The wait is almost over
After 33 years, the Hessenderby is finally back tomorrow.
With just 27 km between Darmstadt and Frankfurt there isn't a long way to travel for both, the away fans and the team they follow. The sensational run from Darmstadt - from the relegation zone of division 3 to Bundesliga football in just three years - has ended the 33 year long wait for the Derby between Eintracht Fankfurt and Darmstadt.
The last time the two sides met was back in 1983 when Frankfurt beat Darmstadt 2-1.
And the Eagles are the favourites for the clash on Friday again. The club of the bank metropole will certainly look to show Darmstadt their place in the shadow of Frankfurt only a few kilometers in the south of the town.
Darmstadt captain Aytac Sulu said that he thinks that the games against Frankfurt will be the highlights of the season for the fans and for the players of the Liliens as well.
While Darmstadt has nothing to lose, Eintracht coach Armin Veh already feels the pressure: "We know how much the game means to the fans and we want to give them something to celebrate. It's only normal to feel pressure in this situations."
More than one thousand Frankfurt fans visited todays training to show the team their support ahead of their home game against the Lilys. "It's a massive boost"', claims Frankfurt vice-captain Marco Russ who will lead the team as a captain against Darmstadt again as Meier will still be out due to the follow-up of his knee surgery.
