
Marco Branca; Mainz' New Head Coach

The former sporting director of Inter has no experience as a head coach
Mainz have hired the 50-years-old Italian, Marco Branca, as their new head coach. Branca signed his one-year contract after two months of negotiations with the legendary sporting director of Mainz, Christian Heidel. Branca will earn €1.9M per season.
“Today I’ve started a new journey in my football career and became a head coach”, Marco Branca told the official website of Mainz, “It’s a real pleasure to join Mainz family and I would like to thank Christian [Heidel] who gave me the chance to become a head coach. I never coached but I know the job and I hope I can bring success to Mainz.” he added.
“We’re very happy that Marco joined our club today. Marco is a football genius who brought success to Inter and worked with world-class players,” said sporting director Christian Heidel, “Together with Marco, I believe we can bring Mainz to the top of the German football and we has high expectations this season.” he added.
Branca, who born in Grosseto in 1965, is a former striker who played for Udinese, Sampdoria, Fiorentina, Roma, Inter and Middlesbrough. In 2002, Branca started working as scout for his former club Inter Milan. He discovered some talents like Lucio, Diego Milito, Wesley Sneijder, and Samuel Eto'o. In 2006, he was promoted to the sporting director role at Inter Milan and was part of their big treble in 2010. In 2012 he was fired.
