Anfield, Liverpool

"Well, its been an eventful day here in Liverpool, as Brendan Rodgers steps down as Liverpool boss. We'll have more news as we get it, but it is understood at this time that the club's poor finish in the league has been the catalyst for the Northern Irishman.

Graeme Souness, reporting for Sky Sports on this day, turned away from his cameraman to look at the stadium behind him. It hurt, knowing that his former club had been so close to a Premier League title this time last year, and had then failed to capitalise on that momentum. Now, as Brendan Rodgers walked out of Anfield for the last time, the Scotsman felt only the smallest pang of sympathy for him.

In his pocket, he felt his phone ring, and pulling it out, he could see that a familiar name was calling him - Jamie Carragher

"Jamie! Are you calling as a pundit, or as a mate?" Souness' greeting was met by a laugh on the other end of the line

"Actually Graeme, i'm calling for some advice"

"Oh, okay, go ahead then"

"Well..." Something in Carragher's voice was shaking "Well, I just got off the phone with the board...they're wanting a fan favourite to take over"

"Right, and they want you"

"Well, they originally wanted Steven, but he won't change his mind on going to Galaxy - he's not finished playing yet"

"Ok, so have they offered you the job?"

"Yeah...thats what I wanted to talk to you about...You've got some management experience behind you, don't you?" Carragher knew the answer just fine - Souness had already managed Liverpool from 1991 to 1994, lifting the FA Cup in his first season. He had also won the League cup with Blackburn rovers, and a couple of trophies in Turkey

"Well, yeah, I guess you could say that... The Scotsman was unsure where this was going, but he had an inkling

"Graeme, I want you to come and be my assistant manager"
Great start! Let's see if this can challenge the Everton Story!
JAMIE CARRAGHER! <3

New Face: Kop legend Jamie Carragher is set to take over from Brendan Rodgers at Anfield

He may be an Everton fan at heart, but Jamie Carragher has given blood, sweat and tears for our club, endearing himself to Liverpool fans all over the world in the course of a 23-year career at Anfield. Today, he was unveiled as the new manager of Liverpool FC, taking over from Brendan Rodgers, who left by 'mutual agreement' almost a week ago.

Carragher arrives at Anfield to take up his first post in management, having only recently started on his top-level coaching courses. However, he seems set to fill his backroom with management expertise, having appointed fellow Kop legend Graeme Souness as his Assistant Manager. Kenny Dalgliesh, of course, is a prominent member of the Anfield board, and there are rumours that Steven Gerrard could be convinced to make a return to Anfield in a coaching capacity in the future.

However, the new manager is taking no heed of the rumours, nor of the fans who are disappointed that Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is not making his way to Anfield, as had been predicted in the previous months. Speaking today, Carragher stated "I know there will be fans who are gutted Jurgen [Klopp] isn't sitting here just now, in front of you, but I also know that there are fans who are willing to get behind any manager, and give them a chance. Those fans, I thank you - i'm not going to let you down."

The new boss was also questioned on potential new signings, and tactics, but he was not forthcoming with answers to those questions, preferring to keep those details to himself. It will be interesting to see who he targets, and the style of play he is going to implement, but Liverpool fans are surely in for one hell of a ride
Hopefully it doesn't go the same way as his pal Gary Neville at Valencia :))
CARRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Glad you took my advice on the story choice, you will kill this!
Good luck mate! Please do what so many have tried (and failed) to bring home title 19!
"We all dream of a team of Carraghers"!!! Good luck!

Carragher: I Want to Focus on Youth

Talent: Jordan Rossiter is one of a raft of young talents that new boss Carragher is set to develop

Liverpool are a club with a reputation when it comes to young talent - Steven Gerrard and new boss Jamie Carragher may stand out in recent memory, but Liverpool have also developed greats such as Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Ian Callaghan, Phil Thomson and Tommy Lawrence. It is a tradition which Jamie Carragher is determined to continue, as he discussed his club's youth prospects this morning, ahead of a closed-doors friendly against the Under 21s.

"I think, when you look through our Academy sides, and our Under-21s, theres a lot of players who stand out as being players we should be looking at for the future. There's some boys who are ready to take a place in the first team - or at least compete for one. I'm talking about guys like Jordon Ibe, maybe Jerome Sinclair. Guys who have been here for a long time now, and know how Liverpool sides like to play.

"Obviously we've got some new, slightly older faces - Joe Gomez and Danny Ings have really impressed me so far, and guys like Emre Can have the ability to go all the way to the top. I'll be looking at loaning a few of the younger boys out. I know Liverpool fans have tagged Jordan [Rossiter] as the new Steven Gerrard, but for me, he needs one more season of solid first-team football on loan before we look at integrating him into the first team.

"I think, for some fans, a couple of the promotions this season might seem crazy, but i've been watching the guys for a while now, and there's some standout performers, and a couple of guys in particular who have really, really impressed in training."

Following his interview, Carragher headed to Anfield where his Liverpool side took on the Under-21s in a closed-doors friendly. Goals from Divock Origi (2) and Emre Can gave the senior side a 3-0 lead, before Jerome Sinclair found the net - albeit the wrong net - to seal a 4-0 win for the senior side.

In the wake of that game, rumour is that there has been a flurry of activity, with several of the Under 21 squad heading out on loan to a variety of clubs. Confirmation on this when we have it.
Well....Poch done it first ;) But looking forward to it, Try to sign Recee Oxford, Marcus Edwards, Callum Gribbin, Kyle Walker Peters if you can or at least keep an eye out for them. Looking good though :)
Looking forward to this as a Liverpool fan, make me proud.
Turning the friendly between your sides into an update, good form!
Jurgen Klopp's exploits with young Liverpool teams this season irl will certainly be of some inspiration, hopefully you have similar success!
