MLS Elite - November 2014

Matches

Oklahoma City FC 2 - 2 Nashville FC
It looked like Oklahoma City would win this one handily with Aaron Wheeler's brace, but Dan O'Brien and Dennis Chin responded with goals to salvage a draw.

Christian Duke was named to MLSE Team of the Week.

MLS Cup 2nd Round
Nashville FC 2 - 3 Minnesota United
Minnesota United is notable for Miguel Ibarra, who was called up to the US national team despite playing in "second division" NASL, although he now plays for Leon in Mexico IRL. Minnesota United is a strong team compared to us and on this day they were better although we battled hard, we just made too many mistakes and dug too big a hole.

FC Edmonton 1 - 2 Nashville FC
Another massive trip to play a game on short rest. After a dull first half, Jon Gruenewald responds to encouragement by scoring a goal to take the lead. Tomi Amoebi equalizes for Edmonton, but Stefan Jerome gives us the lead again. Edmonton pull the goalie late for a final corner, but it's knocked away and we get a vital road win.

Nashville FC 1 - 1 New Orleans Jesters
A bore draw, although we would've lost if Stefan Jerome didn't score a sensational goal.

Nashville FC 3 - 0 San Francisco City FC
Michael Kafari and Michael Tetteh don't usually score, but they did to lead Nashville FC to victory this match, and Stefan Jerome capped the game with a goal of his own.

Kyle Manscuk and Michael Kafari were named to the Team of the Week!

FC Wichita 1 - 1 Nashville FC
We got lucky when Jordan Stewart missed a penalty for Wichita. Calen Carr took the lead for Wichita, and it looked like they would win, but 35-year old Serbian Boris Milicic came off the bench to score from 25 yards and salvage a point.

MLS Elite Table

We are in 2nd in our conference, but look at Indy Eleven! They have gone a half season undefeated. How long will they continue to go? They have to be the favorites for the playoffs at this point.
Indy will go undefeated until you meet them next time! I just realized this, but there must be some serious jet lag amongst other things with the away trips!

MLS Elite - December 2014

Matches

Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 3rd Round
Seattle Sounders 3 - 2 Nashville FC after extra time
True fact: The Sounders are part-owned by WWE Hall of Famer Drew Carey. Also, if this was an NFL game there would be grunge music (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc) leading into each commercial break. To our credit, we battled back to force extra time after going down 2-0 early, but the Sounders scored a goal in extra time.

Nashville FC 4 - 2 Indy Eleven
Just three days after playing 120 minutes against Seattle Sounders, and having to play a center mid at center back, Nashville FC hand Indy Eleven their first loss of the season. It was 1-1 at halftime, but starting with goalkeeper Kristian Nicht's own goal, Nashville FC willed their way to a 4-1 lead. Indy Eleven got back to 4-2, but couldn't fight back any more and lost for the first time.

Carolina Railhawks 1 - 2 Nashville FC
Michael Tetteh had a sensational game, crossing to Dennis Chin who finished with a spectacular bicycle kick for the first goal, and cutting in himself from the left and slipping it in near post behind the keeper for the winning goal. Also, Wichita and Indy Eleven play to a 5-5 draw.

Tetteh was named to the Team of the Week and came in 2nd for Player of the Week.

AFC Cleveland 2 - 4 Nashville FC
Cleveland pulled back after we got an early 2-0 lead, but we pulled away again for another win. Dennis Chin and Stefan Jerome were fantastic.

Stefan Jerome was named Player of the Week, and he and Tetteh were named to Team of the Week.

MLS Elite Table

We are catching up to Indy Eleven, and we're comfortably in the playoff places, as usual.

Transfer Window opens

The winter transfer window has opened, and Nashville FC can finally formally present two new players: Center back Jonathan Woodgate, last of Middlesbrough, and left back/left midfielder Nacho, last of Real Betis. Both are in their mid-30s, and are on one year contracts. They still have something left to offer, but these are clearly stopgap measures to improve the team.
Great results, including a comeback against Seattle, to which you almost beat them. Did Dempsey say anything to the ref ;)? Called it on the Indy Eleven win though :P

MLS Elite - January 2015

Matches

Nashville FC - Fort Lauderdale Strikers
Ft. Lauderdale's Ivan Guerrero made a crucial mistake in playing Christian Duke onside which allowed him to score the winning goal.

