Liverpool vs. West Bromwich Albion: Pre-Match Analysis

http://www.wegoagain1892.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Liverpool-vs-West-Brom.jpg

2nd placed Liverpool travel to the Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion this Saturday, with new signing Chris Brunt hopefully making his debut against his old club.

West Brom have had a shaky start to the Premier League season, drawing two and losing one under th management with new manager Alan Irvine. Liverpool, on the other hand, have won two and drawn one in the month of the season with Robbie Fowler, who took second place in the Manager of the Month poll, barely losing out to Manchester City's Manuel Pellegrini.

Liverpool are currently sitting in 2nd place in the Premier League, and are currently mounting a serious title challenge this early into the season. West Bromwich Albion are 16th in the Premier League with 2 points, and are two places above the relegation zone, which they will be hoping not to be in come the end of the season.

With a team featuring players like Claudio Yacob, Brown Ideye and Graham Dorrans, all of them being physically and technically good players, West Brom should be looking to create an upset at the Hawthorns this Saturday, but will face a lot of opposition from Mario Balotelli, Lazar Markovic and Steven Gerrard, who will all be looking to put Liverpool ahead in the scoresheet and the table.

As for injuries, Daniel Sturridge has been officially ruled out of the match due to his injury, and Martin Skrtel is absent due to his suspension. Adam Lallana with rumoured to be playing today, but instead he has been ruled out with unfitness, the same going to Joe Allen.

Liverpool's new signing Chris Brunt starts his first Liverpool game on the bench against his old club, who he will be anxious to try and get a win against today. There is rumoured to be a good feeling about the meeting, and no bad blood is held between Brunt and Irvine.

The match will start at 15:00 on Saturday 13th September 2014 at the Hawthorns, where admission is £32.

West Bromwich Albion had their midfield to thank for keeping them within the match, as they continuously stopped the barrage that was Mario Balotelli and Philippe Coutinho during the secon half of the game at The Hawthorns.

West Brom Winger Silvestre Varela gave West Brom the lead with a deftly-executed finish in the 28th minute. Flamboyant striker Mario Balotelli then equalized for Liverpool in the 54th minute with a well struck effort which found it's way into the back of the net via. the goalpost.

Advanced Playmaker James Morrison then put West Brom back in front after 74 minutes with a close range effort. With time rapidly running out, tireless midfielder Jordan Henderson then scored a deftly executed finish from long range to equalize for Liverpool.

Better late than never for Liverpool and the fans were clearly delighted with Henderson's late impact that saved the game for their side.

Post-Match Manager Comments

Robbie Fowler: I can't say that I'm not disappointed. I thought that after a brilliant win against Leicester, we could transfer our momentum over to here, but it hasn't happened. I feel bad for the fans, they must be devastated, especially since we were losing for most of the match, and I have to apologize to them on behalf of myself and the Liverpool team and staff.

Alan Irvine: Well, I thought we dominated them, plain and simple. We were winning for most of the match and we held them off the best we could do. I am pleased with our performance and I believe this will definitely spur us on to get a win.

Liverpool vs. Zenit St. Petersburg: Pre-Match Analysis

http://puberty-spb.ru/shared/img/new_news/0_8ef58_d2f6954b_XL.jpg

Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg travel to Anfield this Tuesday to take on Premier League runners-up Liverpool in the first match of the Champions League Group A.

Zenit and their new manager Andre Villas-Boas have been dominating the Russian league so far this season, sitting at the top with 0 losses. They also dominated Feyenoord and FC Kobenhavn in the Champions League playoffs, and now they face a big challenge in Robbie Fowler's Liverpool side.

Liverpool have looked rather deadly so far this season in the Premier League, sitting comfortably in 3rd in the Premier League with 2 wins and 2 draws. Under the leadership of veteran Steven Gerrard and management of legend Robbie Fowler, Liverpool have reshaped their tactics and mentalities to improve on last season.

