Villarreal sack Marcelino after 'disappointing season'

Villarreal have decided to sack their manager Marcelino after his two and half year tenure with the Yellow Submarine came to an end.

Having failed to meet objectives in the eyes of the board, Marcelino was relieved of his duties.

Finishing seventeen points behind 4th placed Valencia, the board at 'Yellow Sub' decided that it was time to part company with the man that won them promotion in 2013. And despite Europa League qualification for the second season in a row, owner and president Fernando Roig decided that a change was needed in order for Villarreal to progress.

Having named former B team coach Omar Jones in temporary charge Villarreal are reportedly looking toward former Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti (7/2), Manchester City boss and former Villarreal manager of five years, Manuel Pellegrini (8/1), and current Sevilla boss Unai Emery (12/1).

I accidentally made this an FM15 story so this is the actual version I'll be posting on from now on.
Good luck mate! Villareal are an interesting team, and they've definitely got the players to compete with the big guns in the Spanish league, I'll definitely be following this story.

Gaspar forces move following Marcelino sacking

Mario Gaspar has completed a £13,750,000 to Manchester United having handed in a transfer request after former manager Marcelino was sacked by the club.

It was revealed by Gaspar that he was deeply disappointed in the board's decision of a change of management and thought the club had made a poor decision in the change of manager.

''I was surprised the club decided to get rid of Marcelino, I feel the decision was poor and that Villarreal have gambled their future in sacking him.

I believe the team could, and should, have stuck with him and may well regret the decision. But I would like to thank those at Villarreal for all they have done for me and for allowing the opportunity to play in the Premier League.''

The £13,750,000 fee received from the transfer is sure to be reinvested in the Yellow Submarine's squad, with Boca Juniors full back Gino Peruzzi (pictured below) heavily linked to El Madrigal.

Experience replaced by Villarreal youth as three full backs exit El Madrigal

There seems to be a mass exodus of full backs at Villarreal with another three being sold on as Omar Jones looks to promote the rich array of youth talent at his disposal.

Daniele Bonera (pictured) was the first to exit, having only joined in the summer on a free transfer from AC Milan, the 34 year old has been almost immediately loaned out to FC Basel in Switzerland.

This opened the door for Jose Luis Trapaga to be promoted to the first team squad, at just seventeen years of age has impressed in pre season games against Penafiel and Bursaspor. And is expected to be part of the first team set up for years to come.

Next Serbian right back Antonio Rukavina (pictured) was sold to Middlesbrough for £220,000 to make way for the aforementioned Trapaga. Having been deemed to not be needed by Jones, who is looking to utilise the academy.

''There are some brilliant prospects here and I want to use their potential to its fullest extent. And develop players as well as buying some quality.

We have (Jose) Trapaga, (Adrian) Marin, (Nahuel) Leiva, Rodri. There's a great crop right now.''

~Omar Jones on bringing through youngsters

Bojan Jokic was the final and most recent player to leave, in a £1,200,000 move to Crystal Palace, after Adrian Marin was another young player who showed his quality in Villarreal's pre season and looks set to challenge Jaume Costa for the first choice left back spot.

The pre season results have yielded much optimism for the Yellow Submarine supporters, with players like Samuel, Denis Suarez (pictured) and Cedric Bakambu all showing plenty of promise.

Great start to this story mate, really liking it so far!

Cheers Griffo, yeah I still don't get why we let him go. But at least he's been doing well in La Liga!

August 2015

La Liga

Bruno 3, 10

Bakambu 55

Suarez 79

Review

My introduction into La Liga was a rather comfortable one, as we ran out 4-1 victors over a poor Real Betis. Fittingly captain Bruno was the man to score first after three minutes, before doubling the advantage after ten minutes. Congolese forward Cedric Bakambu then made it 3-0 after Antonio Adan dropped Jaume Costa's cross. Petros instantly pulled a goal back for the hosts, but Denis Suarez completed the rout with a hooked volley in the 79th minute.

La Liga

Samuel 3, 10

Ruiz 55

Review

Another fairly comfortable game as we brushed aside Catalonia's 2nd team in a 2-0 win, Samuel gave us the lead just before half time after volleying home from a deep Denis Suarez. Victor Ruiz then made it 2-0 with a back post header (no pun intended) over Pau Lopez who had jumped too far to reach the ball.

The inaugural player of the month of the award for this story goes to none other than Manu Trigueros. The 24 year old has been excellent in midfield running the show alongside Bruno and Denis Suarez, and picked up the assist for Victor Ruiz' header against Espanyol.

The table in August shouldn't be read into too much, but if the first month of the season is anything to go by then Champions League football is a very realistic aim. September will see us take on some tough opponents, as we travel to Malaga who received an 8-0 beating from Barcelona, as well as play host to the Basque club, Athletic Bilbao and Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid.
Really nice looking update man and a fantastic start to the season!
