Kevin De Bruyne was vital in seeing Manchester City through to the Capital One Cup final

Manchester City 3 - 1 Derby County

After an impressive effort in the first leg, Derby County were unable to match it with Manchester City in the return leg with the favourites coming out victorious 3-1.
It was Kevin De Bruyne who opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he managed to get onto the end of a cross from Jesus Navas and give the lead to Manchester City. For the remainder of the half, Manchester City were in control but they were unable to extend their lead.

The start of the second half saw Manchester City awarded a penalty when Kevin De Bruyne was brought down just inside the box by Richard Keogh in the 47th minute. Fernandinho stepped up to take the penalty and blasted the ball past Lee Grant to increase the lead for Manchester City.

Derby County showed signs of life when Bradley Johnson scored after capitalising on an error from Bacary Sagna but only three minutes later Eliaquim Mangala scored from a Kevin De Bruyne corner to all but seal the match.

Manchester City will now go onto Wembley and face the winner of the other semi-final between Chelsea and Stoke who go into the second leg on equal terms after the first leg finished a scoreless draw.

Manchester City started the new year with a bang as they continued their terrific form this season throughout January. The month started off with a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion which saw Sergio Aguero score both goals.

After a draw in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final against Derby County, Paul Pogba made his debut with Manchester City coming away victorious over Crystal Palace 2-0 in the FA Cup 3rd Round, defeating them for the third time in four weeks.

A 60th minute goal from Theo Walcott gave Arsenal the three points against Manchester City 1-0, only their second defeat in the Premier League this season. After a 3-0 win over Liverpool, Manchester City progressed to the final of the Capital One Cup by winning the second leg against Derby County and then progressed further in the FA Cup with a 3-0 victory over West Ham.

Despite only playing in three games across the month due to the high number of cup fixtures, Sergio Aguero has won the player of the month award for January. If he is able to stay fit for the entire season, it is likely that he could beat the record of most goals in a Premier League season.

Real Madrid have shown great interest in Aguero but it will take a considerable bid for Manchester City to even consider selling the striker.

Manchester City hold a seven point lead over second placed Tottenham with the top half of the table beginning to separate itself from the pack. Surprise packets Norwich find themselves in sixth place with Nathan Redmond being a key figure in the recent success.

In the relegation battle, Sunderland and Bournemouth look the most likely candidates to go down but a few results going different ways could change everything.

After a perfect performance in the group stage, Manchester City are set to face Atletico Madrid in the first knockout round.

Manchester City will face either Watford or Nottingham Forest in the next round of the FA Cup. The fixture to watch in the round will be the match between Liverpool and Arsenal.

Manchester City will face Chelsea in the final of the Capital One Cup after Chelsea defeated Stoke 1-0 across two legs. The final will take place on the 28th of February.

Injury Report

Martin Demichelis

The Argentinian central defender suffered a calf strain during training but reports say that he will be fit within a week.

In February, Manchester City face some easier fixtures in the Premier League but will still need to maintain their current form in order to keep their lead at the top of the table. They face two big fixtures in the first leg of their Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid as well as the Capital One Cup final against Chelsea.
Nice win over Derby to get you in the Final.
And another grest month, staying well on top, doing brilliantly. ;)
Good luck for those hard fixtures next month, with Atlético and the final against Chelsea.

UEFA Champions League Round of 16 (First Leg)

http://s105.photobucket.com/user/chrisgriffin89/media/Manchester-City-v-West-Brom_zpsgxt2pifj.jpg.html
A goal from Wilfried Bony late in the second half was the difference in the first leg

Manchester City 1 - 0 Atletico Madrid

Manchester City faced Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League with the game considered the highest profile match up of the round.

Atletico Madrid came out aggressive in the first half with hard tackles and looking to take control early on but despite this the effective ball movement from Manchester City saw them create opportunities but they were unable to find the back of the net. Juanfran received a yellow card towards the end of the half after a poor challenge on Kevin De Bruyne.

The aggression continued in the second half with both Gabi and Nicolas Otamendi receiving yellow cards for poor tackles. It was Atletico who were in control in the second half, creating many opportunities but they were unable to hit the target.

Late in the second half, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini made a very risky decision in substituting star striker Sergio Aguero for Wilfried Bony which paid off almost immediately when Bony hit a spectacular volley from a Raheem Sterling cross to give City the victory.

