Kit Of The Week

Hello and welcome. I know this has been unsuccessful and inconstant in the past, but now it is time to turn over a new page – in that design book. This is the return of Kit of the Week (KOTW) – if you hadn’t guessed yet. I will try keep this going, as much as my life allows, and I think I have come up with a schedule that works. It is as follows:
- Monday: New club revealed
- Wednesday: Kits due in
- Thursday: Public vote up
- Saturday/Sunday (Depending on the time I have): Winner revealed

The club chosen for each week will be

So, the aim. The aim of this is to create the best kit, the one that the most members of the FMScout community and the public like the most. Each week, I will reveal a new club to create kits for, with the base colours. For example, if I had chosen PSG, I would say something along the lines of ‘This week’s challenge is to create kits for French club, PSG – the base colours are blue (the main colour), red and white’. This means these colours need to be on the home kit at least (only the main colour has to definitely feature – so for example, I could create a home kit with just blue and white or blue and red). The away kit can be any colour, but the more realistic it is, the more chance there is of you being winner.

Once you have done your entry, you need to PM it to me, saying what each one is (Home/Away/Third). If you miss the deadline, its tough luck, I am afraid, unless there is an exceptional circumstance.

The scoring system will change too. The winner of the public vote will receive 5 points, second place will get 2 and third will get 1. The person at the top of the leaderboard is the winner of this season’s KOTW. If there is a draw – there will be a ‘Kit Off’. The two tying kits will be reposted as a new vote and the winner will take that place. It’s that simple. I wish you luck and hope you enjoy getting creative.

Week One: Across the Pond

Welcome to the first challenge of Kit of the Week 2015. And to mark the special occasion, there will be a twist. That twist is two kits instead of one. Yes, you heard that right. So, let’s reveal who you are designing kits for this week!

Challenge One: Club América

Club de Fútbol América S.A. de C.V., commonly known as Club América or América, is a Mexico City-based professional football club. It competes in Liga MX, the top professional league in the country. The team's nickname is Las Águilas (The Eagles). América is the most successful club in Mexico. Domestically, the club has a record twelve league titles. América also have eight FIFA recognized international club trophies, the most for a club from the CONCACAF region and tying them with Santos FC, Olimpia, and Étoile du Sahel worldwide. They have won five CONCACAF Champions' Cups, two Copa Interamericana cups, and one CONCACAF Giants Cup. They play their home games at the Estadio Azteca, which has a capacity of 104,000 fans.

When Club América was founded in 1916, the crest consisted of the letter 'C', standing for "Club", overlapped by an 'A', which stood for "América". After a brief period in which the team's name was changed to Club Unión, it was reverted to Club América in the mid-1920s, and the crest was modified, with a map of the Americas behind the 'CA', and encased in a football, all in the team's colours - which where cream and blue. Since then, the badge has seen minimal change, such as the removal of a line at the crest's centre at the beginning of the 21st century. During the early 1980s, the crest was surrounded by an image of an eagle (due to the club's nickname), and was even enclosed in a triangle. The most recent modification of the crest was in 2010, with the yellow and blue more vibrant and a darker outline and border.

Club founder Rafael Garza Gutiérrez chose what would be América's first uniform. He took some of his father's navy blue trousers and a yellow-cream shirt and it was decided amongst the other players that those would be the club's colours. It would not be until the 1980s that the colours changed, with the cream replaced with a more solid yellow. América also played with a white shirt, but it was not as common. Their current kit manufacturers are Nike, and are currently sponsored by Bimbo and Coca Cola.

Base Colours

MAIN COLOUR: YELLOW (HEX: #fff200)or
LIGHT YELLOW: (HEX: #fdf296)

CREAM: (HEX #FFFDD0)
NAVY BLUE: (HEX: #00275d)
RED: (HEX: #eb3b34)
WHITE: (HEX: #ffffff)
You can use other colours, these are just here for guidance, and only the main colour has to be used.

