Diminishing returns in a more powerful laptop?

Does upgrading your laptop allow better FM performance?

Hi everyone - I hate to add another "which laptop" thread, but would appreciate the chance to get the opinion from some of the more tech savvy of us.

I will soon be purchasing a laptop! Besides the usual Microsoft Office/internet use, I'll be playing probably more than my fair share of football manager on it. Would love to get a machine that allows me to max out the game as much as possible - load it up with leagues, tons of players, and have very quick load times/progression time.

I read in some threads that there are diminishing returns to how well FM will play as you move up the chain of better laptops. I.e., once you get an i5 processor with 8GB of ram, anything above that won't really help you out.

Is that the case? I'm willing to spend more, but only if it gets me better performance. Will a $1200 gaming laptop perform better than a $600 gaming laptop? Are there any key specs to look out for that would allow blazingly fast FM playing?

Thank you for any help!
