I've finally decided to go along with my name and do what I do best, and that is build a team out of a club who have nothing and turn that club into a force to be reckoned with in world football. But I will be adding a little twist on that, as this save will be done entirely outside of Europe.

The Rio clubs in Brazil have been struggling a lot recently and as a result are not that financially stable. With this struggling it has also caused players to move to new clubs, leaving the city of Rio with not much hope in footballing terms.

However the good thing about being a Rio based team, is that football is the one way out of the favelas for a lot of people there, meaning a lot of fantastic youth comes through Brazil's academies. I will use this to my advantage and hopefully just rely on my own academy, but will also be throwing in a couple of signings should I need it.

Why Fluminense?

Well they are possibly the most affected team in the city of Rio, after winning the Serie A in 2012, they have fallen away and are a struggling mid table team at best nowadays, but they still possess their fantastic youth academy, which brought through the likes of Rafael and Fabio in recent years and being in a city that lives for football, it won't take long for more talent to come through. Finances at the club aren't great as well, meaning signings in the first season will not be happening and I will simply be working with what I have. The main reason for picking Fluminense they is that currently they have no real quality first team players with the exception of Fred. That is perfect because it gives me a chance to completely build a new team from scratch.

Goals for this save:

  • Reach Worldwide Reputation
  • Be one of the best clubs in the world
  • Have at least 7 players in the Brazil team at any given point
  • Be in a good financial position and look to buy the Maracana
  • Have a team that's entirely from the Fluminense Academy
  • Win their first Copa Libertadores
  • Become the first Rio based team to win the Serie A since 2012
  • Dominate the Rio State Championship
  • Win the Club World Cup

I'm going to try and make this an incredibly in depth story, as I want to create the kind of story that keeps everyone interested and helps me stay interested with the save also.

So why Fluminense?

Well after going to Rio for the World Cup, I realized how much this fantastic city loves football. Everywhere you go in Rio, you can escape their love of football. But nowadays the clubs based in Rio are not the best in Brazil, especially with the likes of Botafogo being relegated to the Serie B. The city needs something to rekindle their love for football.

The reason I have chose Fluminense is because, they are one of the best supported teams in Rio, but have never gone on to win a continental competition, something a club of their statue should have achieved.

However in recent years they have been in some financial difficulty forcing them to sell some of their best players to come through the ranks in recent years including the likes of Kenedy and Gerson.

Nowadays, the squad is absolute rubbish, with the only valuable member of the squad being Fred. This is a massive rebuilding job to get a squad capable of fighting for Brazil's top division again. Also with the club not owning a stadium, this really is a club who have nothing left, except an academy. This is a chance to build a club from scratch.

So who am I?

Well I'm Alex Silva, a 20 year old Brazilian with a love of the club Fluminense, who has been studying for his management qualifications for the last 4 years with the hopes of being able to take over his boyhood club. However that dream is about to become a reality as Fluminense offer me an interview to become their new manager.

Over the course of my life, all I have lived for is Fluminense, I know everything about the club and I want to make it my club, I want to go down in the history books for them. I want to make this the most successful team in Brazil since Santos in the 60's. I believe in youth, hopefully I can make the city of Rio buzz about football again and we can get unbelievable talents through. I believe I am a tactician, I believe I can bring a new style to Brazilian football and change the way the game is played here forever, but I still want to use that Brazilian flair that made this nation famous.

With Alex Silva taking charge, is Fluminense about to change forever? Is Alex Silva the man they need to get this club out of the decline they are currently in? We will find out in the Rio Redemption!

Fluminense officially hire Alex Silva as manager

Fluminense have made world news today, as they have hired the youngest manager in world football, hiring 20 year old Alex Silva as manager in what looks to a complete revamp of the club.
Within the next 10 years, we want to be the most successful club in World Football. We want to be on par with clubs like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona. This is just the start of our plan, we want to transform the city of Rio, we want the city of Rio to live for Fluminense. We believe hiring a young manager we will a massive boost to our club, as he will see things in different ways compared to older managers and will be able to bring a new type of modern football to this once great club. Us as owners will be investing heavily in the clubs facilities, but first we need to make this club successful again and I know Alex is the right man to achieve that.

Alex lives for this club, he's been to every game of Fluminense since he was 4 years old, he knows everything about this club. That was a major factor in our decision to hire him, he knows how the players play and how they like to play, something other managers may not have picked up on.

