Arsenal appoint fan to manager's role

Fans Trust decide to appoint fan Stephen Gibbs to manager's role

The appointment comes after Arsene Wenger's shock decision to let his contract run down after leading Arsenal to believe he would extend his deal.

Wenger has decided to seek a new challenge and has paid tribute to Arsenal's players and fans.

Wenger did NOT choose his successor, CEO Ivan Gazidis made the decision to let the Arsenal Supporters Trust appoint a successor.

Gazidis said, "The decision to appoint Arsene's replacement will be one to please some and annoy others, some fans like to blame the board, so the board decided to trust the fans with this big decision. Fans know the club and have the club's best intentions at heart and in their blood, the decision to appoint Stephen represents the board's willingness to involve it's support. Stephen is an 'A' Licence holding coach who is a die hard Arsenal fan at heart. He has all the attributes to be a top manager and spend many years with Arsenal."

Gibbs told the press, "When I got the call, I thought it was a joke. Nobody saw this coming, I thought it was a joke but it was Ivan Gazidis and I spoke with the board, they offered me a one year contract and I said yes, I would have done this job for free. It's a dream come true!"

Arsenal sign Edin Dzeko on loan deal

Dzeko signs one year loan deal with view to permanent move

Dzeko will strengthen Arsenal's strikeforce with Olivier Giroud out until February after scans revealed an injury sustained in training was more serious than expected.

"I am very happy to sign for Arsenal. The club have big ambitions this season and I am very happy the club wanted me to be a part of the team for the season." Dzeko tweeted.

Dzeko was transfer listed by Manchester City but the Gunners have agreed a loan deal with the North London club paying half of Dzeko's £120,000 a week wages. Arsenal will pay City £275,000 a month for the deal amounting to £2.75 million, just over a tenth of Monaco's loan price for Radamel Falcao.

"I'm delighted Edin accepted our offer, he is a good striker who will be a key part of our season, if it becomes permanent than that's fantastic but we can not get carried away at this moment. He is a top player who will be welcomed by the club's support and team."

Arsenal are believed to be closing in on deals to sign Dortmund defender Neven Subotic and free agent David Pizarro.

Arsenal complete double signing

Neven Subotic joins from Dortmund, David Pizarro on a free transfer

The Gunners boss has completed deals for the defender and midfielder respectively. Subotic has signed a five year contract for a fee of £8.5 million pounds with the Serbian set to earn £41,000 a week.

Arsenal were heavily linked with bids for both Bender brothers with the Gunners still interested in signing one of the two. It is believed Lars Bender will sign with Arsenal before sealing a loan switch back to Leverkeusen.

Subotic and Pizarro were both unveiled to the media. "I am very glad to sign for Arsenal. Arsenal is a big club and I look forward to winning trophies." Subotic said.

"Arsenal are a huge team and I can't wait to play at the Emirates" Pizarro told the press.
