Koeman wants to mount Champs League Push
In his first press conference since the end of last season Southampton Boss Ronald Koeman talked about his belief to mount as serious push for Champions League qualification which he believes should be within their reach during the next few seasons if not the upcoming one due to the clubs superb development over the past few seasons.
Koeman is considered by most to have signed intelligently so far this season bringing in Cedric Soares,Jordie Clasie,Juanmi and Cuco Martina for a combined fee of around 30 million while still making a profit due to the significant outlays from the departures of Nathnaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin to Liverpool and Man United respectively, whilst also bringing in Martin Stekelenburg and Steven Caulker on loan.
The pick of the new signings are probably Clasie and Soares who the burden of replacing Clyne and Schneiderlin will fall to, however young Spanish striker Juanmi who was capped by his national team after having a breakout season with Malaga and could prove to be one of the seasons surprise packages alongside loanee Steven Caulker who will be trying to resurrect his career after a disappointing time at QPR.
Jordy Clasie will be trying to fill the hole left by Schneiderlin's departure to Liverpool
Koeman also explained that he was looking to sign a central defender to fill the void left by the expiration of Toby Alderweireld's loan expiring and a failure to make the deal permanent, rumours as to who will sign for this role include Virgil van Dijk, Winston Reid and Scott Dann.
In other positions the club are rumoured to be interested in signing Oriol Romeu as well as a striker to replace underperforming Graziano Pelle whose performances faded off after a terrific start to last season.
Winston Reid is rumoured to be near the top of Koeman's transfer targets
