Dembélé Delight For Mainz

Jürgen Klopp has made his first signing on his return to Mainz 05, one which has come as quite a surprise. With Real Madrid, Arsenal and Bayern Munich all scouting and keen on landing this "wonderkids" signature, Strutz, the Club President, was eager to get a deal pushed through for Rennes attacker Ousmane Dembélé to join on loan with the option to buy after his twelve month spell.

As a youngster Dembélé left his hometown Club Évreux aged just thirteen for the Rennes Youth Academy. He represented France at various ages and signed his first professional contract, a three-year deal in October 2014 after tough negotiations which at one point saw him refusing to train with the first team. That had all been forgotten and on the evidence of the forward's nine goals in seventeen Ligue 1 appearances he had become one of the French Club's prized possesions.

The youngster's small physique is offset by his speed, invention and technique. He's a proper forward and thanks to his changes of direction he can easily wrongfoot opponents. The 18-year old is very technical with both feet and has a knack of scoring brilliant goals. And his side never lost a game when he has registered on the scoresheet in Ligue 1.

"This is a show of intent by the Club, we are looking at bringing in the best young talent around Europe. There is a massive challenge for anyone coming to Mainz 05 and the Bundesliga. We are beginning a new journey and we are delighted Ousmane is going to be a part of that. The loan deal is ideal for Mainz, the player has the chance to come here and prove he is worthy of a permanent contract and if things don't work out he can return to France with some valuable experience."

Elkin Soto is one of many to depart

When players come into a Club it's a sure thing players will depart and Mainz have shown the exit to no fewer than ten senior squad players, freeing up transfer funds and wages for any other proposed moves.

One player to move on is popular Columbian midfielder Elkin Soto. The 34-year old has been with 'Der Karnevalsverein' since 2006. However he had only managed sixteen games last season before breaking down with a cruciate injury. His estimated return isn't until April next year and Klopp has decided to let the player go. FSV Mainz 05 however, will continue to provide treatment and rehabilitation for the long serving Soto until he is fit enough to find a new Club.

Gonzalo Jaro has joined Bundesliga opposition Bremen in a deal worth £500K. The Chilean centre-half signed from English Championship side Nottingham Forest but there is no plans to use him this year under the new management team. The ever ageing Niki Zimling left for pastures new and now links up with Brøndby where he started his senior career some fifteen years ago. Gaëtan Bussman was released soon after Klopp's appointment whilst Todor Nedelev left for Turkish outfit Basaksehir in a cut price deal worth £250K.

Another first team player to move on is Christoph Moritz, the holding midfielder played a key role in the Mainz side under Martin Schmidt but Klopp has decided to let the 25-year old join Hoffenheim in a £4M deal. Christian Clemens has returned to Schalke, his Parent Club, and experienced goalkeeper Gianluca Curci has been released due to being surplus to requirements.

"I would like to wish all the players who have left the Club the very best of luck. It was nothing personal with any of them. Like I said in my interview last week, for us to succeed and hit our targets, we need the correct calibre of player here and that is what we are hoping to do in the next few weeks before the window shuts."
Dembele is a potential superstar for you, hopefully he turns out like that or you develop him into a world beater and make huge profit on him!
Dembélé is certainly an exciting talent, hopefully he can prove to have the goods for Mainz!

Wittek Makes Wise Move

In desperate need of a left sided defender, Mainz Manager Jürgen Klopp certainly didn't hit the panic button but instead pulled out all the stops and signed a real gem from the German second tier. Maximilian Wittek joined the Club on a four-year contract from 1860 Munich. The fee is believed to be in the region of £750K, which could rise depending on first-team appearances.

Wittek is a youth exponent from the ever growing München Lions Academy. He made his 2.Bundesliga debut on the 10th of August 2014 at home to Red Bull Leipzig. Munich lost 3-0 and Wittek was hooked at half-time after a disasterous first forty-five. More experienced players would have crumbled but the youngster was determined to prove his worth. He went on to feature regularly and nailed down the left back spot as his own.

On October the 9th, Wittek made his debut for Germany U-20's in a 1-0 loss to rivals England. Now with a chance to play in the Bundesliga with Mainz under the experienced guidance of Klopp, surely he will improve his game and feature again at first team level and possibly at senior International level.

Möhlmann rates new Mainz star highly

1860 Munich Head Coach Benno Möhlmann thinks Klopp has signed a future German internationalist in Maximilian Wittek and is delighted to see one of his youngsters move onto a Club with a bright future.

"Maxi has a very bright future and I am glad he will be spending atleast the next four seasons with Mainz 05. The Club are getting a commited athlete, he has bags of energy and his workrate is second to none. Under the right guidance I have no doubt he will be capped at senior level."

