Captain Fantastic says team are in good spirits as they fly Stateside

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has assured fans that the heartbreak suffered at the end of last season is well behind them and that they are now focused on going one better than second place. After a thrilling campaign, The Reds ended up two points behind Manchester City and qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers has now organized a last minute tour of America to build relationships within the team and to get a gauge of how the new signings will fit in at the club. The team will face Philadelphia and D.C. United during their eleven day stay in America, before returning home in time to open their Premier League campaign at home to local rivals Everton.

We caught up with Gerrard before the team jetted off, and the captain said: "We've had a few big losses to the squad in Daniel Agger and Luis Suarez, but the team spirit remains high, and myself and the rest of the lads are confident of another big season. Obviously this could be one of my last at the club, so I'm going to be giving my all to win some silverware here.

We're back in Europe for the first time in a few years, so that's obviously a huge boost to everyone here. Brendan's signings have been doing well in training and everyone's welcomed them with open arms. We're in for a good season here, we can all feel it."
We go again!! :D C'mon you Reds!

Johnson likely to be offered new contract, says Rodgers

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that Glen Johnson is 'almost definitely' ready to put pen to paper on a new long term contract at the club, despite calls from fans for the right back to be sold.

The England international has been criticized by fans and pundits alike for his underwhelming performances in recent seasons, but Rodgers, 41, is happy with the standard that the 29-year-old is playing at currently.

"The likelihood of Glen being offered a new contract is very high. He always gives his all in training, but the fans aren't too happy with his defensive efforts. With a new contract looking close, we should get behind Glen and support him before what is sure to be a great season for us. We've brought young Manquillo in on loan from Atletico, and Glen is really fighting to keep his place in training and on the pitch in friendlies. The competition has really fired up, and I just hope that he can carry it through to the beginning of the season, because that's what I and so many others will be judging him on."

Meanwhile, there is some good news for Liverpool fans as injury-plagued Spanish fullback Jose Enrique has returned to full training, and should be fit for the start of the season, although he will have to fight it out for a place in the first eleven with the recent arrival of fellow Spaniard Alberto Moreno. Enrique has been out of action since November last year with a damaged knee cap, forcing Rodgers to start young Jon Flanagan in his place.

End to troubles for Liverpool as Sergio Romero joins?

  • Romero, 27, starred for Argentina at the 2014 World Cup as his nation went on to reach the Final
  • Hope around Merseyside that Romero's arrival will bring an end to goal leakage from last season
  • Brendan Rodgers says any more signings are unlikely

  • Argentinian goalkeeper Sergio Romero was spotted outside Anfield yesterday, causing a day of speculation on social media site Twitter. Liverpool were very quiet about any news until late last night, when they confirmed Romero's arrival on their Twitter feed and Facebook account. The 27-year-old shone at the World Cup for Argentina, helping them to get to the Final of the globe's most prestigious sports competition before losing to Germany.

Look out Mignolet: Romero intends to send out a strong message to Belgian rival

A fee of just under £1 million was enough to pry him away from Sampdoria's clutches. Romero was rumoured to be unhappy at the club as he wanted a move to a bigger club. The Italian side, who signed him from AZ for £1.8 million, reluctantly caved in to Romero's demands and sold him for a very low price.

Romero joined AS Monaco on loan last season, but played as second string to first choice goalkeeper Daniel Subasic and only ended up playing on three occasions in the league. Monaco had the choice to make the move permanent, but passed up on the chance. Romero reportedly rejected an approach from Manchester United earlier this month.

The player will provide competition for Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who was criticized last season for his performances, as well as the Liverpool defence. With the 'bargain price' there is little pressure on Romero, but a player of his class should be expected to perform to a good standard nonetheless.

Brendan Rodgers has told reporters that Romero is likely to be the last signing of what has been a very busy window for the club. "We've strengthened the team in some key areas now, areas where the fans were urging us to improve, and now we have. We have some quality players at this club, and we should be in store for another exciting season."
Romero will add some competition for the number 1 spot and so cheap, nicely done mate.
A solid set of results mate.
A good deal for Romero, now to get Balotelli scoring in real competition!
Excellent updates and I love the monthly result graphic. Keep it up!
Not brilliant. Let's hop your form improves next months, knowing you I am sure it will ;)
Welbz, Player of the Month! :D You've got the hard bit done - Balotelli scoring. Now to build on that :)