Zenit St. Petersburg have not made any transfers this window, but have not let anyone leave, keeping hold of veteran players like Danny, Alexandr Kerzhakov, Axel Witsel and Domenico Criscito. Liverpool on the other hand have signed four players this window for a combined fee of £27.25 million. With the likes of Chris Brunt, Marcel Schmelzer and Asmir Begovic reinforcing an already talented side, Zenit St. Petersburg will have a crisis on their hands to stop the barrage of attacks from Mario Balotelli and the rest of Liverpool's offensive players.

Adam Lallana is still out of action, as is Daniel Sturridge. Liverpool also lose the talented Lazar Markovic and Emre Can through suspensions. Zenit lose defensive midfielder Javi Garcia due to suspension.

The match will take place on Tuesday 16th September 2014 at 19:45 at Anfield, where admission is £45.
Can't be dropping points against Albion! Shame that a your injury list is growing.

Blue-White-Sky Blues strike Lucky

Zenit St. Petersburg continue their prolific and undefeated campaign with a 3-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield.

Experienced striker Alexandr Kerzhakov got Zenit off to a flying start by scoring a well-timed finish from close range on 8 minutes. An error from Liverpool's Alberto Moreno allowed inside forward Hulk to score a shot which owed an assist to the woodwork. Another error from Liverpool, this one being committed by Martin Skrtel, allowed deep-lying playmaker Victor Faizulin to score a placed shot to take Zenit's lead up to 3-0. Slovakia Captain Martin Skrtel then summed up Liverpool's performance by nearly gifting Zenit another goal in the 64th minute.

Wonderkid Raheem Sterling then pulled one back for Liverpool after 90 minutes with an incisive finish from 15 metres. It was a superb solo effort and Sterling looked delighted from the goal.

Substitutes

MOTM - Andrey Arshavin - The threat that the attacking midfielder posed with his passing ability constantly unsettled the Liverpool defence, which caused them to fall apart at various occasions and leave Begovic wide open.

Post-Match Manager Comments

Robbie Fowler: Disappointing performance, definitely. We fall apart at the back and were just not clinical and deadly enough at the front. Andrey Arshavin had a great game but th defenders made it easier for him to pass through them. We just weren't good enough, I'm afraid.

Andre Villas-Boas: I had no doubt that my lads would go out there and put on a show. It was pure brilliance, and I believed that we embarrassed Liverpool here tonight.

Liverpool vs. Queens Park Rangers: Pre-Match Analysis

http://www.qpr.co.uk/cms_images/liverpool64-1935704_613x460.jpg

League runners-up Liverpool take on newly-promoted side Queens Park Rangers this Saturday at Anfield as the Barclays Premier League rages on.

Liverpool have been touted as comfortable favourites but will have to be wary of complacency when taking on newly-promoted QPR, according to Sky Bet.

Liverpool are currently lying in 3rd place in the Barclays Premier League. If they fail to at least take a point in the upcoming fixture, Liverpool could drop out of the Champions League Qualification places. QPR, on the other hand, are currently lying in ninth in the Barclays Premier League with veteran manager Harry Redknapp leading them.

Queens Park Rangers have made two signings during the summer transfer window, adding Antolin Alcaraz from Everton and Liam Rosenior from Hull for a combined fee of £2.25 million pounds. Liverpool, on the other hand, have made quite a few signings this transfer window, bringing in Marcel Schmelzer, Chris Brunt, Martin Odegaard and Asmir Begovic, as well as the combined fee of £116 million that Brendan Rodgers spent before he left the club, bringing in Adam Lallana and Mario Balotelli, among others.

Daniel Sturridge is still a miss for Robbie Fowler's Liverpool side, while Adam Lallana is confirmed to be fit for action and will finally make his debut for Liverpool today.

The match will take place on 20th September 2014, 15:00 at Anfield, where admission will be £42.

Liverpool turned possession into goals with a 5-1 win over Queens Park Rangers. The highlight of the game was undoubtedly a superb hat-trick from Liverpool's Raheem Sterling.

Wonderkid Raheem Sterling gave Liverpool the lead with a well-timed close-range finish in the 15th minute. Q.P.R.'s equalizer came through Adel Taarabt as he seized on Dejan Lovren's mistake to score a placed shot which hit the inside of the post before crossing the line. An error from QPR's Sandro allowed Sterling to score a close range finish which was timed impeccably. Another error from Sandro allowed Sterling to once again score, this time with a well struck effort. Tireless midfielder Mauricio Isla then summed up his team's performance by nearly gifting Liverpool another goal on 58 minutes.

