Senna unveiled. Pellegrini returns.

Villarreal officially unveiled their newly appointed manager Marcos Senna today at the El Madrigal. The former Villarreal midfielder signed a 3 year contract which will keep him in charge until the end of the 2016/2017 season.

Marcos Senna met the press this afternoon at his unveiling.

“It’s thrilling to be back at the El Madrigal” claimed Senna.

“It is an opportunity I couldn't possibly refuse, to return to the club that gave me the best years of my career.”

“It is an enormous responsibility, and one that I am relishing to take charge of. The Amarillo supporters gave me so much when I was here. I will work as hard as I can to give something back to them.”

The Valencian club also confirmed a return for former-Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini who will be undertaking a technical director role at the club.

The experienced Chilean was recently sacked from the current English Champions, despite delivering the Premier League title, due to what is believed to be interpersonal disputes.

Pellegrini, 61, is happy to return to his former club and is relishing the new challenge.

“I am very pleased to make a return, to a club I left a little prematurely.” announced Pellegrini.

“The last few weeks have been very difficult, but that is another matter. This challenge, it is new. It is different. I feel comfortable taking it on. I am confident for the forthcoming future for the club.”

“I will be upstairs if Marcos needs anything. Marcos will work day to day. He will deal with the tactics, the philosophy, the emotion. He knows what it means to wear the yellow shirt. He will develop the squad, as footballers and as people.”

“My colleagues and I will look at the bigger picture. Finances. The future. The young players. We are always looking and always recruiting.”

When asked of how he will adapt from the dug out to the directors box, Pellegrini responded with some relief.

“It is a positive change. It is beneficial to me and my family. It will be difficult, but perhaps less demanding. I can give everything to the club, and still devote time to my family.”

“Coaching now, it is for young and progressive coaches, always moving and always adapting. It was the right time for me to broaden my horizon.”

Marcos Senna expressed his delight in being reunited with his former boss.

“It is exciting to be working with him again. He propelled my career to where it is today. He got the very best out of me and my team mates. We perhaps have unfinished business here.”

“It is my first coaching experience. To have Manuel to go to will be of a huge benefit for me and the club. We can most certainly make history together.”

Senna, 38, was asked by the media if there was any chance of him giving himself a squad number for the forthcoming season, to which he reacted defiantly.

“No, no. I wouldn’t be able to keep up! These young guys. they are much faster than me. My knees are finished.”

Villarreal’s summer training camp and pre-season tour is due to commence later this week, where Senna will take charge of his first game as manager.
Interesting partnership. Will be interesting to see who does what and whether they'll work well together :)
Nice updates so far, interesting to see Pellegrini come back in that capacity and Senna's appointment speaks for itself. I hope you can lead Villareal back up the table now :D

"Senna will be backed" - Alfonso

Villarreal president Fernando Roig Alfonso has vowed that Marcos Senna will have the finances to compete in the transfer market before La Liga season starts.

"Marcos Senna will have no quantifiable budget." Alfonso claimed.

"We are no longer striving for stability. It only takes us so far. The football club needs to take risks."

"Marcos knows that he will have the money to bring in who he sees fit for the club. If he wants to tweak, he can tweak. We support that. If he wants to overhaul, he can overhaul. We support that too."

"Financially, we are a successful club. Our support is loyal and strong. We compete. We have investors who want the club to prosper. The resources are plentiful"

"We have the money to bring in elite talent. But we won't spend for spending sake. Marcos Senna will have the freedom to identify targets, and we will do all we can to bring them to him."

http://images.dailystar-uk.co.uk/dynamic/58/photos/517000/129517.jpg

Alfonso was asked if there was any truth in the rumours in bringing Antonio Valencia back to El Madrigal.

"You would have to ask Luis Van Gaal. Our offer has been tabled, and Mr Van Gaal has to decide whether or not Antonio is in his plans for the future. We will see"

"Antonio was here many years ago. He was very young. Nervous, even. We saw the raw talent in him, but he wasn't ready. He suffered home-sickness, and he wasn't happy here. He played twice for the team, but we mutually saw his future elsewhere."

"He's developed into an explosive, physically imposing player. Dangerous, yet defensively strong. Marcos identified him as an early target. We will keep our fingers crossed."