Reason

My reason for choosing this club is to expand horizons. I don’t want to stick to big, well known or European clubs when deciding the challenges, I want to travel to every corner of the globe, and promote clubs you may have never even considered. Also, on my current FM14 save, I am managing the club, and thoroughly enjoying it, so I thought why not?

Challenge Two: United States Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT)

The United States men's national soccer team, often referred to as the USMNT, represents the United States in international soccer. The team has appeared in the last seven FIFA World Cups and hosted the 1994 edition.

Since their first unofficial game against Canada, the uniforms have frequently featured white tops with blue shorts. In 1950, the U.S. adopted a Peru style, featuring a diagonal stripe across the shirt. The stripe has been on third kits for 2003, 2004, and 2006, as well as the 2010 home, away and third kits. Adidas provided the uniforms for the United States from 1985 until 1994. Since 1995, Nike has been the uniform supplier. The away kit is historically navy blue, with red and white details.

Base Colours

MAIN COLOUR: WHITE: (HEX: #ffffff)
NAVY BLUE: (HEX: #1e1f57)
RED: (HEX: #df0b10)
You can use other colours, these are just here for guidance, and only the main colour has to be used.

Reason

Until recently, unlike other areas of the world, football (or soccer) was on the backburner in the US. However, recent successes at the 2010 and 2014 World Cup’s has produced even more interest in soccer across the pond, and slowly, its becoming one of the major sports out there. Therefore, I thought the second challenge should be the USMNT.

Other Details

Despite this being posted early (Saturday, 11 April 2015), the due date will still be as scheduled (Wednesday, 15th April 2015) due to two kits. PM ME YOUR SUBMISSIONS. You need at least a home and away kit, and you can produce a third if you want. You don't need to use the current sponsor and/or logo (use a historic one within reason or create your own). You don’t have to do both challenges, but if you do, there will be more chance of you getting points as both challenges are worth separate points to kick-start the leaderboard. Don't show anybody else your kits or it'll ruin the element of surprise to the poll. If you have any questions, PM me, or DM on Twitter: @Tallery. I wish you luck, let the design-off commence!

Week One: The Results

So, the results are in. Kit of the Week definitely returned with a bang, and of course some quality kits. There was a total of eight different entries across the two different challenges, showing that the future of the competition is bright. Well, now, without further-a-do, lets reveal this weeks winner!

USMNT Results

So, Louis O. won the challenge without any troubles, collecting a total of 10 votes out of the 18 cast, giving him a percentage of 55.6%. His unique design of the home kit captured the heart of many voters, helping him to his landslide victory. In second place comes Tallery (aka me) with a grand total of four votes of the 18 cast, giving him (or me) a total of 22.2%. Third place was a draw between Zap and J_Skinna_39, who collected 2 votes each for their kits, giving them each a percentage of 11.1%.

Club América Results

Louis O. also wins this challenge, although it being more of a close call. Louis’ beautifully designed kits are simple yet stylish, attracting a total of 7 votes out of the 20 cast, giving him a total percentage of 35%. Second place was a draw, with Tallery (me) and Zap gathering 5 votes each, giving a total percentage of 25% each. Third place goes to J_Skinna_39, who collected 3 votes for his efforts, not a bad amount for someone who is creating kits for this first time.

Leaderboard

So, with two wins, Louis O. shoots to the top of the leaderboard with a maximum total of 10 points, not a bad tally to start off with. Second place goes to Tallery (me) who is on 4 points with two second place finishes. Third place currently goes to Zap, who has a total of 3 points, and J_Skinna is in 4th with a total of 2 points.

So, that rounds up this week’s challenge. Next week’s will be revealed on Monday, but time to give you a hint: It will be an English club. The first person to guess correctly and comment on the thread will gain an extra two points on their total for next week. Good luck!

Week Two: You Are Hired!

