Borussia Dortmund - Claim the German Crown

Yesterday Borussia Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim "Aki" Watzke announced that Jürgen Klopp stepped back from his post as a Manager at the club.
It's still unknown why he resigned, as both parties agreed to remain silent about the reasons, but there is no doubt, that the fans won't be happy about it.

Klopp has been in charge at Dortmund since 2008 and brought back success to the club, that was close to bankruptcy back in 2004.
Under Klopp's leadership, the squad of youngsters, exceeded all expectations, won the Bundesliga in 2011 and claimed the double in 2012.
One year later Klopp's team made it to the first ever German-German UEFA-Champions-League-Finale, but were defeated by FC Bayern München in a close encounter.

The force from the south reclaimed their position as the german number one over the past 2 years and without this great manager, it will be even harder for Borussia Dortmund to overcome the mighty Bayern.

It's quite hard to say, who will replace Jürgen Klopp at Dortmund, but nevertheless some bookies already speculate about potential candidates.


The 40 year old, currently unemployed, manager took charge at FSV Mainz 05, after Klopp left them to join Borussia Dortmund. With Tuchel in charge, Mainz got promoted to the Bundesliga and claimed a position in the mid-table a few years in a row now.

Since Hitzfeld retired as a football manager recently, he could be only a short-term solution, until Dortmund have found the perfect Klopp replacement. However the supporters would love to see the man back in charge, who brought huge success to the club between 1991 and 1997, claiming two Bundesliga-titles and winning the UEFA Champions League once.

A true BVB-Legend. Sammer helped Dortmund claiming titles as a player as well as a manager just a few years later. The former Balon d'Or winner is currently in charge as the Director of Football at FC Bayern München, which lowers the chances that he would join Borussia Dortmund at this time.

Whoever Borussia Dortmund are going to appoint as the new Manager, the chosen one will have a huge mountain to climb, continuing what Jürgen Klopp has started.

Alot of names have been linked with Borussia Dortmund, after Klopp resigned from his job.
This afternoon, chairman Aki Watzke proudly revealed the clubs new Manager and surely surprised the bookies.

Jürgen Kohler is the man in charge, to continue Jürgen Klopps successful reign at Dortmund. Kohler is well-known among the BVB-supporters and they gladly remember him.

After successful years at Bayern München and Juventus Turin, he joined 'die Borussen' in 1995 to help them win the Bundesliga 1996 and 2002, UEFA Champions League and Intercontinental Cup in 1997, the DFL-Supercup in 1995 and 1996 and won the UEFA European Championship with the German National Team in 1996.


His career as a professional footballer ended with winning the Bundesliga in 2002. Over the last years, he has been managing several smaller teams, but didn't have the chance to prove himself at a higher reputation club so far.

This morning the BVB press room was packed, as the Chairman and the new manager were taking questions from the media.

J. Weiler, BILD.de:

Mr. Watzke, as Jürgen Kohler is a rather unexperienced manager, do you have any worries that he will struggle with the hughe challenge, he faces at Borussia Dortmund?

Aki Watzke:

Absolutely not. We wouldn't have hired Jürgen, if we had any worries that he might not be the right man for this job.

M. Krischik, WAZ:

Mr. Kohler, 12 years ago your career ended at this club. How does it feel to return today as a Manager?

Jürgen Kohler:

I love this club this club and it's an honor to be here. I have been following the clubss development over the years. I am absolutely happy to be in charge and hope we can continue the successful run, Klopp has started with this team.

What kind of players do you plan to bring in?

Jürgen Kohler:

I think during the last years, this club has shown, what a squad of young, hungry players can achieve and I have no intention to change this. You don't have to spend millions of euros on world class players, if you have a good youth academy and thats definitly the case, here at Borussia Dortmund.

J. Weiler, BILD.DE:

One last question Mr. Kohler: What are your expectations for the club this year?

Jürgen Kohler:

Our main goal is to qualify for the Champions League again. But regarding what an amazing squad of talented players we have here, we stand chances to hunt down Bayern München and reclaim the Bundesliga-title.

Kohler haven't been in charge for too long yet, but still rumours say, that he is looking to bring some new players to the club. The hottest name might be Youri Tielemans.

The RSC Anderlecht's 17 year old central midfielder is said to be one of the biggest talents of his era and has been linked with different clubs so far and it would need a big chunk of money, to tempt Anderlecht to sell him.

In an interview with german newspaper BILD, Jürgen Kohler said "Youri is an outstandig player and surely I would love to have him at this club, but I won't reveal any details on this topic."
However experts say, that it is more likely that Borussia Dortmund will make a move for him in one of the following transfer periods.


