Arsenal released a statement saying 'We thank Arsene Wenger for all he has done in the eighteen years he has been at the club and we wish him all the luck in the future. We felt that Wenger has not achieved that over the last ten years as we could have done.'
Former Arsenal players Thierry Henry says that Arsenal have made a mistake sacking Wenger.'Arsenal have made a mistake sacking Wenger as the club will not get a better manager at this moment in time. He has been one of the top managers in England and has a vast amount of experience.' Speculation as to whom Wenger's successor will be has been rife. Diego Simeone has been mentioned but is under contract at Atletico Madrid. Jurgen Klopp who recently left Dortmund but is taking a sabbatical from football has also been mentioned but Arsenal will have to tempt him from taking a break. Carlo Ancelotti who was sacked by real Madrid a year after delivering 'La Decima' has also been touted as a replacement for Arsene Wenger.