So, the first KOTW Challenge is done and dusted, and no one got the extra points, unfortunately – but there was some pretty good, and unusual guesses, and I’ll give you credit for that. Now, for round two:

Challenge Three: Liverpool

Liverpool Football Club is a Premier League football club based in Liverpool. The club have won more European trophies than any other English team with five European Cups, three UEFA Cups and three UEFA Super Cups. They have also won eighteen League titles, seven FA Cups and a record eight League Cups, although they are yet to win a Premier League title since its inception in 1992. Liverpool were founded in 1892 and joined the Football League the following year. They have played at Anfield since its formation. The most successful period in Liverpool's history was the 1970s and '80s when Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley led the club to eleven league titles and seven European trophies.

For much of Liverpool's history its home colours have been all red, but when the club was founded its kit was more like the contemporary Everton kit. The blue and white quartered shirts were used until 1894, when the club adopted the city's colour of red. The city's symbol of the liver bird was adopted as the club's badge in 1901, although it was not incorporated into the kit until 1955. Liverpool continued to wear red shirts and white shorts until 1964, when manager Bill Shankly decided to change to an all red strip. Liverpool played in all red for the first time against Anderlecht.

The Liverpool away strip has more often than not been all yellow or white shirts and black shorts, but there have been several exceptions. An all grey kit was introduced in 1987, which was used until the 1991–92 centenary season, when it was replaced by a combination of green shirts and white shorts. After various colour combinations in the 1990s, including gold and navy, bright yellow, black and grey, and ecru, the club alternated between yellow and white away kits until the 2008–09 season, when it re-introduced the grey kit. A third kit is designed for European away matches, though it is also worn in domestic away matches on occasions when the current away kit clashes with a team's home kit. The current kits are designed by Warrior Sports, who became the club's kit providers at the start of the 2012–13 season. In February 2015, Warrior's parent company New Balance announced it would be entering the global football market, with teams sponsored by Warrior now being outfitted by New Balance. The only other branded shirts worn by the club were made by Umbro until 1985, when they were replaced by Adidas, who produced the kits until 1996 when Reebok took over. They produced the kits for ten years before Adidas made the kits from 2006 to 2012.

Liverpool was the first English professional club to have a sponsor's logo on its shirts, after agreeing a deal with Hitachi in 1979. Since then the club has been sponsored by Crown Paints, Candy, Carlsberg and Standard Chartered Bank. The contract with Carlsberg, which was signed in 1992, was the longest-lasting agreement in English top-flight football. The association with Carlsberg ended at the start of the 2010–11 season, when Standard Chartered Bank became the club's sponsor.

The Liverpool badge is based on the city's liver bird, which in the past had been placed inside a shield. In 1992, to commemorate the centennial of the club, a new badge was commissioned, including a representation of the Shankly Gates. The next year twin flames were added at either side are symbolic of the Hillsborough memorial outside Anfield, where an eternal flame burns in memory of those who died in the Hillsborough disaster. In 2012, Warrior Sports' first Liverpool kit removed the shield and gates, returning the badge to what had adorned Liverpool shirts in the 1970s; the flames were moved to the back collar of the shirt, surrounding the number 96 for number who died at Hillsborough.

Base Colours:

MAIN COLOUR: RED (HEX: #ff0000)
WHITE: (HEX: #ffffff)
YELLOW: (HEX: #ffed0f)
GREY: (HEX: #e1e1e1)
You can use other colours, these are just here for guidance, and only the main colour has to be used.

Reason

Liverpool are the first club to reveal their kit for next season, under the new manufacturer New Balance. Personally, I don’t like the kits, and therefore, I thought maybe it would be interesting to see what people think a good Liverpool kit looks like.

Other Details

The due date will still be as scheduled (Wednesday, 22th April 2015). PM ME YOUR SUBMISSIONS. You need at least a home and away kit, and you can produce a third if you want. You don't need to use the current sponsor and/or logo (use a historic one within reason or create your own). Don't show anybody else your kits or it'll ruin the element of surprise to the poll.
