furthermore, I cannot use the in-game shift-tab chat.

However, this doesn't bother me as much as the inability to start a network game does.

Any help is really appreciated.

What about other steam games, do they work? It sounds more like a problem with steam than fm.
Haven't tried any, other than FM Editor. Assisted devices is also on.
As Mike said, it is more likely a problem with Steam rather than FM. I recommend setting Steam to offline mode then back to online mode to see if that works. If not, un-install and re-install Steam. It won't cause any of your save games or other files to disappear.
