John Carver found dead in family home

A 50-year-old man believed to be Newcastle United boss John Carver has been found shot dead near the front door of his house in Newcastle, police say.
Officers were called to a home in Newcastle upon tyne shortly before midnight last night and found the body of a 50-year-old man with gunshot wounds inside the house near the door.

A crime scene was established at the home and local police, with the assistance of the Dog Unit, searched the surrounding area.

Newcastle Local Area Commander Superintendent Peter Lennon said the man was yet to be formally identified but if it was the person they believed, it will be a tragic loss to everyone involved with the club

John Carver's wife has said John went down stairs as he heard a knock on the door, but what she heard next was 3 gunshots, as she ran downstairs to see if her husband had been hit, but as she reached the bottom of the stairs she seen John lying on the floor in a pool blood. it is believed the shooter has got away with no witnesses coming forward.

Police will look at CCTV footage from nearby houses for anything that could be related to the shooting.
Police urged anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.

Nice start, will be interesting to see how this goes and will be a very good story if you play your cards right ;) Lots of potential here, I'll be following.

Friends and family gather as John Carver laid to rest

The private funeral of Newcastle United football manager John Carver has taken place near where he grew up.
The League Managers' Association (LMA) said only family and close friends had attended the funeral.

It was held in his hometown, close to family and friends. The LMA is planning to hold a public memorial service soon.

the local council opened a book of remembrance in Carver's memory on Thursday, saying it shared the grief of his family and the public.

Carver, 50, was shot dead at his home in Newcastle last month.

"He has been a role model and a mentor for others," said council chief executive Colin Everett.

"The communities of Newcastle upon tyne are all very proud of John's achievements, from being a footballer to a manager."

Football fans have left wreaths outside Carver's home to remember Carver, with a minute's silence at every English Premier League fixture on the 16th August.

The search begins

Newcastle United seem increasingly likely to recruit from abroad as their search for John Crvers's replacement intensifies.
Rémi Garde, the former Lyon coach, Thomas Tuchel, previously in charge of Mainz, and St Etienne’s Christophe Galtier are all under consideration as Newcastle’s work out a shortlist for a new manager.

None of the leading contenders are british. Steve McClaren commands admiration inside St James’ Park, but the former England and Middlesbrough coach is committed to remaining at Derby and feels it would be disloyal to his players to depart so early in the season as theyre expected to make a promotion push.

“I’m going nowhere,” he said on Tuesday. “I don’t want to let people here down. You’ve got to show loyalty. I’ve got a job to do here.”

If the possibility of Newcastle changing McClaren’s mind appears virtually non-existent, Mike Ashley does not lack candidates as he considers appointing the first overseas coach of his time at St James’ Park. Newcastle’s owner has delegated the hunt for the new manager – or “head coach”, as the club term it – to Graham Carr, his influential chief scout, and Lee Charnley, the managing director. After signing a raft of players from Ligue 1, Carr has excellent contacts in France in particular.

Carr is said to have been impressed with Garde’s work at Lyon before his resignation for personal reasons. The 48-year-old former Arsenal defensive midfielder cited a combination of exhaustion and family concerns as prompting his decision to quit but Carr may try to persuade him a change is as good as a rest.

Current odds for the Managerial job at Newcastle United