New Orleans Jesters 0 - 2 Nashville FC
It looked to be a bore draw, but a late surge of goal-scoring from Bryan Leyva and Tyler Bellamy (on a corner) gave us the win.

- Nashville FC sign right back Jackson, last of Coritiba, to a contract on a free transfer. They have unregistered Teddy Schneider.

Nashville FC 1 - 0 FC Wichita
"Get creative!" and Stefan Jerome did, capping off a spectacular run with an even more spectacular shot to give us the victory.

Transfer Activity
In:
Javier Toledo (target striker) from Lobos Prepa, $110K
Brayan Martinez (advanced striker) from CF Merida, $2.1M
Michelle Castro (right midfielder) from Celaya, $275K

Out:
Boris Milicic to Crvenz Zvezda, $14.5K

Indy Eleven 0 - 0 Nashville FC
New signings Jackson, Brayan Martinez, Javier Toledo, and Michelle Castro were thrown into the fire in their debuts, but both teams struggled and couldn't score, leaving this to be a 0-0 draw.

Nashville FC 2 - 0 FC Edmonton
Brayan Martinez scored his first goal, a nice effort from 20 yards, and not to be left out, Javier Toledo also scored his first goal in this match.

MLS Elite Table

We're on top of the Western Conference, and if my math is correct, we only need 6 more points to make the playoffs, although we'll certainly battle hard every match.

MLS Elite - February/March 2015

Matches

San Francisco City FC 2 - 2 Nashville FC
Jonathan Woodgate rebounded a goal in on a corner and Michelle Castro scored his first goal cutting in from the right, but SF stole a draw because our fitness failed us late and Jonathan Top scored two quick goals late.

Nashville FC 1 - 0 San Antonio Scorpions
Brayan Martinez scored on a wonderful shot from distance to give us the win, which secures one of the playoff spots for us.

Memphis Rogues 0 - 2 Nashville FC
Dennis Chin got back on the scoring wagon by converting a penalty, and Brayan Martinez continued his run by scoring a goal in this match, too. John Michael Hayden broke his arm and will miss 7-8 weeks.

Nashville FC 1 - 0 FC Birmingham
Once again, Brayan Martinez proved the difference with his goalscoring ability.

Milwaukee Bavarians 1 - 1 Nashville FC
We were battling injuries, and got beset by even more injuries, and Milwaukee are battling to stay in the second division, so it was tough to break Milwaukee down, and a draw was probably a fair result here. Dennis Chin gashed his leg and will miss 3 weeks.

MLS Elite Table

All we can do now is hope our injuries can heal as much as possible in the final course of the regular season and not generate too many new injuries.
8 pts clear from Indy, although it could turn into 5.. Get top spot, and hopefully your injured players will return by the time you enter playoffs!
Great month again :)

MLS Elite - April 2015

Matches

Detroit City 0 - 3 Nashville
Christian Duke ran the show from midfield, scoring two goals, including a very sensational strike at range, and picked out precision passes at will.

Nashville 4 - 0 Oklahoma City

Nashville 4 - 1 Tampa Bay
We end the regular season strong, but Woodgate twisted his knee and will be out 3-4 weeks.

MLS Elite Table

We've got top seed, time to win this thing.

Playoff Bracket

Great month as you only conceded once and scored 11.. Talk about morale-winnings prior to play-offs! I think you're fully capable of winning the damn thing. Are the key-players fit?

Playoff Bracket - Conference Semifinals

Not only is the following two match series for a spot in the Conference Finals, it's for promotion.

Wichita 0 - 1 Nashville
It was a tough match, but Tyler Bellamy waded through the muck on a corner kick and got the important goal to give us a one goal lead heading into the home leg.

Nashville 4 - 2 Wichita
We win 5-2 on aggregate, and Michelle Castro was ever-present in the match, picking up 3 assists, by way of drawing two penalties and dishing a cross to Brayan Martinez for the final goal.

Playoff Bracket - Conference Finals

San Antonio Scorpions 2 - 0 Nashville

Nashville 2 - 0 San Antonio Scorpions (3 - 0 after extra time)
The winning goal was scored by the defender making a backpass to the keeper, who missed the ball. Good job.

The New York Cosmos win on penalties to advance to the final.

MLS Elite Championship

Nashville 2 - 0 New York Cosmos
We got revenge for our loss earlier in the season when it mattered most, and led early and all the way on, although it took until late to seal the deal.
Hehe. Good job. Well done on the wins in the semi-final and both finals!
