A New Era

After the disappointment of last season and the tight finish to it, Newcastle United began the search to appoint a new manager, one who could lead them to success once again and the chosen one was none other than ex Derby manager, Steve McClaren. It was no surprise to the fans, as he was linked with the job for a while and despite the fall of Derby at the end of the season, they all seemed delighted with the appointment.

Last campaign seemed to be going brilliantly after the whole 'Pardew Out' saga at the beginning of the season, where the Magpies had one of the worst starts of their history, but then he turned it round, then however, the fans were shocked to hear that he had departed the club for Crystal Palace for a 'new challenge.'

Then came John Carver, the new interim manager, who ended up lasting the rest of the campaign and the great fall. 'Castle had fell right into the relegation battle after little to no points were picked up, however, when a win was vital, Carver and co managed to survive for another year after the 'Jonas Gutierrez show.'

But despite Carver just about keeping the club in the top flight, the board felt he wasn't right for the team and therefore wasn't appointed manager, much to the delight of the fans, who had wanted Carver sacked after just several games in charge.

Fans said that it was 'fantastic' and 'the right choice' that Carver wasn't chosen to take the job and that the appointment of Steve McClaren was 'a perfect choice and fit for the club'

Whereas the man himself, McClaren said, "I'm delighted to be here and can't wait to get the season started, I want to impress the fans and most importantly turn the ship around and in the right direction, last season wasn't good enough and there is no reason why we couldn't aim for Europa League football for the upcoming season!"
