Leeds United confirm new manager
Shortly after the sacking coach Dave Hockaday, controversial Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has appointed his new manager. Shocking the Championship and the football world with the appointment of former Match of The Day pundit, Alan Hansen.
Hansen (Aged 59) has no managerial experience, since retiring from the beautiful game himself Hansen has spent most of time working within the media side of sport. Most famously when he made the comment that still gets said to this day ‘You can’t win anything with kids’, whilst reviewing a Manchester United squad which turned out to be the Class of 92. The Scot had playing spells at Patrick Thistle and Liverpool.
Cellino has thought to have held talks with Hansen for a period of months now. It is believed that he has set the job up for him as challenge, ‘to win something with kids’. When we spoke to Cellino earlier he had this to say.” I have appointed Alan to take care of the future of this historic club. Not to manage for one or two seasons, but to take care of for the next five, maybe ten years. Due to his famous comment, I challenged him to try and win something with kids. Bring in players that can be at the club for years to come and develop into great players.
Hansen takes charge of the club with immediate effect and will be at the training ground as of tomorrow morning to meet the team. It is though potential transfers will be discussed with Hansen keen to dip into the market.
Hansen made over 500 senior appearances in his club career and was well known for his solid performances in the heart of defence. He will be hoping for similar success as he sets his sights on management .