The return leg between Manchester City and Atletico Madrid will take place next month at the City of Manchester Stadium. Manchester City will head into the game as favourites with a one goal lead and playing at home but the quality of the Atletico Madrid line up should ensure a quality contest.
Very important late goal, I wouldn't fancy having to go to Madrid without a lead, you're in for a scrappy and tough game

Capital One Cup Final

Sergio Aguero completed a hat trick in Manchester City’s Capital One Cup final victory

Manchester City 5 - 0 Chelsea

Manchester City have demolished Chelsea in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley in front of 90,000 fans. Heading into the match, many excepted a close contest but Manuel Pellegrini’s men put Chelsea to the sword to claim the Capital One Cup.

The scoring began in the 15th minute when Paul Pogba played a ball through to Sergio Aguero who calmly placed the ball past Thibaut Courtois. Chelsea players protested claiming that Aguero was offside but the referee did not tolerate it, with Cezar Azpilicueta given a yellow card.

Kevin De Bruyne scored next, getting on the end of a cross from Raheem Sterling and hitting the ball on the volley and into the back of the net. This was shortly followed by a third goal for Manchester City by Sergio Aguero who scored from a Raheem Sterling through ball to see Manchester City take a 3-0 lead into half time.

Straight after the break, Sergio Aguero capitalised on an error from Tibaut Courtois to complete his hat trick, running off and celebrating emphatically as the Chelsea fans began to leave the stadium. Aguero was then substituted for Wilfried Bony in the 73rd minute with the crowd giving him a rousing ovation. Only eight minutes later, Wilfried Bony then found himself on the scoresheet, blasting the ball into the back of the net to see Manchester City come away with an unbelievable 5-0 victory.

After Manchester City celebrated and received the cup, captain Vincent Kompany spoke. “This is a great achievement but this is only just the start, we have three other competitions we are still active in and we will do whatever we can to win as much as possible for the fans.” said Kompany. “The players, the staff and myself will not stop until we are the biggest and best football club in the world.” he added.

Manchester City put together an incredible month of results, with manager Manuel Pellegrini being awarded the Premier League Manager of the Month award for the third time this season. Putting together thirteen goals in three games, Manchester City managed to make short work of Sunderland, Stoke and Watford in their Premier League fixtures at the start of the month. Sergio Aguero reached a landmark this month when he scored his 100th league goal for Manchester City during the fixture against Stoke.

The only low point of the month was the draw against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup with a poor defensive performance, Manchester City will get a chance to square the ledger when they face off again in a replay next month.

City finished the month with two tremendous performances in their 1-0 victory in Spain against Atletico Madrid and their 5-0 demolition of Chelsea in the Capital One Cup final.

In his first full month as a Manchester City player, Paul Pogba has won the Player Of The Month award. Fans were concerned after Manchester City broke the record transfer fee to get Pogba to Manchester but if he is able to produce performances like this consistently it will be considered money well spent.

Across the month, Pogba managed to score two goals and provide four assists all while playing in a more defensive position than his usual role while playing alongside Yaya Toure.

Manchester City have managed to maintain their seven point lead on top of the Premier League table with the rest of the top of the table remaining similar. Leicester City have fell down the table after starting the season amongst the Champions League places, their loss of form has mainly been due to the loss of Jamie Vardy due to a broken ankle.

The relegation candidates have gotten closer to each other but those above them have managed to distance themselves.

Atletico Madrid will travel to Manchester in the return leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match. The biggest surprise of the round is Shakhtar Donetsk holding Barcelona to a draw in the first leg of their match up.

Manchester City will face Nottingham Forest in a replay of their FA Cup 5th Round fixture, they will head into the fixtures as heavy favourites still but there will be plenty of confidence amongst the Nottingham Forest squad. The winner of the match up will go on to face Leicester City in the next round.

Manchester City have now won the Capital One Cup four times with their previous victories occurring in 1969-70, 1975-76 and 2013-14.

Injury Report

Aleksandar Kolarov

Aleksander Kolarov suffered a calf injury during the fixture against Watford and is expected to miss two to three weeks. Gael Clichy will take his place in the line-up but will be covered by Bacary Sagna when required.

Manchester City face a much easier month of fixtures due to the international break, their month starts with a match against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. Next up, the Manchester derby will be held at the City of Manchester Stadium.

After a Premier League clash against Aston Villa, Manchester City face Atletico Madrid in the return leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 fixture, taking a one goal lead into the fixture. Finishing off the month for Manchester City, they will face Tottenham in the Premier League.