"If there is one thing he needs to work on that would be his end product. He has the pace ti beat his opponent but needs to improve his crossing and passing. However his knowledge and understanding of the game prove Max is a wise and trustworthy defender to have in your backline."

"To be honest, as a Club, we were quite surprised that Mainz 05 were the only team to show a real interest in his services. He was tremendous last season for 1860 in the few games he played and thoroughly deserves this opportunity. We would all like to wish him the very best of luck in the Bundesliga this season."
Good signing mate, had a really long career on fifa with 1860 and he turned into a superstar so hopefully the same happens here!
I don't know much about this guy, so it will be interesting to see how he does.

Pre-Season Spanish Tour

FSV Mainz 05 travelled to the warmer climates of mainland Spain for a pre-season trip that consisted of four games. Klopp's 24-man squad arrived in Murcia six days before their first run out against minnows Tesorillo and enjoyed training, team bonding and relaxing in their deluxe Spa in the La Manga resort.

Tesorillo 0-8 Mainz
The Germans began their tour of Spain against minnows Tesorillo on Thursday evening and secured a comprehensive victory by eight goals to nil in sweltering conditions.

It took Klopp's side just two minutes to break the deadlock at Municipal de la Era infront of the 170 enthusiastic locals. A corner from the left, swung in by Leon Balogun resulted in a scramble in the six-yard box. Danny Latza rattled the woodwork and the ball fell to on-loan striker Jhon Cordoba, who blasted home the follow up for Mainz.

Fabien Frei was on hand to get the second, clever wing play by Brosinski, who for the day was playing in a more advanced role than usual, broke the defence and he threaded a neat ball into the path of the Swiss midfielder Frei who cooly placed his shot around the keeper. On the half hour mark it was three. Brosinski continued to cause problems for the Tesorillo defence and his low, fizzing strike from the edge of the area was diverted in by Juan Miguel Acha past the helpless youngster between the sticks.

Debuts for Dembélé and Devante Parker lit up the second half, the youngsters both grabbed a goal and created one each for Cordoba, causing real problems with their direct approach at such high pace. The final goal belonged to centre back Stefan Bell. Max Wittek swooped in a terrific corner which was helped on its way by a defender, only for Bell to knock the ball in from close range with his knee.

Mainz now travel to Puerto Real on Saturday to continue their work towards the new season and build on tonights performance as the Bundesliga draws closer.

4-2-3-1: Karius, Balogun, Häusl, Bell, Wittek, Latza, Frei, Brosinski (Dembélé), Malli, Mutô (Parker), Cordoba (Niederlechner).

Puerto Real 0-8 Mainz
Florian Niederlechner grabbed four of the eight goals in this simple friendly win for Mainz. The youngster had completed his hat-trick after a red hot opening fourteen minutes. All three strikes came from close range but Niederlechner showed terrific timing and composure to score them.

Midfield duo Frei and Latza each grabbed a goal apiece before the break. Daniel Brosinski delivered two pin point crosses as the afore mentioned pair lost their markers and tapped home at the back post.

Niederlechner left the best of his four goals for last. Right on the stroke of half-time Fabien Frei surged down the right flank and picked out the youngster who took one touch with his back to goal, turned and blasted a volley into the upper echelons of the goal.

Klopp gave Devante Parker another chance to shine in the second half. Frei had made it seven before, the highly rated youngster, Patrick Pflücke switched a ball onto the left flank where the on rushing Wittek took on two defenders before launching a cross into the danger zone. From here Parker needed no second invite, meeting the ball flush as it smashed the back of the net and ended Puerto Real's misery for the evening.

4-2-3-1: Karius, Brosinski, Bungert (Bell), Hack, Wittek, Latza (Baumgartlinger), Frei, Malli (Parker), Pflücke, Mutô (Dembélé), Niederlechner.

Xerez 0-5 Mainz
Xerez, in the heart of Andalucia, were next up to face the Germans. The 2009/10 season saw Xerez competing in La Liga albeit only collecting seven points. But nowadays they play in the Primera Adaluza after years of financial fight and difficulty.

Mainz were too strong on this occasion and started brightly, like the weather, wrapping the game up with all five goals in the first period. Japanese winger Yoshi Mutô picked up the ball from kick-off and ran at the Spanish defence. It parted like the Red Sea and Mutô coasted through and rounded the goalie. Danny Latza was on hand to nod in the second as Balogun crossed in from the right. Swede Pierre Bengtsson, playing the first forty-five on his return from injury grabbed Mainz' third.

The fourth goal would have impressed Klopp. Neat work out of defence from Bell and Baumgartlinger led to a swift attack down the right flank. Devante Parker had earned himself a start and he grabbed it with both hands. Taking on the Xerez defence with pace and skill, he stepped over one tackle and surged into the box. A quick return pass from Niederlechner left the young American-born Parker with only the keeper to beat, which he did, with relative ease.

