So, the start of my AFC Wimbledon save on FM16 begins, and I am aiming to take the reigns at Kingsmeadow, and lead the club from the basement of the Football League, to the pinnacle of English football, the top of the Premier League, and to hopefully get a few Champions League medals under my belt, this will be one of two saves I will post on this site in FM16, along with my boyhood and hometown club, Darlington, with similar aims.
July:
AFC Wimbledon 3-6 Watford
My career started with a disappointing 6-3 loss at home to Watford, in the FM Cup, with Andy Barcham grabbing a brace for us, and Tom Elliot also chipping in with a good finish from the edge of the box, but Watford's Premier League quality was obviously going to be too much for us, and they won the game with goals from Victor Ibarbo, Odion Ighalo, Tommie Hoban and Ikechi Anya, with Alessandro Diamanti scoring a brace.
Attendance: 3,783
Sutton United 5-6 AFC Wimbledon
In the second game of my short career at The Fans' Stadium, I won my second game in spectacular fashion, in an eleven goal thriller! Our goalscorers were, Andy Barcham, Tom Elliot and both Egli Kaja and Lyle Taylor grabbing doubles, but our problem at the moment is conceding goals, as we conceded six against Watford, and now five against Sutton United, their goalscorers being Stuart Fleetwood, Shaun Cooper, Dan Flichett, Jamie Collins and a disappointing own goal from William Nightingale, where the ball rebounded off his back after Shaun Cooper's header hit the post. In this game, there were a lot of positives on show, but also some negatives.
Attendance: 545
Dover 5-5 AFC Wimbledon
Again, a similar game to the Sutton United game, absolutely brilliant attacking, but the defending seems to be so weak, and most sides we play are scoring three out of every five shots they have, which is not good enough if we are going to be challenging for the playoffs towards the end of the season, with Dover unfortunately scoring a late equaliser, to make it 5-5 with virtually the last kick of the game, we need to work on our defence if we are to compete with the likes of Plymouth, Portsmouth and Leyton Orient, as we can't be dropping points to lower ranked sides!
Goalscorers: Egli Kaja, Dannie Bulman, Ryan Sweeney, Lyle Taylor and Tom Elliot
Attendance: 341
Tonbridge 1-3 AFC Wimbledon
A much better performance from us in this game, as we seemed to be so much tighter in defence, and we weren't just letting the attackers get through our defence. we got very lucky towards the end of the game, as we scored two goals in injury time, to make it look like we won the game comfortably, we went 1-0 up due to an Adebayo Akinfenwa header in the 16th minute, and that's how the score stayed until the 79th minute, when Nathan Elder chipped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper, James Shea. Just as the game was looking to be closed out as a 1-1 draw, Adebayo Akinfenwa took the ball and went past two Tonbridge defenders, and finished at the near post, beating the goalkeeper Justin Wright, who unfortunately scored an own goal in the 92nd minute, after Adebayo Azeez's shot smashed against the bar, and rebounded in, off the heel of the Tonbridge keeper.
Attendance: 434
August:
FC United Of Manchester 0-0 AFC Wimbledon
The two clubs that rebelled against modern football, clashed together in the final friendly of the season, but the result ended in a bore draw, and the closest either side came, was when FCUM hit the post through Matty Wolfenden, but we dominated throughout the game, but we couldn't get the decisive goal at Broadhurst Park, as their goalkeeper played an absolute blinder to earn himself man of the match, and to keep himself a clean sheet.
Attendance: 766
