Transfer Roundup: Summer 2014

Coming into the club on the back of a successful season, I was presented with a squad which could be doing with some strengthening; we were straight into the group stages of the Champions League, and we had to be able to hold our own against massive clubs

With a limited transfer budget, I thought it was important to bring in some big names on structured deals - I'll likely be at Ajax for some time, so deals lasting over 48 months of payments were my go to, and they allowed us to bring in some huge names for the club that should represent some great business. The transfer fees provided are the full value of the transfer, not how much we paid up front (this can be found in brackets alongside the full value)

Transfers In

Sergi Samper - Barcelona - Loan
Jesus Vallejo - Zaragoza - £1.1m
Lucas Romero - £10.75m (4.2m)
Andrea Bertolacci - Roma/Genoa - £1.1m/£2m
Alex Serrano - Roma - £13.25m (3.2m)
Muhammed Mert - Fortuna Sittard - Free
Dimitri Payet - OM - £8m (2.5m)

Transfers Out

Ilan Boccara - Almere City - Loan
Riechedly Bazoer - Koln - Loan
Fabian Sporkslede Almere City- Loan
Jairo Riedewald - AZ - Loan
Lasse Schone - Galatasaray - £5m
Muhammed Mert - Konyaspor - Loan

Overall, i'm pleased with the deals we've done, and I can't wait to see how the new players fit into the squad

Monthly Roundup: August 2014

For a first month in charge, I could Imagine better ways this month could have gone - two defeats and a draw did derail our start somewhat, but the wins against ADO and Twente were encouraging performances which have given us some hope for the coming season.

Our first game saw Sergi Samper open the scoring after just 8 minutes, immediately endearing himself to our fans: the young Spaniard latched onto a cross field pass from fellow midfielder Lucas Romero, beating two defenders before lofting the ball over the advancing goalkeeper. Arkadiusz Millik and Ricardo Kishna also scored, cancelling out the 2-1 lead that ADO had built by half-time, eventually giving us a hard-fought win

Our next two games saw us turn in performances that were nothing short of shambolic - passes were mislaid, tackles were mis-timed, and our defence was frankly appalling. Against Vitesse, I would have expected to come away with more than a draw, but goals from Niki Zimling and Davy Klaasen weren't quite enough to seal the win.

We finally broke our winless streak in the last game of the month, against FC Twente - one of the league's better sides. A long range strike from Arkadiusz put us 1-0 up early on, and from there it was all one-way traffic, as we passed and moved in a way which was utterly foreign in comparison to our previous 3 games. Ricardo Kishna sealed the win with 20 minutes to go, and we looked to be in a position to build some momentum going into next month.

Note: This month's update is a bit short, but updates for following months will also have league tables, next months fixtures and some extra analysis...let me know what you think
Not the best month, but a good place to start. The short quick update is actually quite refreshing :P