Reports in England claim that Antonio Valencia could be available if the asking price of £7.5million can be met, and it doesn't appear that the Ecuadorian winger is part of Luis Van Gaal's plans.

Talking Tactics with Marcos Senna

Marcos Senna is on the verge of taking charge of his former club, Villarreal, as he embarks on an evaluative pre-season training camp for the first time as a manager. Before he jets off on his pre-season tour, Andrew Gibney managed to catch up with Marcos to talk tactics, tiki-taka and tracksuits.

http://opticaporlacara.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Marcos_Senna.jpg

AG: Marcos! You must have had a busy couple of weeks?

MS: Absolutely. Retirement. Moving back to Castellon. Selling my New York apartment. Being offered the Villarreal job should be sandwiched in there somewhere. It all happened so fast.

AG: So where do you begin? What's your first task as manager?

MS: Learning the players names would be a good start! (Laughs). But most importantly, I need to evaluate. What do I have, what don't I have. I have a shape in mind that I want to take forward, and I need to build around that. A few players will probably need to leave. I imagine I will bring plenty in as well. It is exciting.

AG: Being Brazilian born, I presume you will adopt an attacking style of football

MS: You may be surprised. When I was growing up, my heroes were Zico and Beckenbauer. Zico was stylish and free. He couldn't be tamed. He played without position or caution. He epitomises Brazilian football to this day. On the flipside, I admired Beckenbauer. He wasn't a big player, nor a powerful player, but he played with intelligence. His role was to defend, but to defend with freedom. He wasn't bound to a centre back partner. He anticipated what the next move would be and absorbed it. To him, football was like chess. I find that system fascinating.

AG: Are you considering employing an old-fashioned sweeper?

MS: I can't say for certain. I am drawn to the idea of having 3 defenders, and one of those defenders having the freedom to 'clean up'. But it's old fashioned, isn't it? I will have to evaluate and see if anyone is capable of playing that role. It may well be a variation of it, in some respect.

AG: So you are looking to build on a strong defensive core?

MS: Absolutely. The very best teams were built on robust defences. Or at least they used to be! I want to emulate those great teams, like Fabio Capello's Milan. They were impossible to score past, and you knew that when they went 1-0 up, they had already won the game.

AG: Do you feel that approach will go against what makes Spanish football so entertaining?

MS: No, no. I think Diego Simeone and also Jose Mourinho have proven that defensive football is winning football. I will still want my team to keep the ball, recycle it, and keep it away from the opposition. But when we do not have the ball – and you sometimes have to concede possession for the good of the game – we can press and suffocate, and make the pitch seem smaller. Our players will work hard, and give everything every game, and that is what the fans will want to see.

AG: Half tiki-taka, half defensive?

MS: (Laughs). I suppose it could be, We'll see. Once I have evaluated the squad, who knows? I have ideas for the short term and ideas I want to build towards. My team might not be instant, and in the first instance, I may have to play to the strengths of what I have. I hope that in 2 seasons I will have exactly the team I want, but football is unpredictable.

AG: Can you win titles with Villarreal?

MS: I hope so, but it's premature to discuss it right now. The club is ambitious, and so am I, but having only stepped on the training ground once this week, there's so much more to do before I can start planning where I'm going to put all the medals! (Laughs).

AG: Lastly, will it be a suit or a tracksuit on the touchline?

MS: I'll play it by ear. I'll check the forecast in the mornings. I don't want to be stood in the blazing sunshine wearing a jacket and a neck tie!

AG: Thanks for stopping by Marcos. Best of luck for the coming season.

MS: My pleasure. Thankyou for having me. God bless.

Villarreal agree £5.5m Valencia deal

Villarreal and Manchester United have agreed a deal of £5.5million for Antonio Valencia, 29, subject to personal terms and a medical.

The out-of-favour winger has been ousted from Luis Van Gaal’s plans for the immediate future at Manchester United, and is set to return to his former club.

The Ecuadorian made just two appearances for Villarreal before enjoying successful loan spells at Recreativo and Wigan Athletic. Valencia made a name for himself in the Premier League with the Latics before sealing a £16million move to Manchester United, where he won two Premier League titles, scoring 21 goals in 192 appearances.

http://especiales.eluniverso.com/antonio-valencia/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/En-Villarreal-ante-Savio-Bortolini-28-jul-05.jpg

Marcos Senna, the newly appointed manager at Villarreal, expressed his delight at capturing one of the club’s primary targets.