Current BVB goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller is already 33 years old and isn't getting any younger, so it makes sense that Borussia Dortmund will be looking for a replacement in the near future. Timo Horn, young and talented Köln goalkeeper, is said to be the leading candidate for this position.


They might also be looking to strengthen their defense, as Neven Subotic might leave the club to join a big BPL club and PSG currently negotiating about a possible deal for Lukasz Pisczek.



After Klopp spent a big amount of money for diverse transfers this summer, before leaving this club, Dortmund presumably won't be that active in the transfer market this year and might wanna approach to their bigger targets next summer transfer period.

Tielemans and Horn would be very good signings, and nice graphics!

Borussia Dortmund had a decent pre-season, although several first team players have been missing due to the FIFA World Cup 2014. This way, a few more players from Borussia Dortmund's U23-squad had the chance to impress the club's new manager.

Especially Oguzhan Aydogan, Jan Gorenc Stankovic and Marian Sarr looked really promising and we might see them playing for the first team this season.
For Borussia Dortmund, the season is now about to start with the DFL Supercup finale against FC Bayern München and every football fan in Germany is curious to see the two top clubs to fight each other.

Jürgen Kohler stated in the pre-match press conference, that he thinks it is important to win this match, as it can give the whole squad confidence to start a dominant season.


The Borussia Dortmund board today proudly announced, that they decided to trigger Timo Horn's Minimum Fee Release Clause of 4.800.000 € and agreed terms with the young and promising Goalkeeper, who has been playing for 1. FC Köln until today.
Horn is going to join the squad next week, when the FIFA World Cup winners return to the club.

After signing Matthias Ginter, "der BVB" now have signed one more young, talented player for their team, this season. In addition, they have loaned out 3 of their talents. Marvin Duksch is currently at loan at SC Paderborn, Jonas Hofmann is helping out at FSV Mainz 05 and Moritz Leitner continues his 2 year loan spell at VfB Stuttgart.

Jürgen Kohler said, that there will probably no more transfer activities during this transfer window, but you can never know what the future holds.

Today Neven Subotic left Borussia Dortmund after 6 years and despite the rumours in the last weeks, he isn't heading to England, but will join Real Madrid instead.

Insiders say that Ancelotti desperatly wanted to sign Mats Hummels, but after 'der BVB' wasn't willing to let the world class defender leave the club, they enquired for Neven Subotic instead.
After tough negotiations, Borussia Dortmund agreed to a lastminute deal of 22.500.000 €.

This deal made the way open, for the young, talented defenders like Stankovic, Ginter and Sarr, to prove themselves on the pitch and compete for a spot in the first team.

Borussia Dortmund will be happy about how the 2014/15 season started for them.
The early fixtures went really well for them and they can now continue their good run with confidence.

What a performance by Borussia Dortmund! Nobody expected them to win this match, but they dominated Bayern München right from the start.
Possession was the only thing, that was equal that day. While Weidenfeller had to save only 2 shots during this game, Manuel Neuer was tested by the Borussia Dortmund offense at all times of the game and Bayern were lucky, that Dortmund hit the woodwork multiple times this day.

This game went exactly how it was predicted and Viktoria Berlin didn't get a single shot this match. Although Borussia Dortmund struggled to hit the goal for a long time, new signing Ciro Immobile started the scoring in the last minutes of the first half. The second half definitly went much better for their side, except for Mats Hummels, who committed a totally unnecessary foul and was sent off right before the match was over.

Another dominant performance by 'die Borussen'. The team from Köln looked really willing to fight, even after the early goal by Milos Jojic. They scored the equalizer pretty fast and hold the draw until the halftime. Jürgen Kohler must have really encouraged his team during the halftime talk and so we saw a completely different Dortmund side in the second half. Köln collapsed really quick and especially Ciro Immobile put in a top class performance again.

A match to forget for 'die Borussen', as they team wasn't able to overcome the huge underdog in this match. Freiburg managed to keep this match completely equal, but their fans must be upset, they they didn't score any goal, despite having alot of big chances.

Borussia Dortmund's fixture list is now complete, after the draws for the Champions League Group Stage and the DFB Pokal 2nd Round have been made.


With Real Madrid, Dortmund surely didn't get the easiest draw. Nevertheless they should be able to overcome Zenit St. Petersburg and RSC Anderlecht and finish atleast in 2nd place, to qualify for the First Knockout Round.


Not the easiest draw for Borussia Dortmund. The bookies made them favourites, but with players like Roberto Firminho and Kevin Volland, Hoffenheim can surely prove them wrong.


'Die Borussen' could have wished for a better start, regarding the result against SC Freiburg.
They will find some relief from the fact, that no other club got more than 4 points from the first 2 matchdays.
