So, I just wanted to start this thread off by admitting that my recent experience with
FM is mostly related to the 2016 version of the game. There was about a 10-week period
where I experimented with the '15 instalment just to see what had changed before the
current version was released.
One thing I have noticed, is that FM isn't a fun game to play any more. Before, I used
to love wasting hours playing the game, messing around with tactics and being more of-
ten than not successful. The most recent game however, is the most infuriating, nonsens-
ical piece of garbage that I've ever had the misfortune of playing.
I started my save originally at PSG, not exactly the most challenging option I know, but
I thought it made sense in that I could use my time there to create and develop a tactic
that I could take with me after I felt I couldn't take PSG any further to other teams.
However, what I have found is that a tactic that won me 5 consecutive Ligue 1 titles, 5
French Cups, 3 League Cups, a Europa League crown and the Champions League just doesn't
work. It just doesn't win me games any more. I've tried it at Real Madrid, I've tried it
at Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan and I'm currently trying it at a very good Valencia
side and it's just blunt and ineffective.
The tactic is this: Higher tempo, fairly wide width, normal defensive line, tighter
marking, get stuck in, exploit the middle, play out of defence, mixed passing, retain
possession, disciplined creative freedom, working ball into box and run at defence.
I'm currently playing a 4-2-3-1 formation with my full-backs set to automatic, central
defenders set to defend, one CM set as a deep-lying playmaker on support and the other
set as a box-to-box midfielder also on support. Both wide-men are playing as wingers with
the left sided player on attack and the right sided player on support. The CAM is set as
a trequartista and the sole striker is a poacher.
Can somebody please find a hole in my tactic or the way I have my player roles set-up because I just can't and it's driving me absolutely mental.