“It is an exciting move, and one which I had outlaid from the very beginning.” Marcos explained.

“I am looking for the right personnel. Not just anybody. I require players who can give me both attacking and defensive qualities.”

“We will play two ways, when we have the ball, and when we don’t. We will have no passengers at either side.”

“Antonio is explosive. He is physical, and he can cause havoc on the flanks. Off the ball, he will never be beaten. He will always work hard. He is a perfect acquisition for the club.”

Antonio Valencia is expected to arrive at El Madrigal later today to complete a medical and conclude the proposed move.

Senna in the dugout and Pellegrini upstairs? I am okay with that. Let's see if it can work. I hope Senna is left to do the job, and Pellegrini doesn't interfere. We want to see what Marcos is made of. This is his time.

Senna is already making the right noises, and his rapid visit to the transfer market is a positive one.

Antonio Valencia? He's lost his way a little bit at MUFC, but I think he needs a new challenge and new surroundings. It appears Balague agrees.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f102/moshforjesus/Untitled-2_zpsd4365b07.jpg

I predict Senna still has a lot more to do in this window. Another centre back, and some midfield presence are a must. I pray he can fit everything in to this transfer window, as his pre-season will be hectic enough as it is.

Exciting times for our club!
I love the fact ur doing a Villarreal story i hope u can mix it with the top 4 and great update and nice catch with Valencia

“I want out!” – Yacob

West Bromwich Albion midfield Claudio Yacob has allegedly claimed he doesn’t want to return to the Hawthorns for pre-season.

Yacob, 27, was speaking to Argentine radio station Radio Mitre about his unhappiness and disputing the club’s lack of ambition.

“I don’t know if I will be returning. My agent is keeping an eye on the situation, but is actively looking for opportunities for me.”

“I want to be more than a player in the middle of the table. I want to push myself and the team. I don’t feel like the club can offer me that.”

“I have read the newspapers, and read the rumours about Villarreal. To work with Senna would be wonderful. He and the club seem very ambitious.”

“I think I could really help the team.”

The combative midfielder joined West Bromwich Albion from Racing Club in July 2012, scoring 1 goal in 57 appearances.
Thanks for the kind words so far guys. :D

It's my first proper go at a story. I started one with FM14 a while ago, but then my computer went kaput and I didn't really get it going! Hopefully I have better luck with this one so I can stick at it!

Villarreal complete loan deals for duo

Villarreal have announced the completion of the signings of Sergio Canales from Real Sociedad and Matija Nastasic from Manchester City on season long loans, both with options to buy.

Canales, 23, has struggled to settle after a calamitous spell at capital city giants Real Madrid. The former Spanish U21 international moved to Valencia but his time there was interrupted by long term injuries. Canales made a cut price move to Real Sociedad just a few weeks ago, but has immediately been put on the loan market.

Nastasic, 21, appears to have fallen out of favour at Manchester City, despite winning the club's Young Player of the Year award in his first season. The Serbian international failed to make an appearance in 2014 due to injury which forced him out of the side. The former Fiorentina defender couldn't work his way back into the side due to the improving form of Martin Demichelis.

Marcos Senna has expressed his belief in his new acquisitions.

"They've not had the best of luck in the past year or so" Senna explained.

"Both have had injuries, as well as team mates in better form. I know as well as anyone that it is difficult to reclaim your place."

"I know a lot about Sergio. He was surrounded by so much promise as a teenager. Real Madrid took him and were adamant he would be the best in the world, but as we often see with Madrid, it can be impossible for a young player to get into the team."

"We have it on good authority that his injuries are behind him. His knee is stronger than ever. I have faith he can continue his career with us and become one of the best players in the league."

When asked what plans he has for Matija Nastasic, Marcos Senna responded with "He will have the pre-season to build up a bit of confidence and match fitness, and we will take it from there."

"I know he is capable, but he hasn't played for a long time. I like what he can offer the team based on his attributes. He is physically imposing, but also very good with the ball at his feet."

"He will strengthen the core of the team, for absolute certain."

Sergio Canales and Matija Nastasic are set to join up with Villarreal's pre-season training camp tomorrow and should be available for selection in the club's upcoming friendlies
Nastasic and Canales are decent additions. Midfield would be even better with Yacob!