Alex Silva delighted to be appointed

Of course I'm delighted to become manager of Fluminense, it's a club I've loved since I was 4 years old, I'd consider myself one of their biggest fans. I know the club has been in some tough times in the past few years, but I think I can help them, I look at football in different ways to other managers. I know what this team is missing, I know how to make Rio Brazil's football hotspot again. We need the passion back in the city... ever since the World Cup in 2014, Brazil has lost it's footballing passion due to Brazil being outclassed. We need to give them a reason to love football again, I believe I am that reason. I'm not just going to make this a great club, I'm going to make this the greatest club to have ever existed.
The problem with football nowadays in Brazil is that managers are trying to imitate European tactics, that's not in the Brazilian blood, we aren't wired to play like that. We are meant to play the Brazilian way, something that has been lost in recent years in Brazilian football. I want to bring that style back, a style that made great players like Ronaldinho and Ronaldo legends of the Brazilian game. The Brazilian god that is Pele has already contacted me saying he's excited about my ideas for Brazilian football and can't wait to see how I bring it back, for me that is a real honor, the greatest player ever to grace the game saying he's excited about me is a dream come true.

I want to bring back what made Brazilian Football so good back in the 60's and 70's, a style of football that not even the European teams could even compete with. A style that was used by the 1970 Brazil World Cup team, arguably the best team ever to play football. I know the players want to play that way as well, it's the way they have been taught football, it's the way they're meant to play football.

As for transfers, I'm going to stick to the old school Brazilian way. I have no interest in paying millions for a player who has no passion for this club or city. No, I want players who are Fluminense through and through, who would die for this club and be willing to give their all for this club just like me. Many managers around the world are labeling me as an Old School manager and that I will never succeed in the modern game, but I'm here to prove them wrong. I'm going to show them the right way to play football, and that is the Brazilian way.

My tactical approach

As I said in an earlier press conference, I want to bring back the entertaining style of football that used to be played in Brazil, often considered some of the greatest football ever played. Named the Brazilian Samba style of football, made famous by the likes of Pele, it is often considered some of the best football ever played, and was one of the reason Brazil were so dominant in the World Cup in 1970 in Mexico, because they were used to the hot climate, no European teams could compete with their style of play.
I'm looking to bring back this style of play with some slight twists to make it my own style, a style people will call the 'Silva Style' in years to come. of course I'm sticking to the roots of Brazilian Flair but have edited it around the typical Brazilian 4-2-2-2 that is used nowadays, although it may not look it.

Here it is:

You may never have seen a tactic like this before, that is because people tend to stick to normal formations, not me, I like to be creative and play an unorthodox style. This is the new style of Brazil and just the foundations of how I'm going to change Brazilian football forever.

Silva on Squad

I admit, our current squad is not as good as it can be, but after watching this team all of my life I know the players I want to keep here at this club. Marlon is a player I want to keep around, he is a player with World Class potential and I hope he feels he can achieve it at this club and I think I am the man who can help him to get him to the standard he wants to be at. We will also be looking at the experience of Fred, the man is a goal-scoring machine for Fluminense scoring 91 goals in 163 appearances during his time here, but his age worries me, I don't know how long he can keep that kind of goal-scoring record up but I have full faith in the ability of this squad
For the Rio State Championship, this is a time where the youth will really get a chance to show that they deserve a place in the team over the coming season, we will be playing against weaker opposition so I think it will be a good time to give some young talented a players a run out, who knows, the next Pele could already be at our club just waiting to be discovered. But when it comes to the Serie A, players will have to play well if they want to remain in the squad, I have no time for any player who gives less than 100% every match, I will be strict but fair with my squad. I've already changed their diets to the way I think footballers should eat, I think this will give us an edge over other Brazilian teams. I'm lucky to have a board that let me make all the decisions because they trust that I will do what's right for this club.

But overall, I think we have a strong enough squad for at least a mid table finish for this year, it will be tough but I know we can do it. I know the fans will be wanting us to win the league, but I don't think that will be possible, I mean you cannot rebuild a club overnight, this will be a slow process to take us back to the top, I just hope they all stick by me while I do it.
A really interesting tactic mate, hopefully you can return this club to the top and go and win that Libertadores title!