Lambert scored from the Penalty spot after Liam Rosenior gave away a penalty. Winger Junior Hoilett then nearly gifting Liverpool another goal on 72 minutes. An error from QPR's Leroy Fer allowed Liverpool's flamboyant winger Philippe Coutinho to score a deftly-executed finish.

Substitutes

MOTM - Raheem Sterling - The winger's movement and passing accuracy allowed Liverpool to attack QPR's defence many times, but his scoring ability allowed him to gain a hat-trick here tonight.

Post-Match Manager Comments

Robbie Fowler: I thought we did well against a team with the quality of QPR, especially Raheem Sterling with some cracking goals, he totally deserved the Man of the Match award. We've definitely improved from the Zenit match, definitely.

Harry Redknapp: Well, we knew that coming to a place like Anfield wouldn't do us any favours, and it hasn't. Even getting a point against Liverpool would have been a triumph, in my opinion, but looks like we haven't had too much luck in that way.

Capital One Cup - Liverpool vs. QPR: Pre-Match Analysis

http://www.teslabet.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Capital-One-Cup-Trophy-logo.jpg

League runners-up Liverpool are sure-firm favourites to overwhelm newly-promoted Q.P.R. in what should be a comfortable home encounter for the Reds, according to Sky Bet.

Liverpool went into this season's Capital One Cup expecting to at least reach the next round and face disappointing their expectant supporters if they are unable to make it that far. Queens Park Rangers have so far beat Plymouth Argyle to enter the round, but now face a hard challenge in the form of Liverpool. In their last meeting, Liverpool smashed Q.P.R. in the Premier League 5-1 at Anfield, with Raheem Sterling scoring a superb hat-trick past Robert Green, Q.P.R.'s goalkeeper.

Liverpool manager Robbie Fowler has admitted that he will be experimenting with his side during the match, and has confirmed that Liverpool's new signing, German startlet Emre Can, will make his debut in the Liverpool first team in the match. In other news, Daniel Sturridge is reportedly beginning to lightly train with the Liverpool squad once again, and may feature in the Newcastle game, but has been confirmed to miss the QPR game.

The winner of this match will then advance into the Fourth Round to face Aston Villa.

The match will take place on Tuesday 23rd September 2014 at 19:45 at Anfield, where admission is £42.

Q.P.R. enjoyed a considerable size advantage, weighing an average 8kg more per player, but were unable to overcome their much lighter opponents, perhaps proving that on a wet evening at Anfield at least, brains are more important than brawn.

Liverpool finally took the lead when England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard scored a close range finish which was timed impeccably on 61 minutes. Liverpool had a number of attempts at goal but their profligacy meant they didn't score as many as they maybe would've hoped to.

Starting XI

Asmir Begovic
Javi Manquillo
Martin Skrtel
Mamadou Sakho
Marcel Schmelzer
Lucas Leiva
Jordan Henderson
Emre Can
Steven Gerrard
Philippe Coutinho (inj 90)
Rickie Lambert

Substitutes

Simon Mignolet
Jon Flanagan
Raheem Sterling
Fabio Borini (on 90)
Glen Johnson
Lazar Markovic
Mario Balotelli

MOTM - Mamadou Sakho - The central defender showed defensive awareness by breaking up some of the opposition's attacking moves through interceptions.

Post-Match Manager Comments

Robbie Fowler: We got the double over Q.P.R. We beat them in the Premier League, and now we've knocked them out of the Capital One Cup. Honestly, I believe they are a really good side and didn't deserve to go out of the competition this early, but that is football. My lads did well out, Sakho especially as he got the Man of the Match award, and even though it was 1-0, the scoreline does not reflect our performance.

Harry Redknapp: Disappointing. I thought that this could be a tournament that we had a good chance of winning, but it seems that it just wasn't to be. I want to congratulate Mamadou Sakho on his Man of the Match award, he thoroughly deserved it and I thought that he closed down our attacks many times, which will help us improve them in the future.
