UNLOYAL OR SMART? ROSENBERG JOINS FEYENOORD
Former AFC Ajax player and Swedish international Markus Rosenberg is ready to join Feyenoord for fee of £2 million.
Markus Rosenberg officialy signed for Feyenoord earlier today. The swedish international have been doing bad for his current club Malmø FC lately, and there was no suprise that they let him go sooner or later. With only 14 goals in 31 matches for a guy that was expected to lead his club to glory is pretty poor, so a big club like Feyenoord picking him up is quite a suprise.
Even though Rosenberg havent impressed in Malmø, he has had an amazing career playing at different major clubs in Europe, such as Feyenoord rivals Ajax, german Werder Bremen, spanish second devision team Racing de Santander and last but not least West Bromwich Albion.
As written in the paragraph above, Rosenberg is a former AFC Ajax player. Ajax and Feyenoord are two clubs with a lot of history about them, both on and of the pitch. Ajax and Feyenoord where the two most dominant teams in Holland back in the days, so it was quite obvious that these two teams would become a great rival. Nobody would have thought that it would go this far though.
Feyenoord (which is thought of as the christian club of Holland) fans started shouting extremly racist chants to the Ajax (which is thought of as the jewish club of Holland) supporters. They started making sounds of gas, as they were refering to WW2 and the way the nazis killed jews.
Amsterdam is split in half, as some people are wanting Rosenberg to die and is dissapointed that he made the decision to join their rivals. The other half is more natural about this and in their opinion Rosenberg has any right to join any club that he want. They say this because Rosenberg has been playing for a lot of different clubs in the period between now and when he played for Ajax.
“I used to love Markus, but after he chose to go to Feyenoord I have lost all faith in him. He is dead to me” was the words of an random Ajax supporter we interviewed on the street.
Another fan said this when he got asked what he thought about the recent transfer:
“Well, he played for us a long while a go and I dont think he has any feelings for the club. I don’t mind him joining Feyenoord at the moment. He is not doing anything wrong trying to get his career back on track.
Markus Rosenberg himself dont seem to worried about his history with Ajax, and think that this is accactually the challange he need to get his career back on and going. This is the highlights from his interview with Feyenoord TV:
“First of all, welcome to Feyenoord! How do you feel about being here after all?”
“Well, so far it has been great. I have met both the players and the manager and I feel like this is the step forward that I need to take if I want to get my career back on track.”
“Do you think that your past with Ajax will make a difference about your preformances?”
“Not at all. While playing at Ajax I had a great time and I always enjoyed playing away matches at Feijnoord Stadium. Everything from the grass to the atmosphere felt so great. I have a lot of respect for Ajax, but Feyenoord is the club that I am playing for so that is the one in my heart at the moment.”
“What are your thoughts about what you think that you can achieve with with this club?”
“I hope that I can manage to put in at least two good seasons with Feyenoord. I hope that we can challange for the title already this year, and hopefully we can win it as well. If I complete my goal of two decent seasons with this club, I will be 33. After that I have no idea what I am going to do. My contract with Feyenoord lasts until 2018 so I guess only time will show what is going to happen with me in the future.”
Feynoord manager Pierre van Hoojidonk recently joined the club himself after taking over after Fred Rutten earlier this year. Hoojidonk have been very actuve in the transfer market so far, and seem to be very clear with which players that is a part of his plan and who dont. He got interviewed by NOS where he got asked about what his thoughs are on the new transfer:
“Markus Rosenberg has signed for your club today. What was going through your head while making this transfer?”
“Markus is a guy that has had a pat retty bad season with Malmø, and is looking to get his career back on track. Because of his bad form latly, we have managed to get him on pretty cheap, which is something I am very happy about. While buying him we thought about how and why this was the best option for both parts. We will do our best to help him with his career while he will do his best trying to lead this club to victory.”