The fifth and final goal came just before the break, Danny Latza crept into the oppositions box and was tripped as he set himself to shoot. The referee didn't hesitate and awarded the foul. Jumping up with the ball, Latza cooly rolled his penalty past the frustrated Xerez goalie.

4-2-3-1: Huth, Balogun, Haüsl (Hack), Bell, Wittek (Bengtsson), Baumgartlinger, Latza, Parker (Dembélé), Malli (Pflücke), Mutô, Niederlechner.

Castilla 0-3 Mainz
Mainz' final game of their Spanish Tour was against Real Madrid's second side, Castilla. The match was held at the Alfredo di Stéfano Stadium and the home side played a strong starting eleven. With the likes of wonderkid Martin Odegaard and Enzo Zidane, the eldest son of the footballing genius Zinedine, out on show.

That didn't faze Klopp's side and they began strong with Florian Niederlechner leading the attack, moving into channels and causing the home side defence problems. It wasn't until twenty minutes in when Yoshi Mutô found the net. Bengtsson broke from left back and slipped in the Japanese attacker who beat Rubén Yáñez at his near post.

It wasn't until after the break when young attacking midfielder Patrick Pflücke made it two. Fellow youth player Devante Parker swung a cross in for Niederlechner who hammered it against the bar from close range but the onrushing German struck it past two defenders. Mutô finished the game off with a back post header, small in height, he managed to out jump Álvaro Tejero and wheeled away in jubilant fashion.

Another important performance from Klopp's Mainz. Four pre-season friendlies with twenty four goals and not a single one conceded, the big German must be delighted to see his side in such great shape.

4-2-3-1: Karius, Brosinski (Balogun), Bell, Bungert, Bengtsson, Baumgartlinger, Frei, Parker, Malli (Pflücke), Mutô, Niederlechner.

Pablo de Blasis is back after injury

There was more good news for Mainz as Argentine left midfielder Pablo de Blasis trained with the senior squad for the first time since his horrific knee injury at the beginning of the year. The midfielder is still some time away from being match fit but it's sure to be a promising sign for Klopp.

Dennis Franzin is the only long-term injury worry and but the youngster took part in light raining as he looks to sharpen up for the forthcoming season. Pablo de Blasis took time out from his recovery to speak with Mainz TV,

"It's been a long recovery but Mainz have been tremendous with the support they've given me. My knee is much better and I am hoping to play a big part in this Club's season. With the new Manager onboard it gives everyone a lift and a chance to prove their worth. For me it is no different. When Jürgen arrived he came and spoke to me, he said I was part of his first team plans and that has really gave me a boost with my recovery."

"There is a real buzz in camp just now and we have enjoyed a tough but successful pre-season. We now need to take that form into the Bundesliga and do what we do best. Julian (Baumgartlinger) spoke to the squad this morning and gave us that belief and lift that we need and told us we can achieve great things this season."
Some very good results in there mate, hopefully it bodes well for the Bundesliga!
Apologies about the delay in updates, however, new update to follow soon...

The Coface Arena

The Coface Arena is one of the newest stadiums in the Bundesliga having officially opened on the 3rd of July 2011 with a pre-season tournament occurring a few weeks later between Borussia Dortmund, Hamburg, Bayern Munich and the home side Mainz.

Construction took place over a 22-month period with the ground being broke on May 2009, but the seeds were sown way back in 2007 when the Club’s management identified a new stadium was imperative to remaining economically competitive in the Bundesliga.

The Club scrutinised the placement of the new stadium with the three most feasible options as follows: building on the site of the former Bruchwegstadion within the Hartberg-Munchfeld, expansion of the current system and relocation 2km west in the Gonsenheim district. The third option was of course deemed the most feasible.

In total the stadium budget was €55million plus a further €15million used for the purchase of nearby land, unforeseen costs and the club held a “competitive dialogue” with all the company’s who tendered simultaneously in order to ensure the most suitable bidder won. The actual cost came in at around €60million which is something the English FA could learn from.

The site of the Coface Arena has been labelled as the 'Gateway to the City' due to its accessibility, and this was one of the factors which helped the Club make their final decision on the location. The 34,034 capacity was nominated in 2012 for “The Stadium Business Award” which is testament to the quality of the finished article.

Mainz supporters in full voice pre-match

With Club favourite Jürgen Klopp returning home, President Strutz has went all out and has set a date to unveil the West Stand, commonly known as 'Lotto Tribune' as the 'Klopp End'. The 'Red Wall' as it's also called, can muster together 12,500 home supporters and is the biggest single tier terrace in Europe.

Already known for singing Liverpool's anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone', Mainz fans intend to show their new Manager he won't be missing anything by turning down the English Premier League side in the summer. Klopp's first home game in charge will come against Darmstadt on the 15th of August and 'Der Karnevalsverein' aim to make it a day the German won't forget.
